The most tragic thing of all was that it was Vautier's comeback that weekend, and he had a stunning performance up until that crash. He led a lot of Laps and was a front runner the whole time, but he didn't get another shot at indycar afterwards...
Bell and Tracy are the best American racing analysts by miles. So experienced and knowledgeable in all forms of motorsport and it shows in their commentary. Broke down what happened perfectly.
That's a tough situation to be in. If I was going to point the finger of blame anywhere it would have to go to Tony Kanaan's spotter for not being quick enough telling him there was another car coming up on the outside to make it three wide and also to Aleshin for not dropping back getting so close to the corner. On ANY track you really don't want to be the person hung out on the outside around a corner, it almost never works out well...
@9:36 A fair analysis from Bell and Tracy followed by a RHR's comment that moves were "being made too late into the corner". Interesting that the three cars directly in front of Kanaan took the same line into turn 3.
To all those complaining, look up the Isle of Man TT. MULTIPLE die every year. 16 on that track over the last 5 years alone Yet it gets millions of youtube views and pretty much universal praise. Why does oval racing get all the hate? 16 deaths in IndyCar takes you back to 1968
Usually on an indycar racing video on an oval in the comments there's always wannabe F1 fans making fun of the ovals because they're ovals and these fans have nothing better to do. If they were real F1 fans they would respect other forms of motor sport. Also these wannabe fans say that all tracks are ovals which proofed they don't do their research before commenting. I'm glad they're not here
Kanaan and the spotter were totally at fault for that wreck. Wrecked alot of great cars then. Felt terrible for the 18 car he was having a hell of a race until that
and for once Indycar flew a red for a big one instead of lots of laps under yellow (and the 3rd in 4 races, Yep i keeping count here) can you praise indycar here everyone and not moan about the yellow flag ending.
Uhm. Guys... all 3 drivers were at fault. Kanaan should't have moved up, Hinchcliff shouldn't have moved down, & Aleshin sure as hell shouldn't have made it 3 wide or come down. If anything it's mostly Aleshin's fault for crowding both drivers. If he wasn't there, Hinchcliff would have been able to move up away from Kanaan when he was preparing to go into the corner.
Fucking Kanaan man. Couldn't hold his lane at all when he knew he had cars outside. I don't care what anyone says, he did that shit on purpose... TWICE!
Yeah......because Kanaan totally knew they were 3 wide..suuure..........................grow a brain you moron, the car on the outside caused this wreck.
Everyone... This is how they race speedways. It does not help competition with a track that cannot do three wide and was bad for passing on two wide. The big one is going to happen with this. As for the incident itself. I place equal blame on TK and Hinchcliffes' teammate Aleshin for this incident. Above all I'm glad nobody got hurt and can continue racing. Edit: Indycar needs to work on improving the drivers ability in car to determine who's where.
I dont watch this shit... So whats up with those 8 segment LED displays? I thought it was car numbers at first then saw numbers on the back of one... STILL CONFUSED!
CPWindsorsub wouldn't be any faster than Indy just more room if this Texas race doesn't kill anybody it couldn't be much worse and there's a road course
sad part is its a slower track than previous years. Turn 1 and 2 are not as steep and drivers have to get off the gas to keep the cars on track now. They used to be able to go full throttle the entire way around TxMS. The Change was literally made to make the track safer and slower.
Tony Kanaan is stupid, first he got in front of Alexander Rossi earlier, and he made Alexander touch wheels, and he crashed out. Now, Tony Kanaan did the same thing all over again, this time, he made 8 cars crash out in the same area when he got into James Hinchcliffe and he did it again! he made 2 dumb moves. And that's why all 8 drivers are not very happy about Tony Kanaan, including Dale Coyne.
TxMS was redesigned/reconstructed this past summer to help slow it down. Texas has always been a fast track. To the point that they banked the turns steeper than most (in it's previous re-design)to allow for the cars to stay down full gas. So the redesign actually re-pitched 1 and 2 to a shallower angle. What this did was effectively force drivers to lift off and slow them down going into 1 and 2. This was not the tracks fault. This was two drivers pinching a third on the fastest section of track and causing him to lose control of his car. Kanan moved an entire lane and a half up. If you do that at any track it will likely cause a crash. And considering Kanan did that same move with his teammate recently on a different track and it had a similar result, it isn't the track. I cycling if you deviate from your line as bad as Kanan did for no reason like he did you get DQ. I think a lot of these crashes could be avoided if you had a rule similar than that. If you can't hold a clean race line then you are removed from the race. In Terms of Wheldon they did learn. Wheldon's crash was caused by another full-speed all the time track with a field that was way to huge for the track. Unlike Texas that track really isnt suitable to race three wide. In Wheldon's crash there were near misses from lap 2 on and racing 3 wide from the start. Which had been uncommon for that track. We don't see fields that big on tracks that narrow anymore. Texas is plenty wide. And you have to remember at this is an inherently dangerous sport due to risk of crashes. It's something these drivers know going into it. They trust that adequate protection has been put into place, but crashes happen. At least now we don't see the huge numbers of driver and fan deaths that we used to see in early motorsports.
The most tragic thing of all was that it was Vautier's comeback that weekend, and he had a stunning performance up until that crash. He led a lot of Laps and was a front runner the whole time, but he didn't get another shot at indycar afterwards...
Thank God that was the biggest tragedy.
Here after he got a shot at Detroit super randomly and did alright
"I think that's adorable" - Hinchcliffe, 2017. My man.
It was a great response -- and on-point to boot.

