The whole reason why they chose "Hard" for their title track is because they wanted to show everyone that SHINee can do any genre, including hip-hop. They killed this. This will definitely be a contender for album of the year. SHINee performed "Hard" and "Juice" at their SHINee World Concert VI (SWC6) in Seoul last week, so anyone who was lucky enough to attend one of the 3 days of the concert, or anyone who has watched the fancam footage, got an advance preview of the songs. Plus, if you happened to watch Taemin and his manager Nam Eui Soo on The Manager reality show this past weekend, we got to see SHINee in the dance studio practicing the choreography for "Hard." They have already been getting great reviews for the song and album, so I think the reception has been amazing. One thing you need to know about SHINee is that if they release something that is more of a chill song with a happy bright theme like "The Feeling" first, that their follow up track almost always will be the complete opposite, such as you heard with "Hard." And vise versa. That's how they have been structured since debut. They never have the same style or sound in any of their songs, even on the same album, and yet when their album is put together it has a very cohesive SHINee feel to it. The fact that it's nothing like anyone expects and different than anything out there, is exactly what makes "Hard" a SHINee song. As SM's experimental group, nothing SHINee will ever do is like anything they have ever done before, and it won't be like anything they ever do in the future, but it will somehow always have that SHINee feel. The ONLY think you can expect when it comes to SHINee is that it will be amazing and groundbreaking with vocals that are unmatched. Notice how Key was singing through his clenched teeth in the last part of that song when they were all dressed in black. And he still sounded perfect while giving off the "Hard" vibes that the song required. Just one of the many unique elements of this song that only SHINee can pull off. This is actually just SHINee going back to their roots. LOL As you may know, before debut SHINee was actually training to be a hip-hop group. However, as Key tells it, SHINee just doesn't have the swag to pull off hip-hop full time, so last minute SM decided to change up their style to the contemporary R&B style of "Replay" that they have now become known for. "Hard" just proves that in the end, SM wasn't wrong and SHINee has no problem in the world of hip-hop, but their destiny and calling was to be a group that never ties themselves down to just one style or genre. They were meant to show the world that they can be diverse and unique and never do the same thing twice. With every release that SHINee has they are expected to flip the script and change things up in the Kpop industry. That's why when SHINee makes a comeback everyone pays attention because they are looking to SHINee to show them what the industry's next song style and dance trend will be. It is actually said that within 3 months of SHINee making a comeback that you will see that same sound and dance style being duplicated across the industry with every comeback to follow for both boy groups ad girl groups. When SHINee does something the industry takes note and follows suit. I'm pretty sure that the whole "Hard" MV storyline is connected to SM's SM Culture Universe. The more I watch it, the more I see that seems to indicate that it's all connected. I haven't had a whole lot of time to really analyze everything, but what I see right off the bat is, that when we first see Taemin, when he appears in the black sleeveless suit, he looks just like he did in his SuperM debut teasers. I also think that it even could be connected to Taemin's "Advice" storyline. We see him with his hands painted blue in "Hard," similar to his black painted hands and body in "Advice," and in both scenes we see him standing in front of/playing a piano. Some have pointed out that the scene with the silhouettes behind the screen reminds them of the scene in Taemin's "Criminal" MV, with the people behind a screen pushing their hands into it. However, in "Hard" Taemin is standing in front of the screen, rather than walking through the middle with the two sides reaching for him like in "Criminal". Although, I also think that scene could be connected to EXO's storyline, because we see in EXO's "Tempo" MV a scene where there are silhouettes behind a lighted white wall that looks very similar to this. In EXO's storyline, the people behind the wall are thought to be EXO's alter ego clones who were created by the Red Force or they could be the EXO members who are trapped behind the wall. We also see EXO fighting with their silhouette shadows in their live concert performance of their song "Wolf," which is also thought to be EXO battling X-EXO as they search for the Tree of Life. Ever since SHINee came out with "Don't Call Me," I think that storyline was supposed to be SM bringing SHINee into the SM Culture Universe. In their "Don't Call Me" MV it looks as though the SHINee members go through some sort of wormhole as they are teleported somewhere and we see them all posing in their black outfits like they are getting ready for battle. This looks very similar to the scene in SuperM's debut "Jopping" MV when the SuperM members are coming together at the beginning of "Jopping." Therefore, because Taemin is a member of SuperM, I think SHINee is supposed to be getting ready to join SuperM in the fight against the Red Force. In "Hard" we also see Taemin standing on a grate as he crouches down and looks through it at the "people" in white trapped below, similar to his scene in SuperM's "Jopping" MV. I also see the scene with Key standing with all the dancers in white sitting around him as an important part of the story as well, however I'm not sure what it all means yet. We see Key remove the mask of one of the guys and we discover the guy has a glowing blue earpiece, which seems to be suggesting that they are being controlled by outside forces. However, because they are all just sitting there without moving, it seems to indicate that they are currently "shut-down". Either these people are androids or robots, like in EXO's "Lucky One" MV, or they are people who are under mind control. Although, I don't think they are being controlled by the Red Force necessarily because we don't see any trace of red anywhere in that scene. Instead, the color we see is blue, which usually within EXO's storyline means that it represents something to do with EXO, who are the good guys. Plus, blue with SHINee MVs usually represents SHINee and their connection as a group. Minho standing on the edge of that rock formation looks similar to the scene with Key standing on the rock in the middle of the ocean in Key's solo "Hate That ..." MV, and it also looks a lot like the scene in SHINee's "Don't Call Me" MV, with Key standing on the submerged phone booth. It all has the same feeling. (Notice how they also are all wearing red in all of those scenes.) In the last scene at the end it reminds me of the same menacing red atmosphere as Minho's rap section in "Don't Call Me", where we see him in the all red room with the chairs hovering above him. Therefore, I think the gloved hand is Minho's hand because it looks like the same gloves that Minho is wearing in the scene right before that where they are dressed in black. Although I don't know what that means yet, I am sure it is something to connect the storyline to something within one of SM's MVs in the future or will make more scenes when more of the story is revealed as SM releases the next chapter, etc.
