Haha, too nice if you ask me. There was the part I made Nik decide what we where doing and it made me feel like a prick! I was a little demanding haha.
Go the 'goose! The bike's looking awesome in its current form and looks like it's handling some big rides nicely too. Stoked to see some more content from you in such an awesome part of the world. Keep up the great vids mate, always love watching them.
Cheers mate, appreciate it. The goose has been riding great. It’s surprisingly good. I thought the 1inch steerer and old school brakes would be a let down but I’ve had no issues at all. Saying that, I’m currently staring at an old Shogun frame that I bought for $10 back in late 2020. I was going to chuck it out but now I’m thinking about swapping parts again and giving it a try. I think the forks off the Raleigh will fit it. If they do I’m going to take it for a spin. I’m not sure why I bother but I like tinkering. 😂 ✌️
Yeah it’s pretty cool. The more I get into bikepacking the more I see and hear about different trails to ride. So many options I don’t don’t where to start looking anymore. It’s a good problem !
I think I had some Balter’s this trip. I carried 4. Drank 2. Gave one to the Hiker at pockets. Carried the last one back and drank it while we had a swim. Riding home with beer wasn’t part of the plan but felt rude drinking it when the others had nothing 😂
Anymore plans on the Mongoose upgrade? I’ve got an old Shogun Trailbreaker from my high school days. Thinking of Turning into a gravel bike, go up to 27.5 maybe. Currently it has a kids seat on front and a pannier on back to carry the footy for older kids. Still a ripper bike as is!
I love this question so much, and just a warning, my answer could be long 😂 The quick answer is I’ve actually stolen some parts off the mongoose and they’re currently on a Shogun Trailbreaker. I’ve got some 27.5 upgrades in the process but more on that in a second. I did a short ride on the Shogun over the weekend and will be uploading a video in a day or two so you can see it there. I’m also taking the Shogun on a trip this weekend so looking forward to that. Now for the long answer. I wanted to do a 27.5 wheel upgrade to the Mongoose but I want to do it a little different and outrageous. I’ve since fallen in love with the Mongoose and don’t have the heart to proceed with my ideas. I bought an old Shogun frame about 2 years ago that has been laying around so I’ve decided to work on that. My problem now is I’m really liking it as well so not sure what I’ll do. The reason for the upgrade was originally to save weight. I have a decent dual suspension bike with carbon 27.5 wheels and thought it would be cool to borrow them on bikepacking trips. They’re through axle so I’ve bought new dropouts for the fork and frame. I’ve currently removed the dropouts from the forks I have and plan to braze in new longer dropouts which will give me more tyre clearance and suit the through axle. If My idea doesn’t work and I destroy them it doesn’t matter as it’s just some old forks I bought. As for the frame, I bought some adjustable dropouts and this will mean cutting the frame and welding in the new dropouts. I’m really not sure I want to do this now because I like the frame. This Shogun frame I have has a 1 1/8 steerer and just the shape of it looks great. I thinking I might just get some quick release 27.5 inch wheels and not attack the frame but then it defeats the purpose of wanting to use my light carbon wheels. I’m a bit undecided about it all right now but my trip this weekend May help me decide. I also want to do the drop bar conversion to one of these bikes. I haven’t decided which one yet. All this has been filmed and will be made a video when it’s done. It’s slow going though, I live in a unit so only work on it when I visit my parents. (Dads got the tools 😂) I’m thinking about taking some time of work to get it done, I’m so keen to share my ideas with everyone. Thanks for the question. It’s just hyped me up haha.

Beautiful spot Dungog. I use to go camping a lot up in the Chinchester state forests. I’ve been thinking about doing a ride around that area. The huts in Kosciusko keep drawing me back there though 😀 I’ve tried riding Nik’s bike before and I can’t touch the pedals. I wanted to do it on camera because I knew it would be funny. He is exactly 1 foot taller than me. Even talking about it at the start of the ride wasn’t enough to remind me. Next time for sure! Cheers 👍

Thanks mate, I assume it would have been pretty busy down there at Easter? It’s definitely worth a ride down there. So many huts to visit. So many more to explore. Aghh I need more weekends 😂 My tent is a Alps Mountaineering, Tasmanian 2 person. It was one of the cheaper 4 seasons tents which I soon realised I don’t need. It’s very heavy, 3.5kg. A 3 season tent would be fine. It’s been a great tent but weighs heaps more than other 2 person tents. I want to get a new one myself but I really can’t decide what type I want. Whatever I get it has to have side access, I don’t like crawling out the front. No I haven’t done a video on tents but when I do get another tent I’ll probably do a trip and talk about my thoughts.
@@advanturest thanks mate. It wasn't too busy, which was nice. 3.5kg is a lot. I've been looking at a Vango F10 Helium 2 or a Lanshan 2. Both are 2 person tents under 2kg, which is nice. Looking forward to a video when you happen to get a new one.
@@edzeppelin933 I've just had a look at those tents online. both look pretty good. Originally I was going to go for something like a Big Agnes Copper Spur UL1 because its free standing but I've decided I want a 2 person again. I keep tossing up between these super light hiking tents that need hiking poles or the tunnel type tents. The 2 you just mentioned I haven't heard of but look pretty good. I found a tent I liked called the Helsport Ringstind Superlight 2. Unfortunately its super super expensive. That Vango one you mentioned looks very similar. I quiet like it. I'll have to look more into it. I also want green for stealth camping. Could be a good option. The bloke we met at Pockets hut had a Vango Omega 3 person tent. It is a heavy tent but he has used it a lot over the last 10 years and it still looked in good condition. The guy had some stories about trip's so I'd say its had some use. Could be a good indicator on quality???
@@advanturest that's good to know! I have heard the Vangos are quite good. Scottish brand I think. Good point on the hiking pole tents. If I bought the Lanshan I'd need to buy some carbon poles to use instead of the hiking poles, but they're pretty cheap from what I've seen and should be able to strap onto the bike somewhere pretty easily (28cm long for the ones I looked at). So many options though! Makes it pretty tough for someone just starting out like me.
@@edzeppelin933 it’s such a hard decision. I’ve seen a few people using the carbon poles and they all seem happy with them. That design is very spacious too. I was looking at the Zpacks tent which is similar. They are Extremely light which is very appealing. Another bit of info that might help your decision. Most of the guys I’ve been riding with are on their 2nd or 3rd tents. They keep going cheap, decide it’s not what they want and spend a bit more. Some into their 3rd now. My advice would be to do your research and be happy to pay a little more for a better tent. As the saying goes, poor man pays twice. Good luck!
