- We go across the country to pick up a beast that was developed and raced by the manufactures back in the day. It has an amazing history and will lead us to many more adventures. We also may just be addicted to Mopars now.. They have so much cool history.

I think it would be great to keep it as period as possible , you guys already know how to go fast with new stuff
My 2 cents, keep it period correct and take it to the nostalgia events. There getting bigger and bigger and I think the Belvedere would make a great competitor.
Even for the cackle fest it would draw a crowd
Yes keep it the same and show it. Perfect historical car . very rare find.
Beautiful piece of racing history. “It deserves to be raced”.
Yes that's what is was built for drag racing so now you can give it a new chapter Drag and drive it give it a new history that you can make it happen GODSPEED
Agree
Id keep it in a modest class though, I mean God forbid something happens but this car is virtually irreplaceable...
Just bracket race it from time to time. No street stuff. Keep it as-is. Beautiful. Great purchase
That's a piece of history that should be saved at all cost.. I know you will do it justice...
Please preserve the history as much as possible, it’ll never be what it is now. She is definitely a beautiful car
I am a GM guy , but I do appreciate Mopars and their rich history. Preserve that one and go to nostalgia events ,etc. You will have to start a museum of sorts soon. Thanks for being an all around enthusiast , and doing all you do for drag racing; Much appreciated.
Yes save this car the way it is. Fix it if you need to . rare historical find . Perfect the way it is.
Bill- Very few things in todays world are pure..This "Is one" - I would preserve and cherish for the future..
I’m a GM guy but, that is pretty cool. Mopar guys always seem a bit off so if you keep it you may get a bit goofy. 😂
Hahaha XD
Get a bit goofy? (that ship might have already sailed) 😂
"Get?"
Yeah, THAT train left the station a while back...
😂
Yeah, we're goofy, but also, faster.
@@PiDsPagePrototypes Faster to have to replace parts maybe. 😜
Your chat about the max wedge cars brought back a lot of memories. I bought a new Ply Fury 426 max wedge in 1963. Dick Landy tuned it to low 12s. Lots of street racing in Van Nuys and Long Beach. Tires were a factor back then. For quite a while all the rules would allow is a 7 inch wide. Everybody ran Casler tires....and they were recaps.
IF and thats a big IF you guys can make the original set up completely road reliable for a drag and drive event that would be your best bet! The content would be through the roof! Not only that, just the pure nostalgia of the car, and what it will do to the Value of it over time being able to continue to race that car, very few "Race cars" make it beyond 10-15 years.
Lovin the Mopar’s!
As for as the new ride? IMHO, Yes - it’s a historic race car - but it shouldn’t just sit & collect dust. Turning it into a fun Drag & Drive ripper (while respecting the history) would be an awesome next chapter for the ol Plymouth. Keep it a Hemi, update the safety as needed, & drive the snot out of it.
Maybe a vintage 60’s style paint job - a few performance upgrades (if needed) & then Right foot down & hang on !
Looking forward to seeing what’s next for the big bad Belvedere 😎 🏁
A/FX is the class Funnys Cars evolved from. The Southeast Gassers Association has a couple that do exhibition runs at their events. I would definitely use it as an exhibition car being a forerunner to the Funny Car. In some circles they are considered the original Funny Car due to the altered wheelbase and use of nitro. As the story goes someone saw one for the first time and said thats a funny car.
These A/FX cars and the front engine hemi fueler slingshots are what packed the stands in the mid sixties and made drag racing what it is today. These cars are the original " push it beyond the limit" rides. You now have both ends of that covered. I would run it like it is ( but on 10% of course!)
Thanks for showing us all this great American drag racing history and they are national treasures
That is fully sick. Keep it and race it as it is, very cool.
Agree
It’s about time someone done some early Mopar muscle stuff on UA-cam! Thanks Tom your the man. I’ve got a 65 Belvedere 😎
Cool find! Start a vintage no-tech class maybe? Like no computers, plug readers anonymous, no pushing a button for "street mode". Vin-tech NA-spec no-prep. Or something cool. :p
All those cars are super cool. The one you eventually bought is incredible. Wow, what presence it has.
