I can get Arches Paper for 14.00 a pak at Hobby Lobby using their 40% off coupon! I buy it and cut each sheet into four. It’s soooooo true that the paper u use makes all the difference! As a beginner, I practice on Canson Watercolor Paper and only do a final painting on Arches.
Thank you for your review. I was not surprised by the paper but was by the paint. I have one of the more normal priced ones. Not sure of the brand but bought on Amazon. It's okay for sketchbooks. Whenever I used it, kept the fans separated until dry. There has been No cracking. I thought I would use it more for plein air but after I got a pocket palette from Art Toolkit, have no desire to take the fan set out.
Thanks for the additional insight. I agree even if the pans didn’t crack I would probably not take the fan pallet out for plein air painting either. I found the fan pallet setup a bit frustrating.
Hi! I have a similar set of 42 colours fan palette but from the brand Superior. I always though that all these brands were made by the same manufacture, but now I see yours it's not the same as mine 🤷. I got my set one year ago from Aliexpress and they never cracked and they behave like the Pretty Excellent set, I like it very much for sketching and practicing.
Thanks for the review, esp about the fan pallet. I know they're kind of popular now. It looks nice, the price is good, but it is basically crap, & that is good to know.. Might try that white Sharpie, too.
That's unfortunate about the fan pallete. I also bought it a couple months ago cus i did see it all over and was curious. I did try to look up more info on it, but it's like it doesn't exist anywhere online except at Walmart. Not even Royal & Lagnickel's website. I do wonder if mine ever starts cracking, i can crush it and re-use with more binder.
That Grumbacher paper was sooooo bad to me. It’s almost like it had some sort of wax coating on it. I’m using it as a Creative Journal, collaging and such. The Canson XL Watercolor Pads are better to me, I use those for practice all of the time. I use the Canson Mixed Media Pads for practice as well. You did a great job with the Grumbacher Pad. Maybe I will try my watercolor crayons with it.
def supplies more for young kids who generally wont care about its problems ASDA is our Walmart, use to be owned by them but i dont think they are any more and only a few stores are as big as they are there
Grumbacher paper is great for acrylics
It needs to be soaked for about 10 minutes & dried as a prep so the paint behaves properly. There's videos on prepping sized paper.

In my country 14.00 is a lot (guessing you meant dollars)

Completely agree. I think the Canson XL are better than these.
So interesting. I love Grumbacher watercolor paper & hate Canson xl watercolor & mixed media paper. They reacted the opposite for me.
I can't believe it doesn't have ultramarine or lemon yellow, i though they were in every set. I'm going for the 42 color pan-fan.
Great video but I couldn’t get over the clicking noise I’m not sure if it was your mic or you click your mouth after each sentence

I bought that paper and didn’t like it at all. Canson is much better!
