  • We make farm ground viable again by taking out the invasive thorn brushes and undesirable trees overgrowing the pastures! I paid over $25,000 for this FECON forestry mulcher and I'm getting every dollar of use out of it!

How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a UA-cam channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin. Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like. These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.

Hey Ryan, Now you took me back to my childhood talking about " Puff Balls" I remember going with my Dad picking them and taking them back to My Grandma's house and her frying them up. My Grandfather use to call them Poor Mans Steak. Dang were they good. As i am sitting here thinking about them, It has been maybe 50 to 55 years since I had any, I just turned 65 on #/18, So that lkind of tells you it has been a while. Living in Florida for the past 45 years, Well they just don't have them here.
Enjoyed your video, Thanks for bring back some good memories.

Thanks for sharing, great video, the brush grinder certainly does a nice job on what you can reach. Was wondering if it might be worth making up some extensions for the hydraulic lines so you could extend the boom when working near danger trees. I’d think the more distance between you and them the better.
The other day when Travis let the cows out onto the pasture and they were celebrating the new grass was great to see. Recommend he record videos of that to share since it generated lots of positive comments and does the same for other channels that share it. Might be something for a video for you to record for your channel. In the UK Tom Pemberton announces it and people 100s of people come to the farm to watch. He gets plenty of views also with some really nice drone shots in addition. Looking forward to seeing more of the recovered pastures as you are able to share. It’s amazing the land you can find that’s been hidden in plain sight. Wishing you and your family the best.

That mulching did a lot of things, added space, make the land good for cattle, added nutirents to compost in the woods, and reduce fire risk. would you put some pasture seed down by speader. Really loved how you mulched the fence line for safety and maintenance and ability to bring gators with your brother.

Great vid, as always. As far as a tool that may be useful for working those fence lines where you can't take vehicles - we use Stihl brush saws, the bicycle handle style, when clearing brush from hiking trails, specifically the Pacific Crest Trail. We'll take it out 8 feet wide to make room for the equestrians with pack stock. Can do 3/4 mile a day, but that includes throwing the brush. I'd suggest a FS110 minimum, although I like the 250's that our crew has (the current product line is the 251, or possibly the 240). Get the limit stop, some carbide tipped 7 1/4" blades, a nice harness, and a face shield helmet.

Ryan, question for you. Are controlled or prescribed burns a viable option for managing areas unreachable by the JCB? You are creating great fire lines by mulching areas so that might permit you to use fire. Doing good things to manage and improve the land. Good luck and stay safe in your efforts.