Have not seen a Keith Black engine in a long time, cool find.
My second car was a 1954 Ford, and I put a 57 Thunderbird 312 in it. I raced it in Kissimmee, Fl and they mde me run A/FX. This was in the late 50s or early 60s. I live in Belleview, Fl. now same town as Big Daddy. He likes to call it Ocala.
This was an amazing look back into my "growing up days" introduction into drag racing! Thank you! PLEASE: Make it a Drive & Drag Car! Love to see it out racing! J
In high school, my friend Doug had a maroon 65 coronet with black rims and dog dish hubcaps !! 413 wedge cam headers, 950 holley 3 bbl , 4 speed bench seat !!! Posi and micky Thompson 😊😊😊😊😊 I miss the good old days!!
My uncle built a Belvedere drag car probably 20 years ago. They are such cool looking cars! Keep it as is.
I remember the first car, I have seen that car across the NE over the years. Really cool to see it. The second car is real nice as well.
I’m loving the way you are going back and sharing all the history of drag racing that would be an awesome drag and drive car if you can preserve the historical looks of it and make it dependable enough for the entire week.
Love to see historic racecars battling on, would just hate to see it chopped up and modified away from the way it has always run..... please dont let anyone chop up that irreplaceable mechanical injection system to convert it to efi. A big part of the "cool" of these old cars is that it takes a different type of skill to get them to run well, but when you get it right its SOOOOOO GOOD!!!!
Great car yes on drive and drag
What a find! Super cool to have even if you don't run it much. It would be a very special drag and drive car to!! I love it!
Love the Mopar content ! I've seen those cars run at Lebanon Valley Dragway, simply awesome ! I would probably do my best to preserve the car while running it the way it was intended. Enjoy your new purchase !! Mopar or No Car !
That’s a great car. Most definitely make it a drag and drive car. That will also be part of its history. Because it’s history isn’t over !
Great looking car and story - nostalgia events have this car written all over it. Thank you for bringing it back to Michigan.
AFX drag n drive nostalgia right there Tom. What a piece of history.
23:12 Hi Tom, mostly keep the history. But do so be getting it to a stage that it can do the drag and drive. It would be really cool if one of the team could drive it alongside of 2.0 and the box. Love the clips and all of the work you are doing. Cheers.
I'm not a Mopar guy, but that's a piece of history. Personally I wouldn't change a lot, but any changes should be reversible. Great find and story
Bobbys the only smart one to turn around and pause a little so we can see it. thanks Bobby.
Now that is a drag and drive car candidate …the pure nostalgia of that car going down the road is history…you may want to check into some big-time insurance ,not so much for your car but for everybody else, people are gonna end up crashing into trees rubbernecking to see what it was that just passed them going down the road. that is the bomb!
Absolutely a drag & drive! The nostalgia is worth sharing around the country.
Part of me would love to see it a drag and drive car but the other side wants it left alone
Keep as period as possible. Remember these as a teenager- 72. Now. Don’t change a dam thing.
I love the early Mopars! I had a pair of big block 65 Coronets in high school! I wish I still had them.
I remember racing at Detroit Dragway Back in the Early 70's. I had a 68 Dart 340 (Wished it was a Hemi) but could not afford it then
Keep the car stock and make it a Drag and drive.. We all drove our cars to the Drag strip and un-hooked our mufflers and raced back then. Be really cool to see one race again.
That car is awesome, drag and drive it. Show it off. Very nostalgic piece of history.
I would keep it just the way it is. That's a piece of nostalgia and racing history.
Great interview with knowledgeable men on each side of the conversation. Great questions and without hesitation Great answers = no BS
Great purchase, no matter what you decide to do with it, it'll be cool!
Love it!! Do whatever ever you want to it!! Love to see a big block from Steve in there😊
First things first..it'd be a crime if you missed the Detroit Dragway Reunion with this car..June 10th at Milan Dragway.
I ran a big block A-body at Detroit for a lotta years, would love to see this old beauty in person..
Long term? Drive the wheels off it! There's gotta be a nostalgia circuit that'd fit a lovely A/FX car like this..
Need a driver?
