Actually, it depend on you. If you never play rubik snake, you must play rubik snake 24 pieces first, then you can try 48 pieces or 60 pieces later.
Don't worry to buy too much, you can save by combining rubik snakes, for example : 24 pieces + 36 pieces = 60 piecese or 48 pieces + 72 pieces = 120 pieces ( use double side tape) ^^
