- Kate Nelligan and John Goodman present the award for Best Performance By an Actress in a Motion Picture: Musical or Comedy to Bette Midler for her work on "For the Boys".
For the Boys is so underrated....it's a wonderful movie and the soundtrack is fantastic.
The main theme "Every Road Leads Back To You" written by Diane Warren should have gotten a best song nomination. At least Bette scored an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for "For The Boys".
@@larrycj4382 I did not know Diane Warren wrote it, nice to know.
@@larrycj4382 I love the song
@@alicehenderson7983 So do I! 😸
@@larrycj4382 of course everything she sings I love, she just puts more into her songs.
A great movie that went unnoticed by the American public and thankfully acknowleged by her peers. A time piece that travels through many wars with a poignant message. The soundtrack also travels through those times with great success. One of my favorite soundtracks.
Never understood why this film didn't do better,I love it.
@@albaum4370 yes me too, it is a great movie, her acting is the best I have ever seen, people don't realize she is the best actress we have, I totally enjoy her movies, probably because her movies make you feel the emotions she pours her heart out.
It's 2016, Ms. Midler, and people are still watching your films and listening to your music, darling. There's a teen in the house who knows of you and can recognize your voice, and has seen you on screen. :) Bless you.
She was born to play in that movie. She was brilliant
Brilliant in The Rose, too! She should have won the Academy Award that year!
When Bette's husband saw her made up to look older for later in the film, he said: "I'm looking forward to growing old with you."
When I was a little girl I saw Ms. Midler at a restaurant in Dallas Texas but I was too afraid to speak to her. Then when I was 18 I finally met The Devine Miss M. I had 8 long years of regret for not speaking the first time and it wasn't slipping through my fingers that time so I spoke to her. Ms. Midler was so gracious, so beautiful, and so glamorous. Truly the nicest celebrity (besides B.B. King) I have ever met and I've met quite a few now at age 45. Ms. Midler has always been my 2nd favorite actress after Bette Davis. I hope to meet her again one day but I doubt lightening will strike a third time but you never know. But at least when I'm old and drinking my dinner through a straw I won't regret not speaking to one of the most talented actresses known to man.
Bette it's 2023 and I still watch your movies and listen to your music ❤
Michelle Pfeiffer is a classical painting! She's so pretty!
Jaw dropping 😳
aww that's such a beautiful compliment.
Said no one ever
She’s the best actress that’s never won an Oscar
she ripped off deborah harry and she's a LA airhead. but yeah, pretty.
For the Boys is such a piece of art and I love this speech. Bette is so human in a world full of fakers…Bette ❤ forever
I LOVED For The Boys. Still do! I have it on dvd!
Bette The Queen of all things Midler!!! The DEVINE MISS M!!! She looks AMAZING here!!
❤❤❤❤❤
Deserved award....I loved the movie!
For the boys is my favorite movie of all time. As i was 12 years old begging my older brother to not change the channel because of Bette, he was furious but said oki. And i got to watch the movie then later bougth on amazon with some other oldies from her.
I loved For the Boys. Saw it in the theater. I remembered it being popular and the soundtrack was flying out the door. Tough category with all those actresses that are now considered legendary and iconic today. And Michelle Pfeiffer, wow, absolutely stunning.
I saw "For The Boys" several times in theaters! Well deserved Bette!
"For the Boys" deserved a better response than it got.
God, I love Bette Midler
Michelle Pfeiffer is so damn gorgeous 😍
They all are🤓
Everyone so young here
I miss those days
I'm so happy for her. She deserved it - and would have deserved much more. She's a treasure. ❤
I love Bette! ❤
I loved "For the Boys." I never understood why it didn't go better. I, personally, think that it was The Divine Miss M's best work and James Caan was truly marvelous.
I loved it too, but at this point, Bette Midler was not the box office draw she was during her amazing run between _Down and Out in Beverly Hills_ all the way to _Beaches_ . A lot of people forget that she was, at one point, one of Hollywood's top female box office attractions.
Unforgiven had a cast of Hollywood male A-listers. It was veterans year for the Oscars.
@@t.e.burgos3263 People have short memories. And Hollywood seems so eager to move on to the "next big star."
The makeup.. The makeup..
@@michiganjfrog366 LOL. I remember when she promoted this movie on Oprah, and Oprah went ON AND ON about how amazing the makeup was. Meanwhile, I read a review at the time that said Bette and James Caan looked like burn victims in the last scene...
