    Dude this is awesome. I completely despise how the original origin sounds, but with these mods it sounds killer, I might get one and do this. Great job and thank you.

    Bought on Friday an used origin 20 for 200£ and I did similar mods to yours. I started with a kind of 800 inspired preamp, but I ended up with something quite similar to you setup after some modifications(I just left a 4.7n as first coupling cap as it sounds a little bit beefier to me and i didn't put the 470pf on the CF. I had instead lowered the CF resistor to 70k circa putting a 220k resistor in // to the 100 original one) I have then added an asymmetric 24V/18V diode clipping (I liked just a little effect, I am not a huge fan of hard clipping, it sounds too much like a pedal otherwise). I have also added another 0.68u cap on the second stage on the top of the 2.7k resistor. Quite impressed with the result!
    Important to mention that the PCB are "crap" and the chance of ruining some pad is high. I consider myself "skilled" and also like that I was able to ruin 2 pads (luckily of unused components).
    Thank you Jason for all your nice videos!

    I bought an Orgin 50, just bought a Bugera Power Soak and can now drive my master around 7-8. Gain set at 7 gets me AC/DC tones. Boast engaged and a boss super OD gets me in the 800 zone.
    Do you think your mode would still improve what I’m able to get with the power soak??

  • @Johnsormani
    @Johnsormani 7 місяців тому

    I’m not too fond of clipping diodes to be honest. It’s more like an onmodieuze switch and doesn’t react naturally to rolling back the volume. I’m get closer to my ideal sound with a soldano-like approach . I’m currently implementing this on a 1971 London city plexi clone . Added an extra tube, for a lead and crunch channel setup. I’ve changed some bypass caps to get less fizz and I’m tweaking the crunch channel to get more into plexi /JMP territory. I also put a fat switch on a dual bypass cap on the last stage before the cathode follower which gives it some extra flavors

    Great sounds. After HF mods, does the two pedal foot switch still work to do anything? I'm guessing that it would still swap the push pull on the bright (which would now control clipping)??? And, if a solid state loop is installed, will the other pedal control it? LOL... or does it turn off a gain stage???

    • @HeadfirstAmps
      @HeadfirstAmps  3 місяці тому +1

      The boost switch will still work, as a gain boost (but reversed). Loop switch won’t work, it could be repurposed for something but that’s outside the scope of this mod!

    i have the origin 50h and the gain sounds spitty i guess you would call it that. when on the neck pickup or with more bass with the gain turned up if you play a chord and let it ring out thats when it gets spitty or sounds like something is touching the speaker as the sound starts dying off. the cheap dark matter pedal i use to have did exactly the same thing. my bb preamp at pedal does not do this and sounds great. did your amp do this when it was stock?

    • @HeadfirstAmps

      You can't do this with a pedal, it's all about sequencing of the gain structure. Carvin's implementation is very different, much earlier in the pre-aamp, and sounds very buzzy by comparison.
