I agree!! The original Kilian LDBS was the best. Dont understand why they reformulated. Asked Kilian reps and they all insist it wasnt. But I smell the difference and it now seems completely strategic as they have this extreme flanker lol
Agree, the reformulation is MUCH lighter than the original, which was deep, rich, and gorgeous. I returned mine to Sephora. I was hoping the Extreme might have been similar to the original deep fragrance but it sounds like it isn't. Thanks for the review!
I loved hearing your candid thoughts on this and former iterations. What a bummer they diluted it so! I have never smelled it, but my Mom was greek and we use a lot of orange blossom water and rose water as well so it made me want t9o smell the original!
I agree with you Sebastian! I was hoping it would be a stronger version of the original but the Extreme version smells like rose water🙈I really enjoy your videos, especially if they are about unisex or women's fragrances🥰
I appreciate your review but for me, I love it more than the OG Love. For me, the rose just classes it up and the projection and longevity is exceptional. the original was just too sweet for me. wishing you good health. Thank you for the review.
Wonderful review, thank you for your insight. I got a sample of this and the Neroli and orange blossom come across very strong. Not in a bad way thought. On my skin the rose does not even transmit. How do you think the extreme compares to au pays de la fleur d'oranger neroli blanc intense?
I agree about combining the orange blossom with the rose. I use them both but whenever I've tied to combine
(in a tea or a toner spray for instance) they seem to cancel one another.
Wow I actually like this extreme version better. I feel like the rose smooths it out a bit more, and it’s definitely strong and longer lasting on me. I do have to agree about the reformulations and price increase though. Now I understand why I have Orange and red juice. I thought it was an age issue.
@Serena Chairs really omg it’s backward for me lol the original one smells so freaking sweet on me it almost smells like a generic cheapie perfume lol , the extreme smells so sophisticated , fairly sweet and bit floral on me

Amazing that it works backwards for me and my skin, original makes me sick :/ extreme is more wearable .
The dry down of the original intensifies on me by the minute, the extreme wears down into a sweet floral marshmallow .

I didn’t care for the original so I actually like the extreme better. I don’t pick up the rose. I find this one less sweet and cloying.
I wish they would just leave fragrances alone and let it be a stand alone fragrance for future years. Its confusing and complicated for buyers that think they are getting a certain Perfume. Its sneaky too:(

Ahhhhh I agree with you completely about the term “extreme”. It’s a shame they changed up the scent. I’m obsessed with the original one as well, but it’s so hard to find the pre-2019 formula here in Australia.

Perdizione also falls into this fluently of fragrances and includes petigrain, it’s from nobile 1942 and just delicious, thanks for your honesty this was the most helpful review I’ve seen on this new frag

I have not smelled this one but i ve experienced "extreme" version and i feel betrayed when the scent profile changes by alot.. im like : this is another fragrance or this should be a flanker. IT IS NOT AN EXTREME, it is not the same.. so i empathize with you and don't blame you for being critical, i can totally relate to that.
I completely see what you're saying about them taming one to have an extreme. It's very Estee Lauder isn't it? Which is a shame and not really what we expect from Kilian. I do love the original but it can be too sweet for me to wear often. I agree what you say about the "extremness" but I like the rose, it really tames the sweetness, and I got the tiny green touches, thought I was going mental but I did see one other mention it. I feel across some other niche brands, that they pushed out their juices too quick from last year. Maybe of high demand or the very turbulent year? My latest xerjoff purchase for ex. feels very soft and lacking performance, also the juice is much brighter. According to xerjoff, I need to be a little patient and let the fresh batch macerate.

Thanks for all the information so that we can make an informed purchase knowing more about the difference in smell of the same fragrance. This particular fragrance will be an easy pass for me then since I prefer a fragrance to stand true to itself or else change the name of the fragrance if the formulation is going to be different. Extreme means "more than" and at higher concentration, period, not a change in notes.
I loved the original! Extreme to me, would mean you accentuate an aspect/note, or theme of the perfume. Adding woods would do that, but I’m not sure about rose. Adding “love”, as in rose? 🤷🏽♀️
You are right Senastian. 👍 I had the same experience with good girl gone bad frag. My pervious bottles dated 3 years ago were totally different scent than the one I got in 2020. It was so weak, and faint that I ended up returning it and the perfumery boutique didn’t even question my claim that is was “expired”... they agreed it didn’t smell as it should. now I see that it was not the expired bottle. It was a new, reformulated one. Meh...
Did you try the special edition 2019 one? I think it had Oud in it?
This is exactly how I feel about the or Chanel Coco mademoiselle edp... they've reformulated it to where there's no sparkling orange opening, no clean smell, to me it now smells like club d Nuit ewww. If you sabastain could plz tell me where I can still find the unreformulated Chanel I would greatly appreciate it.

