    Of course I won't have to replace my books. They were gotten rid of and sold when D&D started all the drama this year at the beginning of January. I switched to Pathfinder and have never been happier. And I found many other wonderful systems by abandoning everything Wizards of the Coast

    It's not a new edition. It's *clearly* not. It's just *slightly* rearranged and updated classes, feats, and spells, and a few of the rules are cleaned up. It's **barely** different. It's not even different enough to call it 5.5, really. OneD&D is a waste of time and a lazy, low-quality money-grab, but it's not a new edition.

    The first time one of my players goes into a closet, makes a DC 15 stealth check, then insists that they're now invisible, is the moment I ask everyone to revert to core 5e D&D only.

      🤔

      In the playtest, making a DC 15 stealth check with e.g. no creatures around (or beating their passive perception scores) causes you to become invisible until otherwise detected @shortreststudios
      It has for most of the playtest period.
      Of course, nobody knows this because I'm apparently quite literally the only person who reads anything except the class/race options in the playtest doc.
      Tried to tell Reddit but they didn't actually go in there to read it for themselves, they just called bullshit and downvoted me, but if you actually read the rules without trying to add your own baggage, it's clear as day that the rule is very silly.
      It may be an oversight, but wotc doesn't seem to have been able to figure that out for nearly the entire playtest, so I guess we're stuck with it for D&D 2024.
      Yes, I'm salty.

    5E will now be an honorary member of the OSR Gang.
    Welcome to the jungle, we have fun and games.

    Gotta love 5e players that are so adamant on refusing to play anything else other than 5e that are scared by even a little class tweak.

    sorry Jud, I'm not going to bother watching this (right now) I just dropped in to address your video's title. No. Regardless of what happens with WotC My game will go on. I have books from AD&D, 2nd Edition D&D, 3rd Edition D&D, 4th Edition D&D, and currently use Fantasy Grounds Unity to play a live in person 5th Edition D&D game every Sunday. I went decades playing 2nd Edition games without ever needing anything else, and I will not be moving past 5th for the same reason. I will never 'need' anything beyond what I already know to DM this great table top game. So, update the rules, call it whatever you want, doesn't affect Me or the great players that join Me at My table.

    i doubt that roll20 will remove 5e as it has a load of other systems than just the most currrent version of dnd

    • @shortreststudios
      @shortreststudios  8 місяців тому +1

      It depends on the licensing agreement they have with WOTC. I have no insight into what that actually is - but it wouldn’t be roll20 removing it. It would be Wizards.

    I am looking forward to the new edition! 3.5 was a fun tweaking of 3.0. I imagine this will be similar.

      That’s great!

      3.5 was a broken wreck of a system that was not really backwards compatible with 3.0.
      I really hope 2024 D&D is NOT like 3.5.
      I hope it's more like AD&D 2e which WAS backwards compatible with 1e except tweaked, tightened up and better arranged.

    Hasbro are NOT going to break in to my house, steal my books, and burn them in the street. Phew :) Looks like I can carry on playing 5E.

      I wouldn't be so sure Wotc did send the Pinkertons after a youtuber who was accidentally sold an item early. It's not that far of a step considering Nintendo's precedent of regulating how people play their game after Nintendo themselves have stopped selling it.

    • @shortreststudios
      @shortreststudios  8 місяців тому

      @@cactusman1771 yeah ok, but that’s digital. We’re talking physical products. There’s no precedent for something that far fetched.

    Exactly, play what you want to play.
    I will continue to play 5e and 3.5. I will not buy into the “new” D&D, WotC / hasbro burned that bridge.

    It might not be 6e per say that causes problems, but if Hasbro goes down DnD will not be the same even if someone nabs the rights.

    • @shortreststudios
      @shortreststudios  8 місяців тому

      If that happens it’s likely that WOTC will be spun off or sold before Hasbro goes down (I don’t think that will happen.) Regardless, there would DEFINITELY be a 6e in that case.

      honestly if someone buys it off that might be better for the game and community as a whole, tho tbh i think the corporations that would actually have the power to buy it would be even worse like disney

    Improving VTT technology without respecting or understanding what DMs actually do is a path to building something that is really just an inferior MMORPG. Then WotC loses the TTRPG players who don't want to spend attention and money on micropayment widgetry that gets in the way of what they love about the game. And WotC loses the MMORG players because other MMORPGs are better MMORPGs.

      Everything I’m hearing is that it’s not going as far as we might have feared in terms of being video gamish. And the truth is that new players will most likely be drawn to a more “modern” feeling experience. And that’s how they’ll sell it. I’m not a big fan - I’m frankly not a fan of online play in general honestly. But I think it’s going to attract newer players.

    • @fpassow1
      @fpassow1 8 місяців тому

      I never thought of it as a gateway to TTRPGs. But I can see that happening, now that you mention it. I'd love to hear how a person who'd only played video games describes the difference you get with a human DM.@@shortreststudios

    5e and d&d players in general really are the red headed stepchild of the ttrpg scene, huh.
