    I'm learning so much from your channel. Thanks to you I no longer feel crazy. I have a Rheumatologist BUT he dismisses all of my symptoms. He says it's not Sjogren's causing them. My face stays beet red, I have interstitial lung disease, burning in my lips and so on but he says none of them are due to Sjogren's. I also asked him about diet recommendations and he said, "Your body is going to do what it's going to do regardless of what you eat." 🙄 I'm currently trying to find a new rheumatologist.

      I'm glad to hear that you're finding the channel helpful. I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing dismissive behavior from your current rheumatologist. It's important to have a physician who listens to and takes your concerns seriously.
      Sjogren's syndrome is a complex autoimmune disorder that can affect various parts of the body, including the eyes, mouth, skin, and lungs. It's important to work with a rheumatologist who has experience in diagnosing and treating Sjogren's syndrome, as it can be challenging to diagnose.
      You may want to consider seeking a second opinion from another rheumatologist who specializes in Sjogren's syndrome or autoimmune disorders in general.
      Regarding diet recommendations, while it's true that diet alone may not cure or prevent Sjogren's syndrome, a healthy diet can help improve overall health and may help manage certain symptoms. It may be helpful to consult with a registered dietitian who can provide guidance on a healthy diet that meets your specific needs and goals.
      In summary, it's important to advocate for yourself and find a rheumatologist who listens to and addresses your concerns. Don't hesitate to seek a second opinion to ensure that you're receiving the best possible care.

    I have Sjogren's and basically follow this diet. I'm lucky in that on some days I can have an orange or a squeeze of lemon on my fish. And some days I can enjoy a small amount of tomato or use tomato paste in cooking.
    One thing some people don't know about tears...it's not just that the quantity of tear film is reduced in Sjogren's it is also the quality. I said to my eye doctor, "but, I can cry tears..." He replied, "yes, but you cry tears with a little salt that are mostly water; they don't have enough fatty oils". That's why we need to use frequent high quality eye drops.

Instead I am shuffled around to cardio, pulmonary and osteo’s. I’ve avoided the dermatologist. I’m tired of it all! And I’m tired of doing their job and tired of trying to figure it out myself. Auto immune diseases are rampant on both sides of my family. My sister passed from the side effects of ( opiate addiction) of sever rheumatoid arthritis. Finally a P.A. & a neighbor surgeon figured out simultaneously what was wrong with me. And don't allow yourself to be demeaned in any way! After moving to another city, I found a D.O. in the Adventist Health system. They believe in having your primary doctor keep all your health team aware of what the others are doing, communicating and actually working together. This is working so much better.
      One thing I started doing - if a doctor isn't aware or up to date on any health item (vitamin D, omega 3s, sjogren's), I look up, print and bring them 3 peer reviewed papers on the subject.

    I definitely need to learn more about this! I was referred to a rheumatologist in Irvine 30 years ago due to my chronic fatigue symptoms. She was very expensive, did one blood test on me that came back negative, and totally dismissed me as a patient. Her parting advice was that I needed to eat more pickles. I was young and desperate in those days and my experience with her was devastating! I slipped in to quite a depression for a while. 30+ years later I've still never received much medical help despite spending tens of thousands of dollars. I've picked up little helpful interventions here or there and learned to live with it the best I could. These dietary recommendations are ones I already follow and definitely help!

Raynauds at 15 yrs old, followed by graves disease. I have had to monitor my energy all the time. At times i felt everything i ate or did made me so tired and the doctors had no real answers. I have learned much along the way. Dry mouth started a few months ago and this week the dry eyes. I eat pretty clean but i guess there is always room for improvement. God bless.

    • @rheumatologistoncall
      @rheumatologistoncall  Рік тому +1

      It is possible to have symptoms of Sjogren's syndrome even if your blood work falls within the normal range. In some cases, blood tests for Sjogren's may be negative despite having symptoms of the condition.
      Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disorder that can affect various organs and systems in the body, and can cause symptoms such as dry eyes, dry mouth, joint pain, and fatigue. Diagnosis of Sjogren's syndrome typically involves a combination of symptoms, physical examination, and laboratory tests.
      In addition to blood tests, diagnostic tests for Sjogren's syndrome may include an eye exam, a biopsy of the salivary glands, and imaging tests.

      Certain foods can worsen the symptoms of the condition, while others may help alleviate them. Oranges are generally considered to be a healthy food due to their high vitamin C content, but they may not be suitable for individuals with Sjogren's syndrome because they can be acidic and may irritate the mouth and throat.

But i have never had a flare involving muscle aches and joint aches of ALL my joints- including facial muscles and jaw. Also headache and chills, but no fever. Temp actually < normal.
