...anyways, it's probably because he's normally harmless but can flip into violence. It's at least superficially similar with whatever male fascination there is with the "yandere" trope, but whereas that comes from a fascination with a woman that's openly devoted to them _to the point of_ committing violence for their sake (and as such, the violence against romantic contenders is only meant to emphasize the reality of that devotion), I'm fairly confident that women put _direct value_ on such a man's violence potential: he's capable of violence, and ideally, he'd use that violence to protect her-- which also accordingly has the effect of making her feel "precious".
That he's normally a doormat doesn't just engender the feeling of "gap moe", but also probably signals that his lapses into violence are predictable and even controlled.
tl;dr he's a kind of man that's talked about when girls say "get you a man that can do both".

Andrew and Ashley used her so that they could survive, too. Bimbo tried to kill Andrew with a nail gun, so he got her first instead.
Perhaps if she wasn't such a thot and happy with her circumstances, I could spare her some sympathy. But then she would have tried to escape with them, and none of that would have happened. Perhaps Ashley would have killed her in yandere mode, and then they would have done something wrong in part 1, but that didn't happen.
