It depends on what he means. Not wanting converts in the sense of not proselytising or not actively desiring conversion isn't discriminatory at all imo... The opposite actually, it's much less judgemental than other religions who tell you that you need to convert or burn forever. But not wanting to accept them however is different (and discriminatory).

It's not really about not allowing. It's about believing that conversion isn't necessary for anybody. And therefore having strict standards for those that want to do something in their opinion unnecessary.

Abraham himself was a convert. the fact that only people with Jewish heritage can convert is beyond me. I support all of the Jewish communities and I believe anybody who is willing and wanting to follow the Jewish faith should be able to. I understand the need to protect the boundaries so that Judaism will not be so watered down as to be unrecognisable - and there should also be respect for those who do carry out the many rules and regulations. However I am at a loss to understand a rigidity that far from protecting Judaism actually injures it. With so much intermarriage, surely the prime aim should be to bring the non-Jewish partner into the fold, thereby ensuring that the family unit will be Jewish? I think it’s a 50-50 debate because he is right on same things but on others his a little off. He says he wants to keep Jewish tradition. I strongly believe if someone from here that has been practicing for a long time, can prove to convert why not. Why would it have to be done outside of here. I don’t think it’s something Jews from Israel will be happy with if it’s done over there, they won’t want to convert someone just like that, mostly with all that they have been through.

It depends on what he means. Not wanting converts in the sense of not proselytising or not actively desiring conversion isn't discriminatory at all imo... The opposite actually, it's much less judgemental than other religions who tell you that you need to convert or burn forever. But not wanting to accept them however is different (and discriminatory).

It also was a major influence in South East Asia prior to Buddhism. So it's not an ethno-religion in the same way as Judaism; which is practiced solely by the Jewish people.

I understand the need to protect the boundaries so that Judaism will not be so watered down as to be unrecognisable - and there should also be respect for those who do carry out the many rules and regulations.
However I am at a loss to understand a rigidity that far from protecting Judaism actually injures it. With so much intermarriage, surely the prime aim should be to bring the non-Jewish partner into the fold, thereby ensuring that the family unit will be Jewish?
Do these zealous rabbis perhaps think that by making conversion so difficult Jews will be deterred from "marrying out"? In what alternative universe are these rabbis living? That ship has sailed.