I’m going to watch this! Thanks for the upload, YT!
True Pro...Awesome singer and actress....one of the greatest....!!!!
God Bless all the Army & Bette 🙏
I love that Bette was nervous, it came from the heart, she is a ball breaker, but goddamn she can break my balls any day......I honestly think of all the projects Ms. Midler has worked on, this was the closest to her heart. Although I haven't seen it, I could see her in New York, New York with Robert De Niro.
Robert Baldwin, please get the movie & watch it, I loved it, yes she is great in it,
What a great list of nominees! And wow Michelle looked so gorgeous
She got it all together but boy was she nervous. I liked "For the Boys".
I'm glad she got this award! You got Bette!! Love how emotional she got when she just realized it mid-speech she's accepting Best Actress! She's in a great league of actresses!!
*😈?Why does Anjelica Huston álways look like she´d lOve to kIll the person who´s won🤣😂*
Just adore BETTE!
An amazingly underappreciated film. At least the Gloves appreciated Bette's performance! Thanks for posting this!
The Gloves
A Really Great Movie 🤗👍
Totally agree with you. I also have this movie in the DVD collection 😀
GORGEOUS!!!! That shot was EPIC!
LOVED, LOVED THAT MOVIE. JUST A FANTASTIC! ❤ you Better!
I love her so much!
She looks great
and
she is great😊😊😊
Great film - still love it!
For the boys is truly one of the best movies i have ever seen and i watch a lot of them! Bette should have got the oscar for that movie truly! Her best performance ever!
First time seeing this clip. True, an underrated film - for many reasons. One of Bette's best acting roles, and, VERY close to her heart. Watching the nominees, the talent and natural beauty from the women in that day - classic and true. Today's shlock can't find those women's shadows.
I love Bette Midler so much
Big fan of Bette's from her first appearance (wow) on Johnny Carson show. Was blessed that I got to see her in concert-- -with good seats !! lol Extraordinary talent, wit and character !! Never be another like her !!
Bette always honest and always amazing. Love her
I love Bette Middler..... she's amazingly talented.
Brilliant film love my mum an dad to .love Bette. ❤
A great movie.
I loved For the Boys!!!
fascinating and fabulous life!
Great and deep movie
There is no better entertainer than Bette. Unique and all her own.
I’m surprised it’s not played more at Christmas time. He has a great holiday scene.
Favourite film, and it is so underrated.....
It. Won. Oscars. How is it underrated, you utter cretin?
Soundtrack is awesome too!
when she starts to cry.....do you think it just hit her "SHIT i just won"
Armond Nero, yes I think it hit her and then then she couldn't stop tearing, she gets overwhelmed when people like her movies & her singing, most women are like that,
No, I think the poor public/critical response to the film hit her hard. It's tough seeing her crack particularly as we're so used to seeing her laugh.
A woman with alot of class, and a great actress and singer.
Incredible Woman.,.¡¡¡
I love divine Miss M💙
One of my favorite movies of all time.
We just loved for the boys. Music and acting was fab !!!
That hair style Ms. Midler is wearing here - Was her BEST look EVER. It’s SO flattering.
Ditch the fads, Bette. Just keep this one.
I love this movie ❤
as another poster has mentioned. she defn deserved the oscar. just realized now she won the GG for "for the boys"
For the boys is the best movie she ever did.
All the actresses nominated were in movies that, in my opinion, have been greatly underrated and almost forgotten. _Switch, For The Boys, The Addams Family, Fried Green Tomatoes_ , and the criminally underappreciated _Frankie & Johnny_ ...what a wonderful collection of films that not a whole lot of people remember. And yes, I know that both _Fried Green Tomatoes_ and _The Addams Family_ were box office hits, but do people ever talk about them anymore? So sad.
Maybe they'll go on a streaming service and people can see it. SO many movies, but those do stand out !
"The Adams Family" and its sequel "Adams Family Values" are frequently shown on US cable channel Freeform during its "31 Days of Halloween" each October, along with Bette's own "Hocus Pocus".
I saw all of these movies and all of these actresses deserved the nomination. I am glad Bette won. Her performance was outstanding.
I don't know Switch and The Addams Family, but I agree completly for Fried Green Tomatoes and the criminally underappreciated Frankie & Johnny. Unfortunately I don't know For The Boys, but I am sure that is more than worth, because in my opinion Bette Midler is a great artist
Legend!!