What are your thoughts on Kilian saying they have not reformulated the fragrance? They say the juice will darken to the the deep red color that you are used to? Have you experienced this with other fragrances? They darken over time? They are very adamant that they do not reformulate. What do you think? I haven't been into fragrances long enough to know if that's a thing??
What is odd is I just wore my original black bottle a few days ago and loved it. Now watching this I sprayed the extreme on one hand and then the original on the other and the original doesn’t smell like I remember. Almost like smelling the other one first ruined it. I like the extreme but it should be a separate fragrance under a totally different name

@Caphale Coombs Pretending racism and lack of representation doesn't exist won't make it go away. Personally watch several fragrance oriented content creators and don't hear much about houses like Chris Collins or Kimberly New York among others. I would enjoy his take on them and bringing attention to the ones I'm not familiar with.

I completely agree with you. A lot of perfume brands reformulate perfumes we love and then they smell completely different plus they charge us more for them when they already are at a high enough price. I don’t think they make “extreme” versions for our perfume enjoyment because the perfumes should be strong enough in the first place. Most extreme versions are not even extracts. They do all this for only one reason. MONEY!

Sadly no one I know would be selling this version anymore. Try eBay or a collector selling it just be careful!!

My white bottle Love, Don't Be Shy has pretty dark juice. Are you sure it has been reformulated? Mine turned stronger and darker for a year. I'm part of the Kilian Facebook group and members there (and Kilian himself) say it hasn't been reformulated. Maybe they're lying? Maybe the juice needs to macerate.
How long have you worn Love prior to buying the white bottle?

I bought my husband the Kilian 2020 holiday discovery set and I can tell a difference in the love don’t be shy I have(black bottle) and the newer one in the discovery set. It doesn’t last as long and I can tell a slight difference in smell 🤷♀️
Same experience here. I had a travel set of Love (black old version) which was dark and intense. I also had a refill bottle (new one) with pale juice but it did darken over time and got more intense. Jasmine and Orange Blossom extracts tend to oxidize over time and macerate more and more giving it a dark strong orange hue that we all know and love (love lol🌸🙈)

Me too. Try Memo Sintra! It’s an intense LDBS to me. Buying a bottle this weekend after testing it for a week.
I got the sample a few weeks ago and never smelled the pre 19 version , i am a man and even i wear dont be shy its smells like candy to me.

Great video! I appreciate the honesty. I must admit I haven't bought full bottles of By Kilian. It is a brand that seems overhyped to me. With all the changes, I wonder if Love Don't Be Shy is still Rihanna's fragrance.

Hi there "the perfume guy" is there any oil that one may put on first to make Kilian LDBS last longer? I'm not sure if there are other tricks, but if you can share- it'll be appreciated.
You might buy vanilla and Neroli oils but then again they won’t be identical. But the idea might be there! I’m planning on a video soon again about LDBS stay tuned for that! 😀

I have tested the Extreme the first day it came out in the shop and could compare to the original... i like both but for the price i won’t get the Extreme only because it is a limited edition just because it is more expensive for a "lighter" version. In my opinion it is not worth the price... So i will repurchase the original one day, i won’t do it for the Extreme 🤗

I remember how disappointed I was when i bought a refill and realised that it was reformulated. It was not so strong, lighter colour and not smelling so bold and sweet. I went back to the shop and they told me that colour changes as ingredients are so natural. I believe reformulation is simply a cheaper version for them because of the hype. I haven't tried extreme yet.
Is there a trick we can do to make it last longer on our skin?

I came here to say the same thing! Lauder weakened several Frederic Malle scents also.
I got a very recent bottle and the juice is pale gold. It's so weak I can spray it 4 times and it's still gone in an hour. Incredibly disappointing for the price. Tracking down the original is also difficult. I was interested in trying the extreme but I love the orange blossom. Not interested in another rose fragrance twist which seems to be a popular flanker style in recent years: take the fragrance and add or amp up a rose note.
I got the original one last year and I do have to admit that it is pretty weak. Last about an hour or two.
I definitely will be trying this new one but most likely won’t be buying it.. Watered down.
Thank goodness the electric urine color is turning more peach/orange color over time. I bought my bottle when it came out and its 3/2022

I find most of Kilian are overrated and overpriced. There are only a few standouts, especially from the current collection. Love not a good fragrance imo, Love Extreme is even worse and both fall into that overpriced and overhyped category and they smell synthetic and flat. Maybe ok as a first perfume for a teenage girl.
This fragrance should be called Love Rose Jam
I just tried the samples for both. I can tell you, for me, if you want a scent that develops like Love, Don't Be Shy buy yourself Eden from Cacharel. And if you prefer the 'extreme' version, try 'Pansy' from lush. Trust and believe they are even better, for a very affordable price.
With you 100% the new one isn’t extreme. The reformation of love don’t be shy is weak. It’s sad. Killan used to be quality!
I have owned the original since 2010, long before the UA-cam hype. As a guy, this always gets me a ton of compliments, and I'm gutted that they've reformulated it because a nouveau riche celebrity made it a best-seller. Sad. Same thing with Creed unfortunately, watered-down beyond recognition.