@@pvng1830 Yes, I think its supposed to symbolize their relationship with music. As we see when it turns into the animated scene in the beginning, Taemin gets pulled into the piano. The set with the brown walls looks like the inside of a piano with the wooden hammers that create the sound when the keys are played on the walls behind them. And the lighted white screen is divided like the white keys of the piano with the people's silhouettes representing the black keys, etc. This could represent how music is what controls their lives and its what has trapped them in this world as artists. Which could be similar to the themes within Taemin's Never Gonna Dance Again album trilogy -- "2 Kids", "Criminal" and "Idea" -- and his epilogue "Advice."
SHINee demonstrating how versatile they are, that they are not afraid to try different styles with the stamp that only they give to their songs, making it clear that no style is too big for them. SHINee is back and in a big way. The entire album is a gem. SHINee forever five 💎💎💎💎💎
Shinee was born to be a Hip Hop group, but they had so much vocal talent that they decided to make shinee the experimental group of SM and with them they deal with all genres. Being completely great in all of them
I love that SHINee keeps re-inventing themselves to the trends in music, but they also add that extra twist that make it unique. I love SHINee -- so glad they are back.
SHINee puts their signature on every style. They came back and did that maximalist 4th gen sound with Don't Call Me. And Now SHINee does an Anti-Drop while still showcasing powerhouse vocals with Hard. What can't they do?
SHINee are Kings of the unexpected!! I think you're also going to love Juice and quite frankly, the rest of the album, too. THank you so much for your reaction!! ETA: There's a reason why Kenzie is Queen!! And Dem Jointz did Juice as well.
Some people will say "this song is not like SHINee" but I disagree. Because the concept and style of SHINee is "experimental" itself. They always bring out new things. This song has the vibe of hip-hop in Korea in the 90s, they are coming back to the old things in the new generation. They don't care about trends at all. They just do what they want. We are so proud of them.Thank you for liking it.😍And hope ONEW take a good rest and come back healthy.Let us wait for him patiently.
I'm so glad to see you guys appreciate this because it's been kind of a controversial release! The rest of the album is fantastic too, looking forward to the listening party!!
Shinee is the only kpop groupe who really try different style and type of music, they really are so versatile. But in every single style they always keep their Shinee touch, you can still feel it's Shinee. Maybe cause of their vocals who're so special, they've such a particular & Unique tone of voice, that no other kpop groupe have, who make the Shinee signature. 😊
THE ARE KPOP. Everything that defines Kpop, the unexpected, the colorfulness, the playfulness, the vocals!! EVERYTHING! THE KINGS OF VOCAL, PERFORMANCE AND MUSIC QUALITY ARE BACK !!!
They always show a different version of themselves with this unique essence and what I love, they evolve with their music. I love rap and melody and the bridge is divine.
Great reaction guys!!! You are amazing, thank you so much!!! I particularly loved this cb!!! Some people are saying it doesn't sound like a SHINee song but I fervently disagree because there's nothing more like SHINee than coming back with a completely different sound than usual!! The album is amazing, please post your reaction here on yt!!! Finally, SHINee NEVER DISAPPOINTS!
Hey! Thanks for reacting to my ultimate boys. Booooy, you on the right are coming for me and my Onew supremacy. Thanks for you reacting to my Shawol bops. Drips are fire! 'Thank you!
I'm glad y'all liked it :) I was unsure about it at first, but it has definitely grown on me! As someone who ults both SHINee and NCT, I don't think this sounds like an NCT song. It has so many elements of what I would normally expect from SHINee. Beat switches didn't start with NCT and the experimental sound didn't either. If you listen to older SHINee albums, especially the "Lucifer" album, you would know this isn't anything new for them. They just didn't chose hip hop focused songs as their title tracks. Ofc it's ppl's opinion if they don't like it, but I wish ppl would stop saying "Hard" sounds like an NCT song.
Ikr, sound nothing like NCT, even the old school Ay yo. This is a different type of old school hip hop. Idk why ppl said it sound like NCT, and lost SHINee's style when SHINee doesnt really have a specific style, they always come back with different genre, vibe.