It was a great movie, it certainly deserved to win...and Bette Midler is amazing.
I loved this movie
Bette Midler is a treasure! Amazing talent and wit! Love her!
Holy fucking shit how beautiful did Michelle Pfeiffer look?
Bette is beautiful
What a perfect makeup for 1992
If you haven't seen this movie... You should. It is a diamond in the ruff.
Bette Midler te amo. 🥰💐🌹🇧🇷
Loved For the Boys. One of her best. And wow she beat Kathy Bates.
The type of crying you do when you have worked so hard for something!
Oh I loved For the Boys. I never realised she got an award for it, I thought it was one of those unappreciated beauties.
Omg michelle was looking dam radiant
Because there such good actors I just can’t take the tears seriously
Bette's tears are real, she is very kind hearted & sentimental, I watch her interviews & a few of them she gets emotional, & cries, it is real, believe me.
Kathy Bates looks gorgeous
"I'll get you ....Midler!"
mICHELLE: bEAUTIFUL WITHOUT EVEN TRYING
My god, I just thought the same thing and all she did was look at the camera! Wow!
I believe Mark Rydell also directed her in The Rose so she came full circle with him. Bette’s also said For The Boys was one of the few films she’s made that she’s truly proud of. I could be wrong but it seems like Hollywood has never really known what do with Bette, if she’d been around in the 40’s with her brassy personality she would’ve been the absolute queen of musicals and comedies at MGM.
Well, Bette, I saw it and I loved it, I love you and please never stop being a fabulously divine human being 👏🏼💜
I like!!!
Seinfeld: So what so what if I like Bette Midler.
How come the only award not shown from 1992 is Oliver Stone for Best Director for "JFK"? Is it because of "controversial" remarks he made? "A terrible lie was told to us 28 years ago. I hope that this film can be the first step in righting that wrong."
Yes. Very True.
Never saw this either. Deserved, of course, but wish Kathy Bates could have won something that year, too.
oh wow.....
Is there a clip of when she won for Gypsy?
she was out of the country with her family during the golden globes 1994 awards ceremony.
Just bought it
Fried Green Tomatoes is a beautiful movie. I must have watched it 200 times over the years.
Why does Angelica Houston look so pissed off in this video? lol.
i feel like that's her resting face lol
She forgot to thank Martha Raye, whose life the movie is based upon.
Didn't Martha Rae sue her?
I was shocked hearing Ellen Barkin was nominated for Switch!
If "For the Boys" was NOT produced by Midler's company I think it would have won an academy award. It was a very underrated film, but Midler and co. made a lot of mistakes--the schlocky old age makeup and their unwillingness to take a graphic stance against the war. It was a good film in spite of itself--I just wish it had more of a point and didn't rely on movie-of-the-week theatrics.
I loved the movie, but I always thought the "Red scare" scene -- with the birthday party -- should have been cut. The movie was running long and that scene did nothing for it. I think a little change like that could have helped the film a lot.
I loved the movie, but I love your torso more ahehe
They made their point without hitting people over the head. I guess if you're right then Hollywood are a bunch of block heads who have to be hit harder! Sadly! DAMN GOOD FILM!
I think her old age makeup was pretty good. But James Caan's? Horrible! He looked more like he was dead than old.
@@pikachuhatyu yes, she is very pretty.
Great movies and terriffic performance
i love me some Ms. M!!
Anjelica Huston gave an iconic performance in _The Addams Family_ , _For The Boys_ is all but forgotten - as it deserves to be.
issue was the movie cost $40 million to make back in 1991...that budget at least double what this movie needed and most went to bette
wow roseanne was lookin decent back then
It’s 2024 and Bette Midler is still not in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame 😳
michelle pfeiffer is so beautiful.
I remember Bette being so upset by the box office failure of this movie that she actually lashed out at her fans accusing them of not going out to see it in the theaters. I saw it and to be honest, I felt James Caan ruined it. I did not feel that they had any on screen chemistry at all. Just like them pairing her with the unappealing Dennis Farina in That Old Feeling. There was no magic there either.
I agree with you on Caan - but I don’t think that was quite the case with Farina. But with Caan it certainly didn’t work. At all. He called her afterwards stupid and made fun of her. Disgusting.
