Just worth remembering that Alchemy was the end of the Love Over Gold tour, so apart from Terry Williams replacing Pick Withers on the drums, these were the same musicians who actually recorded the studio version.
Alchemy live is a banger start to finish 😊 we got our moneys worth at those concerts mate ☺️ Mark plays like that because he's left handed, it was easier for him to finger pick than pluck. 👍
I had the Basel version up on my channel for a number of years, it was doing ok view wise, and then all of a sudden it got blocked by UA-cam and it stayed blocked for about 7 years. A few years ago they released the block, but they had killed the video, it gets no views now, and even you used something uploaded much later, but I was sick of people telling me that the Alchemy version is better, because it really isn't. The version live in Basel is way better than the alchemy version, and I was so pleased to see that you have the same view.
I agree with you. I thought I was the only one, but I like the other one better. And that's saying something because Alchemy is so brilliant. My favorite track on Alchemy is Once Upon A Time In The West. It is so good. Loving your channel as always. Cheers Mark V, from Australia. All the best 👍🎸🎸🎸
Mark Knopfler - guitar, vocals Alan Clark - keyboards John Illsley - bass guitar, backing vocals Hal Lindes - guitar, backing vocals Terry Williams - drums Additional musicians Mel Collins - saxophone Tommy Mandel - keyboards Joop de Korte - percussion
This is such a great song. It represents everything about Dire Straits Mark Knopfler’s voice, matches his guitar work in that he’s not Eddie Van Halen or Led Zeppelin with Jimmy page or Eric Clapton. He is his own unique style.
I understand you, the studio version is longer. What's not to like? Although if you're actually there for the live then it's unbeatable, Nashville 2002 for me.
The "Alchemy" concert was great, so many good songs. You should watch "Tunel of Love" "Live Wembley 85", the end is so wonderful, you feel like you're flying. DS were always better live for me.
Amazing version but my absolute favourite version is from the 1991/92 tour. Knopfler's guitar work by 1992 was on a whole new level. Like you say it's all subjective. Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits are on a whole separate plane of music.
I agree with you. There are many better versions than this, however to the very casual fan Alchemy is the only concert they know due fact it's an official release. I've been going to see Straits/Knopfler since 1991, have attended countless shows, even abroad and feel qualified to say Telegraph Road peaked from 1996-05 without doubt. There are a few really nice audience videos from the 2005 tour on UA-cam.
You have got the right Album Wrong Song you need last song on the Album Going Home Instrumental with the Guirest Hank Marvin that MK used as his teacher Hank Marvin was in a instrumental group called The Shadows
Great Reaction, thank you! From the Alchemy Tour version I only like the man on the piano, the rest sounds too much like the 80's, in my opinion. I prefer his solo version: Mark Knopfler - Telegraph Road (Sevilla 26.07.2015) ua-cam.com/video/ci3OyvBvWnQ/v-deo.html
@@BertSmithLondon eh, I’m not sure about those and how the UA-cam algorithms react with them . I’ve thought about it but I’m probably not going to do that.
The night my friend and I went this was their encore after over 2 hrs off utter, utter joy.

Absolute perfection !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A masterpiece !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t know if this is the best live version, but this song is probably one of the best ever written.
Totally agree
And it’s kind of funny and ironic that I grew up in the Detroit area where one of their main roads is Telegraph Road.
Yes, the version from Basel-92 is really really good! I like them both!😊👍

I've said the before and make no apologies for saying it again Mark Knopfler I'd the most underrated guitarist in the history of rock
Not to other great guitarist. They know.

The Basel version is better than this, but the whole Alchemy concert is great.
Marks guitar has a super tone
Mark Knopfler - guitar, vocals
Alan Clark - keyboards
John Illsley - bass guitar, backing vocals
Hal Lindes - guitar, backing vocals
Terry Williams - drums
Additional musicians
Mel Collins - saxophone
Tommy Mandel - keyboards
Joop de Korte - percussion

I agree! I prefer the later versions (e.g., 2013 tour). This version is FASTER though, so that it seems more impressive.

🎉🎉🎉. Wow
Awesome :)
And finally, one of the best guitar solos, because it also remained in the rhythm of the song.
Left handed playing right handed
