Yeah, heard it. 'A' seemed brighter but I was really surprised how much I loved the mellower tone of 'B'.

When I played a Larivee with rosewood sides and back I could literally feel the difference in the resonance. I spent a little more for the rosewood but never regretted it. To this day I get compliments on the smooth deep sound.

Love the vid. I picked A rosewood after hearing it before I even heard B. No mistaking that warm bass. Love the editing at the end. You missed an opportunity to have just your shirt change for a second or two or a hat come and go between the guitars changing. That would have been funny since the guitars were changing back and forth so much and yet you hardly moved at all.😁

Both are fantastic guitars. I could tell A was the rosewood one. More low end resonance. Boucher does a great job building and setting them up that they milk out every ounce of tone. That line is above my pay grade, but I do own a Martin D-28 Marquis and a Martin D-18 standard.
Good comparison...the mahogany sounds so much clearer...Good review...For me I prefer "all mahogany" guitars, top, back and sides...has the best balance, compression, clarity, chime, presence and definition.
I also grew to love my all-hog more than my spruce-rosewood.

That makes choosing very difficult for me. Though I am a picker, I probably do better with rhythm. I need more volume, but I like the soft and full sound of the mahogany. I own & enjoy a DM Martin. I've been searching for one that will not chime when I dig into it harder for loudness, especially in a jam where 28s tend to drown me out. 🙂
I had a d35 which could sing on top of anything. The d28’s are hard to play acoustic on top of, I’ll agree with that.
I would love, LOVE to hear the following comparison: Studio Goose VS Bluegrass Goose with the same tone wood.
Sg is voiced more for overtones and bg is voiced for note fundamental and loudness😊

I have always liked Rosewood. I have an early/mid 80s Yamaha L10-A solid rosewood back and sides that is an amazing sounding guitar. I have only played a handful of guitars that sounds as good. It is deep, bright with punchy mids.
I think guitar A is the mahogany, and guitar B is the rosewood. Guitar B has a deeper sound, while A is brighter.
I guess you could hear the difference a bit better by doing fingerpickings.
I agree with you, there' s something more bass response, more low end with rosewood, depends on the guitar of course but generally it' s so.
So this is a reason why a lot of fingerpickers prefer mahagony, a bit more mids response, less bass and nice trebles, not too sharp.
And it' s also a question of taste.
A beautiful mellow brown mahagony or a deep brown rosewood.
My favorite guitars are a Martin 000-18 and a Martin D-18 GE.
My next guitar should be a parlor size but this time with rosewood back and sides.
These Boucher guitars are sounding amazing, both.

I think a lot depends on the top. A good quality cedar over mahogany and spruce over rosewood in a size that fits your preferences will cover pretty much all the acoustic tonal bases you'll ever need to cover with only 2 guitars. Personally I like OM sized acoustics for comfort, sound, and versatility. Both of those are nice guitars, but I'd want a cedar top on the hog model to justify getting both :)
I have a Martin D-28 rosewood with quarter inch wide grain from the fastest growth Ad spruce ever found only made in 65 or 66’ traveled 4 states playing every new Martin , when I picked it up and played ,it was the one sound like no other
The A-B was hard because they are voiced so well!
I found it difficult to hear the difference between these in the video but when I’ve played them I could. I play a maple Taylor and enjoy the higher resonance the strings give me. It’s just whatever you prefer I guess…

I play a lot of bluegrass music, and definitely agree that the rosewood definitely has a warmer tone.
And the mahogany had more clarity, especially on the high end.
I play some lead, but for the majority of my life, I've only played rosewood guitars.
But bought a mahogany guitar a couple of years ago, and was suprised at the tone. It has better clarity, but still has a good low end sound without it being overpowering.

I totally agree with your comment, I have two Taylor guitars, I have the 5 to 4: and the 814, one is Rosewood back inside, the other one is mahogany all around solid wood, and I do feel the punchy Ness, and the brightness of that mahogany guitar over the Rosewood one.

Yep, it is going to be different for each person. I did a video comparing Rosewood, Mahogany and Maple and the biggest difference was in the maple guitar. I too describe the difference about how you define it but again, each person is going have their favorites. Even the finish used and how thin or thick it's applied will make a difference. Yes it does but I find it's not so much to be a drastic difference. At least to my ears. But as I've said before, many times, each person will hear the tone differently.

The Boucher B is standard with the BG as far as I know. I stand to be corrected.
I've played rosewood guitars for years and decided I would like to have a mahogany. My two rosewood guitars are martins hd-28 and d-35 so I tried the d-18 then the Gibson j-45 which I bought. The j-45 gets most playing time now. You are not going to dislike either. I play mostly at church and the mahogany blends perfectly with the piano but like I said either will do. Note there are also differences in types of mahogany that makes a difference also.

