When she says "Don't step on his gown", it's indicated towards the LGBTQ+ community (the entire second para basically) and a lot of men dress in clothes that supposed to be feminine. So basically, don't step on his gown like just let him be. And then she says " Don't step on our gowns" So basically just let everyone live their lives the way they want to. It's basically another way of saying don't rain on my parade

She couldn't use YNTCD as the first single because it would looked like that the album's tone is gonna be "political" when it's really not. ME!'s purpose is to set the tone of her new era which ME! done perfectly. May not be the her best single but it accomplished it's purpose.

Have you heard the album, this album is extremely political, which is the point, besides the love songs, and she’s even said so herself. She wanted to use her platform and not stay silent like she did last election (Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince illustrates this)

Those "Oh-Oh's" were musically the best part of the song. I too love how that was layered. It sounded really nice. I also love all the positive messages in the song. So many of these lyrics can apply to everyone. People obsess over and insult people they don't know because they have issues in their own right. She speaks the truth. This is important in the age of the internet where people are constantly saying hurtful comments about others, who they often don't even know personally, because they are protected by the anonymity of the internet. It's hard, but everyone has to try and get to the point where it doesn't or generally doesn't bother you and acknowledge that those people act like that because of their own problems.