The more I watch SHINee, the more I miss Jonghyun. He would have killed all these CBs. A SHINee Bridge without his vocals almost feels empty. Taken too soon. R.I.P King 👑
Onew bringing it and he ain’t even around for the promotions (get well soon 😭). Also…when y’all hear Juice????? Yeah I’ll just let y’all do the listening party and see for yourselves😭 Shinee continues to take it 15 years into the game. Some folks didn’t like the fact that this type of song was their anniversary song. But to me, it proves (once again) just how versatile they are. They genre-fluid!!!
Yawl should know SHINee by now.😂😂..Expect the unexpected...the only thing you know happening for a new SHINee comeback is it's gonna be fire..... The whole album is lit btw.
You guys were a blast! Kudos to the 2 plays of the mv with sound! Shinee didn’t disappoint and I love their choice to do hip hop. The rest of the album is great too. My faves are Sweet Misery and Like It. PS: Can someone please explain the beef and broccoli reference.
The more I watch this video I’m reminded of Missy Elliot back in the day. Her videos made everyone go WHAT, but she’s a damn legend. At first I was confused, but now I get it. Amazing. 💎💎💎💎💎 as expected.
I was waiting for y’all the whole album has something for everyone it is so good I 🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵 I guess you guys didn’t get a chance to watch the concert on Beyond LIVE. It was amazing. They did amazing those three men held it down. Such a great job.🩵🩵🔥🔥🔥 can’t wait for the replay in August
Hard was Kenzie while Dem Jointz did Juice. They also had a fan co-write one of their songs "Gravity". Shinee can use the word Hard the best way possible! I can't wait for the album listening, it's a whole BOP AND A HALF! SHINEE'S BACK!
❤❤❤❤❤......that shorts outfit that key has on looks like what the singer from ACDC used to wear back in the day..I shit you not!!. 😂😂😂😂😂😂...yeah my age is showing..lol...😊
I'm so happy to see people enjoy "Hard" because I love SHINee but it's not my favourite to be honest. It reminds me of NCT songs and don't love their sound... But I really wanna love it! 😭 Onews voice is gorgeous as always tho. Loving Sweet misery, insomnia and identity and the feeling is growing on me, fast haha.
I really enjoyed and loved this comeback. The styling the vibe and the visuals were amazing! Just my opinion Hard sounds more like an NCT127 track but they still killed it.
During SHINee's enlistments, I would listen to NCT and think some of their songs sounded like they could be SHINee songs. And now with Hard, I could imagine NCT doing this song. Kenzie produces for both of them so she's probably a big factor in why the sound feels so familiar.
Shinee never miss ❤❤❤❤

SHINee forever five 💎💎💎💎💎
Shinee can do everything ✨❤😭
Their drip so HARD, and their music and voices too. Everyone's appreciation of Onew's voice makes me so happy too. God bless you all.
This comeback is totally a statement of "SHINee ain't going to go down anytime soon!"

SHINee are the kings of experimentation and they never disappoint
They always show a different version of themselves with this unique essence and what I love, they evolve with their music.
I love rap and melody and the bridge is divine.
i have a prediction that this will end up on the banned songs during testing. i'm having hardcore flashbacks to my youth with this vibe.
Onew needs to be banned for that drip. Man was not playing.
SHINee just shows that veterans can still bring it! Now are they taking it to the streets or the skreets? 'Cause they were on that line, ya'll.
I love this song HARD, and all the album. Very SHINee's move. Maybe they will comeback with rock next year
I love it and it’s not my preferred genre or feel but every SHINee song sounds like SHINee and lets me experience a new facet of them 💎
I love how they respectfully played homage to 90s hip hop

Extraordinary❤
I see SHINee I click HARD
I'm happy they went back to their old b-sides style. They're so good at everything they release❤
Shinee loves Mark too. 😂😅
5HINee is the different level. THE LEGEND
SHINee’s Back
dem jointz did “juice”-a b-side but supposedly title track chosen by sm. shinee fought for “hard” instead
i love that you like them so much :) and especially onew because he cannot participate in the cb since he is ill.
❤❤❤❤❤......that shorts outfit that key has on looks like what the singer from ACDC used to wear back in the day..I shit you not!!. 😂😂😂😂😂😂...yeah my age is showing..lol...😊
You fellas are funny. Thank you.
i love your reaction thank you
I enjoyed this so much
I'm so happy to see people enjoy "Hard" because I love SHINee but it's not my favourite to be honest. It reminds me of NCT songs and don't love their sound... But I really wanna love it! 😭 Onews voice is gorgeous as always tho. Loving Sweet misery, insomnia and identity and the feeling is growing on me, fast haha.
HARD
They look so good is way different than they yours to see them
8turn comeback is SO GOOD
Girl this SHINee ok so bye bye
SHINee príncipes do Kpop 💎
HARD lembra as músicas antigas deles. Muito feliz pelos 15 anos deles. Amo 😍
the mixing was really done well too!
If you want some Jazzy Funk on this album, go for 10X ^^
I hope Onew is getting better… he hasn’t been feeling well…😢💕
I really enjoyed and loved this comeback.
Son tremendos vocalistas éstos chicos por Dios 😊😊