The difference between rosewood and mahogany are the mic issues. Rosewood has alot of overtones that make it a nightmare to fit into a mix. Most studio recordings are made with mahogany. You can add bass to mahogany as it doesn't have alot of overtones. Mahogany fits nicely with other instruments into a mix. For live solo performance one can really boost the bass frequencies for a huge sound, too.
Using electronic systems is pretty much a wash. Just depends on the system. The best I've ever heard are the ones that are mounted in Cole Clark guitars. Cole Clark is an Australian brand little known in the USA. Ben Harper uses one. I have one as well. The electronics are the best in the world. Never heard a better system.
For me rosewood is great for the living room and solo singer-songwriter type recordings w/an upfight bass, brush drums and a lead instrument. Rosewood's sound is beautiful. Mahogany is pretty utilitarian by comparison.
Used to sell Martins in the early-to-mid '70s ... We had a REALLY old D-35 with Brazillian rosewood that was as thick and warm sounding as any guitar you have ever heard. And I have played some old Martins that were mahogany that were very rich in the bottom end, but maintained the crisp top end that the old D-35 did not have. My opinion is that rosewood will sound thicker brand new; but long term, that mahogany really is the best.

Gr8 video guys, enjoyed the awesome pickin. I chose the correct ones, but took a lil bit to discern them.
I own both tone woods, and find the rosewood I have to be careful not to over play it, it’s a Martin HD28v, while my O18 mahogany is more articulate and sings. ‘51 Gibson J50 mahogany on the other hand is more dull, and suited for blues or old folk.
They all have their own voice, FWIW.

I've played a 1961 Gibson J-50 that blared (it's loud and the tone is not very rich) so it's perfect for blues and lead playing.
i prefer the punch of the mahogany, but i got such a good deal on a used eastman ac720ce that i went with the rosewood because i really wanted a cutaway guitar with a built in pickup and a dread body and they discontinued this model. it sounds good and plays easy so i am happy with it. does eastman make a cutaway with a pickup and dread body with mahogany back and sides? if so, what is the model #? thanks.
I have two Taylor guitars, the all mahogany 524: and the all Rosewood back inside, 814 both of them are solid woods all around, I definitely notice the punches on the all mahogany, but I love the sound of mahogany, don’t give me wrong love my 814 as well.

Short answer is "yes" 😂. Both models can be great for alternate tuning.
Surprisingly little difference! I normally gravitate to hog but preferred the rosewood bumping out the bass a bit more.
There was a difference, but it did not seem to be significantly enough to tell me to pick one over the other.
Bocher-I don’t think I’m spelling the name of the Guitar right and I apologize. I have heard several people say that they would rather have this guitar than a Martin. In another video that was demoing one of these guitars, I noticed in hearing it, the same problem that the guitar that the man was playing in the introduction has and that is to me that the action is too low because I’m hearing a lot of buzzing and that I don’t like to hear I don’t find that pleasant. I don’t believe it is because he has failed to put on the SEO accurately as I heard this in the last video as well with this brand, I think it would probably outdo Martin if it was only set up correctly or perhaps there needs to be a nut and a bridge adjustment so that it rings clear .
Can clearly hear the difference between the guitars. Great playing, I wish I were that good. Close, but no I am not. It's really fun to listen to a great player.
That must be a brand new guitar because that mahogany is BRIGHT!
It needs some UV rays to darken up that color and give it that beautiful richness that mahogany is known for.

I have a Martin D-35., among others. The one thing that I noticed with the D-35 was when I opened the case, the aroma of roses. This is a great match up for comparing the two hard tone woods. Thank you.

I'm a total nube at this. What would different strings do to the resonance of both guitars? In other words, would "magic" strings change the sound profiles enough to increase the resonance of the mahogany or the depth of the rosewood? Thanks

Let the little guy talk he seems to be more knowledgeble and a lot less rude. The big guy keeps trying to talk over him like he can't share the mic. Like the little guy isn't allowed to speak in his presence and contradicts himself with everything he says sometimes in the same sentence. The little guy stays more focused, to the point, and doesn't contradict himself with every other word. He is patient, polite and respectful of others and doesn't talk so loudly as to drowned out everyone else because he likes to hear the sound of his own voice because he thinks he is so charming and much better than everyone else in the room.
I thought the A guitar had the bark of a rosewood that I prefer.
Dont get me wrong I love the big guys enthusiasm and spirit he just needs to back off a little dont interupt the other person speaking and dont try to talk over him. His input is valuable also.
Great comparison and format. First time here. Respectively, I just found Jeremy interrupted a bit much with the humour which stopped the flow but otherwise it was a good quality informative video. Ps, I liked the fullness of the Rosewood.