😁
looks like EJ has a car now. Would be a great addition to the fleet.
Yes, I agree.
Built one of these in 1991 down to the aluminum bumpers and extended torsion bars at my shop in Burleson Texas. Had a bit of trouble with getting the heat treat on the bars right. Broke multiple if I remember correctly. It was photographed by a Mopar rag with my shop in the background. I lost track of the magazine and car many years ago now. It was actually the product of a close friend who was a helicopter engineer by the name of Warren Webster.....
Absolutely give it a clear coat but preserve the original and add a lil sick second flair to it! Top notch drag and driver.
Definitely awesome! Yes make it a full drag and drive and race it everywhere you can!
Everything you guys do is truly insane……. But it’s a good insane…… sometimes it’s funny, serious, informative, outa this world and a lot of unbelievable stuff……in other words “Don’t change a DAMN THING”…… what works works…….kudos ……keep going fast but be safe……👍👍🤔🤔👏👏🇺🇸🏁…..
I’m a diehard MOPAR fan
Loved Friday night racing in the 70 des at Englishtown N.J Raceway park Thanks for sharing
Here`s my 2 cents, put an alternator in it and take it to old school races. I`m going to show my age here, I remember this car as a kid. Very cool car Tom with great history.
Crazy to hear beaver springs on these videos. I can listen to the drags from my house over the mountain!
I'm glad one of you that has a you tube is finally showing mopars. Ls is great. But there are other great engines and cars out there.
What an awesome score would love to see more of this !!
Not a Mopar Guy but love the history, would be proud to own any of them.
Bobby will love this car, can't wait to see it at drag and drive. What a great buy.
I wish I could have been around in that time to see these cars brand new.
That is soooo frecking cool!!! Keep it, race it and have fun with it!!!!!!!
Man, that is super cool!!!! Drag and drive events would be awesome!
Definitely not dumb for buying it. It's so rad!!!!!!😁👍👍👍
Nostalgia drags. all the Chrysler meets, Road Kill Nights, the local car shows. It would look awesome sitting next to the pizza trailer too.
As far as the video.
Would like to thank everyone evolved
Taking time out to show us a fine piece of great wonderful history.
Thank you.
Fantastic piece of history you really got to get it back racing.
You would of loved pats 57 wagon !!! It’s no slouch ! Obviously you seen the pics of it on the rear bumper !! But yes his daughter was heart broken when she heard he might trade ,, good choice pat ! Keep the wagon and we will start making vids of it for you tubes ! 😊
Preserve the history of the car, don’t change it!!
Agree.
Do what Cleetus McF. . .k would do, crash it for clicks !
@@bobroberts2371 Thats more of whistlindiesel thing.
@@bobroberts2371 name 1 time when Cleetus did anything even close to that...?..
@@Thunderstruck951 Scroll through his vid list and note the number of times there is some sort of failure / crash / incident. I'm judging what he would do based on vid thumbnails that come across my home page like:.
Fiero roll over
Boat crash
Blowing up multiple engines on purpose ( Like the ones from Texas Speed / the big block Steve Morris went over and SPECIFICALLY told him not to exceed X boost and he did anyway blowing it up.
RC jet plane crash
The circular demolition derbies he calls races.
I think be broke the tank thing.
Camaro burn out car crash
I'm betting he will crash the bush plane like Trevor Jacob did. . .
It’s a beautiful piece of history don’t change it much just enjoy it for what it is
It's perfect the way it is,,a good looking car & a piece of history.
When I had my Accident I was 29 years old. In 1993 . I got my NHRA LICENSE IN 2002 I Run my pro Mod 7.62@165 1/4 mile at MAR Dragstrip. I would love to drive that car. I had so many people come up to my car an look at me an say he has NO Legs. An I was making passes in the 7s. It was the best time of my life. I would love to make passes in that car. Be a dream come true!!! I own about 5 cars i raced. 70 AMX Was in Hot Rod Nov of 94. Had a Alter it made passes 5.0 1/8 mile. That is what I would love to do with that car. Race it on the Dragstrip.
No Drag and Drive . Nostalgia events! You got enough Drag and Drive stuff😂😂😂😂😂
Cool car and history. Nice job on the interview Tom always funny and fun.
