When Guillermo Navarro was looking for an agent, the top one in Hollywood told him: “why do I need a Mexican when I already have a gardener?” I guess this Oscar is the best middle finger Navarro can give to that man.
A movie that wins best cinematography has always won because it is the Cinematography that is right for the movie, you can have bad and great cinematography but, there right one is always the best. Guillermo Navarro is great btw

Guillermo Del Toro is indeed BRILLIANT! But pair Del Toro with the vision of Navarro and what you get is nothing short of a MASTERPIECE. This Oscar is well deserved and long over due. I will always fancy the beautiful minds and works of Guillermo Del Toro and Guillermo Navarro.
Anyone saying he didn't deserve the Oscar needs to get their eyes re-checked. I've seen all the nominated films, and I can honestly say that Guillermo's was the best.
That year was awesome and I never forget it!!! 10 mexicans nominated and won 2 (Also Art Direction). Not forgetting the triumphs for Spain, Argentina, and the first Oscar for Martin Scorsese.
Right bro , its one of the best. Others are lawrence of arabia, days of heaven, blade runner, apocalypse now, fellowship of the ring, interstellar, blade runner 2049 and the revenant.
@@sadenb I agree, that movie has become one of my favorite movies ever and I must confess that I hate movies with spanish accent (I mean accent from Spain, I'm latin) but this one is so magical!
Pan's Labyrinth and Children of Men... two of my favourite films; two films from great Mexican auteurs who are also very close friends! I have to say that although Pan's Labyrinth has the better art and production design and is overall more aesthetically interesting and pleasing (it is del Toro after all!), Children of Men deserved this award, some shots in that movie had my jaw dropped to the floor!
Whoa, so it was Gwyneth Paltrow... lol For 12 years I believed it was Nicole Kidman who presented Oscar for cinematography with that line that introduced me to UA-cam. I had no idea what youtube was until it got a shout-out from the Oscars. Crazy.
As much as I admire the cinematography of ''Pan's Labyrinth'' I can't accept that it was a fair win. ''Children of Men'' had the best cinematography in years and that's a fact. The cinematography was groundbreaking.
The Black Dahlia looks gorgeous but Pan's Labyrinth has one more complex task, while reading both scripts one is easier to imagine than the other, and is a kind of images that you can find in another neo-noirs films. I have a theory if films such like Gilda or Notorious were in color would look like that.
PN looks great, but I think the whole film looked very "lit", and you could tell where he placed the lights, personally, I think children of men should have won it as the cinematography didn't draw as much attention to itself, especially lighting wise, but when analysed it was an incredible feat in image capture.
Pues si pero la academia esta bien pendeja y no sabe reconocer lo que es de calidad, y aunque lo reconocieron hasta la forma del agua era obvio que lo merecía mil veces más el laberinto del fauno
both movies are amazing but Pans labirynth is more visionary and thers nothing like it while there are lots of post apocalyptic movies similar to children of men
Whereas it didn't win Best Foreign Language Film it did win other Oscars. Even if Drive My Car doesn't win Best Foriegn Language Film i hope it wins other categories
Somebody else should stop making assumptions. The film was fantastic but if you saw Children of Men, you'd realize how much more powerful the cinematography is.

Sadly it didn't even win foreign language film..😔
@@rambunctiousrohan and that was unfair since it deserved it

he could've won the previous year, but in 2007 he was up against Scorsese... so it'd be a tough choice
When Guillermo Navarro was looking for an agent, the top one in Hollywood told him: “why do I need a Mexican when I already have a gardener?” I guess this Oscar is the best middle finger Navarro can give to that man.
Pan's Labyrinth has great cinematography.

Pans Labyrinth was so beautiful. What a masterpiece. The story is amazing I will never forget it for the rest of my life. Thank you Mr Del Toro
I want the reason why a movie so perfect, so sensible and so beautiful like Pan's Labyrinth wasn't nominated for Best Picture.
Por qué la academia no sabe valorar lo que es una verdadera obra maestra y prefiere premiar otras porquerías de peliculas
THAT MOVIE MADE ME CRY MY EYEBALLS OUT
Yes😭

After Lubezki's won three times in a row, I think is safe to say that Navarro deserved this
But he didn’t win three times before this year. Also, just because someone wins multiple times doesn’t mean someone else deserved it.
Guillermo Navarro, Emmanuel Lubezki, Rodrigo Prieto... vaya que si en México tenemos a 3 de los 10 mejores cinefotógrafos del mundo.
También tres de los mejores 10 directores en mi opinión 👌
This year the award was given to Guillermo del Toro, Best Director and Best Picture
Wow!!! All amazing movie nominations. Great year for cinematography.
Pan’s Labyrinth is a one finest movie! Should have won best picture!
Pan's Labyrinth - still one of the most remarkable films of the 21st century.
THIS WAS THE BEST FILM OF THE YEAR...OSCAR HAS LOST ALL ITS VALUE :o
Para ti, pero no para algunos...
Pan's labyrinth is a much more artistic film than people think and its way better than departed
sanch Sanchayan Not jut Pans Labyrinth, Alfonso Cuaron's masterpiece Children of Men was also a far far better film than the Departed.
seriously.. But this was too special...

Just watched Pans labyrinth.. Amazing movie
This list should have been:
Pan’s Labyrinth
The Illusionist
The Prestige
Children of Men
Apocalypto
this is a tough one since Emmanuel Lubezki's work is all-time material, but the work in Pan's labyritnh is astonishing
Thanks for giving us this masterpiece and that background score music
Iñarritu was there
Saul Melchor Also Alfonso Cuaron
Saul Melchor I can't see him. Where?

Sunsh Tine all three are frends
And they say theres no mexicans in the academy
This is why Emmanuel Lubezki won three times in a row
The Prestige, Pan´s Labyrinth, Children of Men... All of them monsters of cinematography. A hard year in the category.
THIS IS 100% DESERVED.
Take a shot each time Gwyneth says "Cinematographer"
And a well deserved win. I think it should've been movie of the year.
I think the winner in this category should have been a film that shamefully didn't even get nominated: "Letters From Iwo Jima"!
Desde Arequipa ....Me encanta tus historias ..... Guillermo del toro ....eres lo máximo
Emmanuel Lubezki for Gravity, fuck yeah!!
well deserved such a great film
Del Toro looks so proud.. That was a wonderful moment

Emmanuel Lubezki is definitely gonna win for Gravity.
Pan's Labyrinth in a flawless film and one of .y personal favorites, but Children of Men (IMO) should have won this award.

Yes. I don't make statements without being able to back myself up.
"The Black Dahlia" really was best of the year. Then "Children of Men."

I have always wondered what the tune that Gwyneth walks out to is called. They always play it at the oscars.
Can u tell ??
I just love it when a category like Cinematography has no Best Picture nominees.
This is the first oscar and nomination of guillermo navarro and maybe the last one
For me this list should have been:
Pan's Labyrinth
The Prestige
The Illusionist
Children of Men
A Scanner Darkly
And give the Oscar to Children of Men.