I like the color of the mahogany .
That’s its natural color without toner.
To me, the notes on mahogany guitars bloom faster than rosewood. So on fast lead lines, the tempo exceeds the bloom rate with rosewood, while the mahogany is able to keep up.

Couldn't really hear much of a difference, if any........you should have played exactly the same parts on each guitar....this just shows that Bouchers are so good it doesn't matter what the back and sides are...it's almost all in the top guys! It's like splitting hairs over two bottles of wine from the same batch. I have a Boucher as well as quite a few high end guitars and seriously it really doesn't matter much to me if I grab a mahogany or rosewood one....there is a very minor difference in how I feel the vibe but that could be because my guitars are from five different builders, but I don't think anyone listening can hear the difference. I notice it more on my classical guitars, actually, where my two rosewood ones definitely have more bottom end than my mahogany and cypress ones, but actually I like all four of them. If you play well the back and sides really don't factor much into it methinks. I do agree that when I sing and am primarily strumming chords, I usually pick my rosewood dread.....usually, not always....it does seem to have a real gutsy bottom end punch, almost overpowering at times.
I know i want rosewood, now i just dont know if i want the bourgeois touchstone or a larrivee
Both can be really solid options, we highly recommend playing before buying, although between the two brands, we personally don't think there's a wrong choice here! 🙂

Guitar B. It has a much more characterful sound.
The woofy low-end of Guitar A is stepping all over the mids.
To each his own but I prefer the rosewood. But I am open minded so if you guys could send me one of each and let me hold on to them for a couple of months it would be helpful I promise to show up and pay you for the one I keep. You can trust me.

When I could not see which guitar was which, I chose the Mahogany as the one that sounded most like Rosewood.
When I was able to see which guitar was which, I chose the Rosewood as my favorite.
For what ever reason, I hear guitars differently when I can see them.
How many of you are the same?.
The Rosewood has more punch and bassy sound to it while the Mahogany has a bright, warm sound. Well that's my opinion.

Do you know what’s funny is and many guitar forums that I’ve seen online they all say the exact opposite of what you said. They all said singers like Mahogany guitars and that the voice goes better with mahogany guitars naturally. People were saying that Rosewood guitars are two full sounding, and the singers have to compete against the Rosewood. They think Rosewood is better for flat picking and lead stuff. It’s just funny because we all have different opinions and views on things lol.

I’ve had both… not a fan of rosewood…i owned a $3500 Taylor with rosewood….ended up hating it… i bought a Martin mahogany…. Beautiful!

@@AcousticShoppe Because I can only play one at a time and I don't play out to use them on a regular basis. I also have the Takamine J-249 (?) the Martin lawsuit model from 1983 which was my first guitar, plus 3 electric guitars that I don't play as much as my Guild. For the past 15 years I've coveted a Collings until I recently watched some JP Cormier videos with Bouchers.
Well, I ran the video in picture and picture while running a spectrum analyser in full frame. What did I see??
A remarkable difference. The first guitar, presumably mahogany, was very strong and punched hard in the mid range. The second guitar was primarily strong in the Low portion of the frequency domain. This difference was not subtle.
You might like to do the same thing and record it so as to show future customers an example of a difference for the picture beats a thousand words hands down.

I will never watch or comment on another video here again. To prove my sincerity, I plan on watching every video you guys post and will comment accordingly. Now, your graphic showing firearms is misleading. Why didn't the instruments have firearms holstered for the shootout? Oh, useful commentary? OK, I am partial to Adirondack Spruce / Madagascar Rosewood. I like Mahogany, but I tend to go with Maple for its articulation as a preference. The East Indian Rosewood instrument was very easy to pick out for its especially full sound. The Mahogany guitar sounded very nice, too.

Guitar B had more volume and tone. More bottom end. My choice.
I got it wrong and i have both.
I've always been a hog man. I was listening thinking A was hog... almost disappointed in myself because I preferred the sound of B, which was more alive and which I thought had a deeper bass. Lo and behold, B was mahogany, the one my ears typically prefer! The differences weren't all that much - it really is just down to the build!

I thought guitar A was Mahogany and of course B was rosewood. I have a nice guitar with Engleman Spruce top and rosewood back and sides, maple neck . Now i go see if i was correct. Great job showing us the difference. You are a great player btw and actually both of you are. Wow, i was totally wrong. lol Oh well, just goes to show i don't have a good ear for music. I concur with your views. I have the same specification as your guitar. I thought guitar A shaded the play off which I hope was rosewood 🙂The standard of guitar playing was superb which showcased the range of both mahogany and rosewood. Great video guys.

To my ears guitar A was the mahogany and B the rosewood.
Depends what you're playing. Bluegrass? Of course mahogany is gonna sound better. Notes will pop off faster. Quick decay. Doesn't make one or the other better or worse. Depends on style. Either way a good player can get either to sound amazing