So neat to hear him mention Beaver Springs Dragway several times. That is my local track.
My cousin had several of the great mopars of the 60s and early 70s. My uncle was the head sales guy for Steakley Bros Chevy in Tx from the 60s thru early 80s. He would buy the cars for my cousin as they would come in on the used lots in Dallas and Houston. He had a 440 six pack charger as well but lm not sure the year. He had a rare conv cuda' l believe was a 69'. Back then he would thrash them and sell em' and his dad would get him another because they didnt want mopars on the GM used car lots back in those days. And my uncle was a GM purist and hated them. Especially when they were 'plum crazy' colors. l got a 69' 390 AMX from him in 77' that was still like for 2,000 because he didnt want it on the lot either. He used to say it was a 'glorified Rambler car', the worst ever produced. Good memories.
Love watching you go down the fast Mopar wormhole, they are very addictive. Please keep that one true to its roots.
That FAST series is badass. Horsepower Depot runs a couple of badass Chevys.
Racing it and documenting even more of the car's history!
Tom, drag n drive absolutely!
That’s a sweet old Mopar looks like some nostalgia super stock racing in your future.
It's never dumb saving historical items. Sometimes not the best financial decisions but!!!!!!!!!!!. I'd like to see you drag and drive it. It has to be less work and cheaper to run than 2.0 and I think it would be a blast.
The 65 car is KILLER cool!!!!!!!!!!!!
SICK car, my neighbor has one with the candy stripes on the trunk, I will never forget the first time he started it, woke me up from acrossed the street, I was in the basement. He also came by to ask for help opening his trunk.... had to weigh 150 points.
Love this content. Keep up the great job. I just got a 69 p20 step van. Was going to try to get it going for this year sick week and join sick word. Going to need more than i can do for this time. I was hooked when i met you and a bunch of the drivers in Kissimmee fl at the marina. What a bunch of nice people. Hope to be able to help and drive with everyone soon.
Love mighty mopars. Great to see you appreciating Them.
Smartest decision ever made that thing is cool I remember that car from back in the day you need to keep that forever no matter what can make a driving drag car or just have fun with it not many altered wheelbases around for sale my buddy had one like that back and about 89 it was a replica but it was done well thanks for the great video I love old school it had a big block Chevy in it the Mopar kicks didn't like that but oh well
I drove the Parkway in New York on my way back from Florida in April , you are right everyone flys 70 80 mph in a 55 zone.
It was cool seeing the old Lion's sign above his doorway
OMG that is Bitchin the car deserves to be seen and raced absolutely love the car, so will everyone else two thumbs up on your purchase. Let EJ drive it. Love y’all
That frikin Roadrunner is SICK!
Great video Tom that's a sweet piece of history just run it as Bill did enjoy it. Thanks for sharing be safe have fun enjoy
Drag and drive would be way cool. More people would get to see and enjoy it doing something like that.
love the color, love the history.... pull it into your lineup somewhere. definitely will be loved.
My buddy had a 71 GTX 440-4spd with the Dana 60 rear end .... And man it was just plain bad ass 💯 🤙👊
Such a cool car. Tom your so refreshing to watch because most drivers are full of themselves. Your proof talent doesn't have to be that way , so refreshing & cool you are !
Love the new car . Best move buying history . And drag and drive please its great to see the old drag cars thats where all the factory racing were. Nothing like pure HP no turbocharger or blower . Just muscle.
DRAG and DRIVE by all means it deserves to be a runner!!
I suggest with the AFX to just put an efi version and run it like it is. Obviously fix it up so it can drive and not suffocate anyone. But other than that, fix the brakes, throw in new batteries, add a large fuel cell, put on an alternator, and go for a drive to Florida with some 315/20's on the rear.
Drag and drive car would be brilliant huge trunk. Great post as usual.
Damn , Excellent History lesson right there ! Thanks for Sharing !
Great vid. Awesome camera work. Interesting interviews. Thx. Love the Belvedere. Cant wait to c future vids with car.
Drag and drive would be awesome so more people can see it and learn about its history 👌
One cool ride keep it like it is for sure
