    I did this when I was 11 years old back in 1982 lol. Ancient snowmobile, two long thick bolts, my ancient mini bike wheels and an arc welder lol. I put the bolts through the wheels and welded them to the stubs where the springs attached on the sled. It had boogies so there were no sliders to overheat. Tons of fun in the summer and I got a LOT of looks driving it down the roads lol. Thanks for bringing that memory back to me.

    My brother has a 1972 arctic cat lynx wearing the hood from a 73? Cheetah with a full wheel kit. It was an original, period correct after market which my uncle bought nos from the dealer for one of his arctic cat sleds back in 1980, and has had on one sled or another ever since. It's just such a cool machine! I have a lot of memories of riding it when I was a young teen. And its fast! With a rebuilt rupp pro 440 engine it will do about 130kmh and whips donuts like you wouldn't believe. The biggest problem is, being that it has no real suspension, they'll will tear over time with the kind of abuse this thing takes. This is why the kit has probably been on at least 20 sleds over the years.

  • @JayJay-de8vq
    @JayJay-de8vq 5 років тому +1

    No doubt your dad has been on them older sleds before or back in the day. You can see how he leans into the turns like he was and that was how you cornered on the old skinny sleds! That is awesome!

      At a minibike drag race in ubly michigan last August i met 2 good ole boys from ohio who both had doodlebug frames and each had air cooled classic sled engines on them. Both bikes were ugly yet beautiful in their execution. The trick is to keep the clutch for the engine and make it fit and dont lean it in the turns. Such a machine is designed for drag race bullet applications only

  • @MikeSmith-rx4uu
    @MikeSmith-rx4uu 5 років тому

    I built one of these back in the 90's out of an old ski-doo. One thing you should do is add a dripper system to drip a solution of dish soap and water onto the sliders in the suspension. (Usually snow keeps them lubricated) it will attract dirt obviously, but it GREATLY reduces the drag on the track and the sliders don't wear as fast. Ice racers use this also when lake racing.

  • @999benhonda
    @999benhonda 5 років тому +1

    "Choke is like nos"...then it is running lean! Though I had assumed for it to ru well in the warm weather he would have had to put in smaller jets. If the jets are stock, then the carbs may have an issue because in winter a warmed up sled should bog down with the choke on, not run better.

    • @999benhonda
      @999benhonda 5 років тому

      Just figured it out....he removed the stock airbox and put on cone filters. That is allowing more air, leaning out the mixture even more than needed to run in warm weather. Probably needs larger main jets without the airbox.
