  • We got a call for an Ford F250 Powerstroke diesel stuck in the sand at sand hollow. Apparently the auto locking hubs had quit working, so they only had 2wd.
    With a couple of good pulls on the Yankum rope we were able to pull it free!
    Next we got a call for a Chevy Tahoe that was stuck in the sand near Ashcreek Reservoir.
    It was only 2wd so it's pretty easy to get stuck in sand.
    After a couple of beard strokes, Matt came up with a plan and we pulled it right out!

      I had just rebuilt the old hubs on my 67 F100 4x4...you know...Dana 44 in the front and 9 inch in the rear, Detroit Lockers at both ends on 33's(nothing huge)...good stuff right?! We went four wheeling one day, nothing abusing. Truck did real good. About 4 months later driving to work in about 6 inch of snow/ice and I was sliding around. So pulled over and locked the hubs in and took off. I was still sliding around. Somewhere between the offroad day and slowday the hub broke...for no reason I know of.
      In the end I got rid of those old and weak(but rebuilt)hubs and upgrade the whole front with big "Stainless Steel" slotted rotors , big dual piston calipers and Premium Gold Warn Hubs. SOOO much better now.

    Had auto hubs on my '91 Trooper. Thought they were great. Indeed very strong. Stripped the splines off one CV and blew up another. Got stuck too many times because they were a mechanical setup (unlocks in reverse, only locks when rolling forward).
    Went to manuals and I've destroyed one hub but never got stuck or had to replace a cv since. 👍🤙

    Back in '80s I took a GMC Jimmy to a place called Madain Salah in Saudi Arabia following the old Hejaz railway that Lawrence of Arabia was famous for blowing up in WW I. Miles from anywhere! A Land Rover in the party had sand tires; and it was amazing how it just floated over loose sand. However, the sharp rocks gave it flat after flat. I nearly got stuck in deep sand, but my co-pilot just yelled "keep on the gas - we're still moving!" Sure enough, all four wheels just slowly churned the Jimmy forward until we reached hard ground. I thought the auto trans would be a liability- but it allowed the power to be rationed to the wheels so they wouldn't spin and dig in. Memorable trip!

    What are your thoughts on the new Ford Bronco?

    • @jamesmoore3346
      @jamesmoore3346 4 роки тому +1

      I have'nt really gotten down to research the drive trains on the new bronco but just the styling alone, I'd say they nailed it. One of the best 'resto's' I've seen. Man, that thing looks GOOD! If they got the power part as well as they did the looks then I want one! I was never much of a ford guy but seeing as how all the suv's out there are starting to look like they came out the same factory, like their from cookie cutter cars, if I was to go lookin to buy a new car then the bronco definatly be one I'd be looking at hard. Do you anything about the motor or drive line packages they going to offer for them? I heard they were going to use the ranger platform, if so then they got a good machine. I love the styling, it looks like they def borrowed from the original design and upgraded it to current times. It also looks like a bit of the old international scout was used too. I can see if its got a descent V-6 motor then yeah, I would have to drive one. Good looking machine, loved the old broncos, ford has to make the new one as badazz as the old one, lol.heard the msrp was going to be around 28-32K, whats your take on it.
