It's great to see trolls getting more attention. They're an underrated classic. I wrote a book about a world thick with fog and full of trolls. They're a lot of fun to write.
The fact the word troll was a catch all, is such a disservice to other supernatural beings. Even if it was the way of things back in the day.
The Three Billy Goats Gruff was always one of my childhood favorites. I think a detailed history of that story would be interesting. Good content, great channel.
The Trolls in Sir Terry Pratchett's Discworld are my favorite version of the Troll race. Detritus and Brick are incomparable characters and the whole silicone-based biology angle is sheer genius.
Just started watching your videos as a fellow fan of folklore! I come from Sweden and over here Trolls are not always inherently evil nor stupid. Some times they represent the danger of the wilderness/the unknown, some times they are their own people living outside of human society with their own culture and family bonds. Many times they are dangerous, but some times they are just tricksters or just like people like you and I. In Swedish folk lore many things represent nature, and the danger and beauty it brings, and the respect it deserves, and I too see Trolls as part of that. They are nature spirits just like elves and fairies and the gnomes!
Trolls may be dangerous, but they might just be trying to survive in the wild among people who have itchy sword hands.
Trolls are incredibly hard to kill in D&D & Pathfinder. You have to use fire or acid to prevent them from regenerating.
I like to think of trolls this way instead of the tiny Rainbow guy's
Troll was an umbrella term describing anyone or anything living outside civilization: be it a witch, wild boar, wolf, etc
This warms my heart so much. I grew up watching Tales of Arcadia: Trollhunters. Caused me to create my own species of trolls lol. Thank you so much for making this video!! It’s good to see more of trolls!
One of my favorite recent versions of the Troll are the ones from Hilda! And I know now why they don’t like bells, because Trolls were originally scared away by Church bells. (Though I guess they took the religious aspect out of it and just made them not like the ringing of bells in general…)
In my future novels, I would use them as extinct creatures as well as goblins and imps, though the orcs are entirely an endangered mythical creature species.
In the Skylanders video game franchise, trolls are used as a common enemy that can easily be defeated by the playable characters. And speaking of trolls as playable characters, the only known troll to serve on the side of good in the games is Boomer. Skilled in the field of demolition and explosives, Boomer decided to become a hero after overhearing the plans of his fellow trolls to destroy a dam and flood a nearby town. By using sheep to bear the force of incoming water, Boomer's heroics were recognized by Master Eon and the cyborg troll was made a Skylander.
Troll from Netflix and troll hunter are really good movies that explore on this amazing creatures. Great video as always 👍😀
In Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Harry and Ron saved Hermione from a dimwitted, but dangerous troll who was released from his prison by Professor Quirinus Quirrell.
In the games which r set in the Forgotten Realms there r Trolls in that and they can only be killed with fire or acid.
He didn't bother stopping to discuss Nuttin like didn't even pause.
The movie Troll on Netflix was awesome!
Great episode! My Basic Fantasy RPG group had to battle trolls tonite!
Wow! Didn't know there was so much cross cultural mythos regarding trolls! Always been intrigued by trolls & you've woven in the various depictions of trolls in virtually all of the epic , like Beowulf, The Hobbit,...so beautifully! Brilliantly done once again!🌹💜🌎
