@@dansearle7024 Another guy flew it with a water hose spraying directly on the drone for a long time. Continued working until he landed it. Obviously, you shouldn't fly it in the rain, but it's a lot more resilient than I expected.
Flying backwards will get you in trouble too. That's pretty amazing that the cam is still working under water! I crashed my Mini 2 in the water one time (it hit a twig and went down into the creek) Submerged in in rice for 5 ays and it worked like new.
Sorry you crashed. As you found out, taking your focus off your drone for even a second can cost you. Don’t feel too bad, I smashed a $7000 DJI inspire two into the side of a skyscraper. This happened the day I got the drone back from being repaired. 😊I cried for a long time.
I just got my DJI mini 4 pro. The image is so amazingly sharp and colorful. Baby steps for me too! I played with a few of those garbage E88 toy drones, so I have some idea of what to do,
Not cool... We all make mistakes, we need to learn from them. I thought it was a great flight until the end of course. One thing I Don't do is fly sideways near trees. I do when at the ocean, other than that, I better be higher than the tallest object around. I'm not going to beat you down because of a mistake. We all do. Dji coats the boards with a water proof sealant. You can actually fly them in the rain. Its not recommended but can be done without hurting the drone. My guess is he recovered the drone and it still works.

It’s a year later but your video is still good information for me, a newer pilot of a Mini 4 Pro. I’m sorry that happened to you, and I’m quite surprised the camera continued to function that long submerged. Obviously you recovered the drone since you had video to share.

Hey bud, sorry for your loss. That's the worry when flying sideways. I dove my Mavic Mini-1 twice in fresh water. I immediately took it inside and stuck a hair dryer up it's butt for an hour. I then put in a fresh battery and flew like nothing happened. Thanks for sharing!
Wife and kids coming to see daddy fly but .. drone is gone scuba diving. I hope you got dji refresh package. Also in the near future that you got a new drone , kindly fidget with the settings on the controls .... get a smoother set of settings on the sticks and movement and then your panning or side moves would be smoother and slower depending on the shot you wanna have. Map out your area to fly so at least you may be aware of the possibilities....
Would the mini 3 pro have avoided this? I understand that it doesn't have horizontal sensor detection, but would the peripheral version of the sensors have picked up the branches and stopped?
The mini 3 (pro) has no sideways sensors so it will not pick this up. The Mavic 3 (now called "classic") has 360 degree sensors, but still has trouble picking up those thin branches so it might crash just as well.
If you have the REFRESH you can file using the flyaway. You’ll get a replacement within a week. The charge will be a small amount because DJI isn’t getting a drone back I’ve done it a few times before with no problem
Not necessarily; I have refresh- used it once for a crash and they sent me a new drone, no charge. Then, I crashed it into the river filming kayakers, they wanted me to file a flyaway so I did. That one cost me 500 bucks.

Flying sideways will get you every time, same thing happened to me a couple of months ago but luckily landed upside down in the grass and only broke two props .

Looked shallow… Did you locate it and fetch it out? I crashed mine in a river last month (flew without GPS signal and the wind bopped it laterally into a branch… that’s my story anyway 😉)… it was submerged for 5 minutes and I was able to get it working again just fine after a week of heaters, fans, silica gel packs, and waiting.
Obviously the drone was retieved, otherwise there would be no video to share. No worries with your drone being submerged for 5 minutes. I've experienced drones being submerged in mucky river water over night and then flying and filming perfectly after rinsing off and 2 days of drying out.

This is one of my worst fears flying drones, what a shame. By the way i would watch out with the description of this video. I have heard of channels receiving strikes from youtube because of something called "keyword stuffing" which is where you put a bunch of search terms in the description. it does seem like a good idea but for some reason yt don't like it which is quite annoying so just a heads up

You are right, the DJI Mini 3 doesn´t have any avoid obstacle sensors but downwards. The Mini 3 Pro has forward, aft and downward sensors (they may detect obstacles up on some angles tho), but not side sensors. To have 360º protection youn need to upgrade to the Mavic 3 series. On many models sensors are off when flying in Sport Mode, so ir really doesn´t matter...
This is a great example of why you always have your drone in line of sight at all times, especially if your drone doesn’t have the necessary optical avoidance sensor capabilities to keep it from running into obstacles.
I've had this happen los. The depth of field isn't great at distance when the drone is facing you and especially when tree branches are bare (ghost branch).. A foot here and there can ground ya. Say'n. Thanks for posting OP.
Did you not know that if you operate any DJI drone above water that water is MAGNETIC to DJI drones, they instantly become attracted to it, either directly or by the other thing that attracts them trees!
On similar case scenarios, a Mini 4 PRO will save many drone pilots from a tragic loss like this. Thank you for sharing this as well as for the incredible capability of this tiny peace of advanced technology to survive underwater.
Side sensors aren't totally reliable. In fact no camera based OA is full proof. Small objects like twigs and wires are easily missed. Go ahead and by what ever drone you can afford WITH 2 years of DJI Care! It's the best $200 you'll ever spend.
From all drone crashes I’ve seen 99 % of crashes are from not paying attention to surroundings and what you can’t see because you didn’t check out first before just getting shots
You can fly sideways no worries with that, but you should know your route ... the obstacles around your path and if possible fly with a line of sight .. I guess he got glued onto the scenery that the drone was taking and likely forgot to observe his environment as the mini 3 got no side sensors ...
You were getting a great shot, you were in a really good place. The side sensors would make the mini 3 pro a perfect drone! I hope you did the dji care refresh for your mini 3 pro 😅
You won’t get a new one, maybe a discount. You were flying sideways, that isn’t covered even if you’re flying sideways just a little bit (I discovered the hard way)

This is old video but us drone pilots watch old stuff alot lol. I know you cried I also know your heart popped out your chest. We all have a crash story! I have three heart replacements dealing with drones lmao 🤣. With my Autel Evo Lite plus I refuse to take chance now. Nope! I learned my lesson with the first three drone before spending the money on a real good one.
I’m surprised it kept recording under water. Shit happens and we all make mistakes. Sometimes they are costly mistakes but lessons learned. The point of it all is to have fun with this hobby and be as careful as you can. Mishaps happen so make the most of each moment and make it count.

The mini 3 doesn't have obstacle avoidance. Only the mini 3 pro
No obstacle avoidance in sport mode.
Not to mention that this was sideways flight. Only Mini 4 Pro has omnidirectional obstacle avoidance. M3P only has forward/backwards.