21:48 wow, look how big his eyes get
Probably fearing for his life... I would too if I were running 200mph without a rollcage.

Timothy Peters flipping last night in Trucks and now this tonight. A scary wrecks in both series this weekend.
Grand Yee Agreed
And both triggered a red flag.
The Cup Series has also had the Big One at Texas a few times (2010 and 2020).
@9:36 A fair analysis from Bell and Tracy followed by a RHR's comment that moves were "being made too late into the corner". Interesting that the three cars directly in front of Kanaan took the same line into turn 3.
Rip my boy Hinchcliffe, no where to go.
Negevs are for pros >:[

Kanaan unlocked his inner Maldonado that day 😂

Poor Dale Coyne. He's had so much equipment torn up in the last month
David Stanford On the bright side...Ed Jones is driving like he belongs in indycar...
David Stanford I bet ed jones will land a gig with a big time team next season.
Nick B Chip Ganassi has signed him so he has can't wait to see what he can do next y
*year

Thanks for the UL!
Wow, big ass sparks when those magnesium rims strike the wall.
The action begins at a very unlucky 0:13.
Power all the way baby!
Yep, I was there pit exit row45, it was a crash fest all night! Thought I was watching an iracing race, lol.. Sato crash was insane too...oh well...
The #NOPE is strong in this race. All it took was one mistake while stacking it up.
Whoa!
Should go back to Milwaukee .-.
drivers complain about auto club but not texas, unbelievable, texas is smaller then auto club

On the comments No body dissing the canaan 🙄
Damn
Fucking Kanaan man. Couldn't hold his lane at all when he knew he had cars outside. I don't care what anyone says, he did that shit on purpose... TWICE!
This track should be removed for next year. Too dangerous.
You are nuts!
Yeah......because Kanaan totally knew they were 3 wide..suuure..........................grow a brain you moron, the car on the outside caused this wreck.
They have spotter's telling them 24/7 what's around them so fuck off with that shit.
youre too dangerous!!!
its a he said she said accident coyne had every right to be upset
I would love to see these cars on the Austin F1 track instead.
Ed Mathews I would love to see that but i wonder if there is anything keeping indy from racing there because of F1.
vicbjr Indy can't run at COTA because TMS has the "rights" to indy in Texas
Zachatilla weeeelll, ur wrong. Btw I’m here after IndyCar started racing @ COTA
anyone went to this race? I did

alch3myau They show what position the driver is in. It's more of a feature for the spectators at the track than a TV audience.
alch3myau they alot show when a driver is on tbe push to pass.. and show pit stop times...
Thousands of dollars in damage!
Millions
Very unusual behavior for TK.
Pinchcliffe.
So does 100 laps make up for a big circle track? I guess so..
What the fuck was Kanaan thinking? This is a mess...
Wish they would run Daytona
never gonna happen
Erik Zarins probably not but it would be interesting
Someone would die at Daytona.
CPWindsorsub wouldn't be any faster than Indy just more room if this Texas race doesn't kill anybody it couldn't be much worse and there's a road course
Drew Davis imagine them at Talladega
When Talladega meets IndyCar
Rickard Geiger NO
BASICALLY SUICIDE
Jt Poole Well its a track no stranger to big wrecks

Yea but not for cars going 235
Ditch those stupid side pods and we would have less of those types of incidents.
2018 man

"tank slapper" ?? WTF?
This isn't a motorcycle race for fucks sake.
Its a term used when a car slides back and forth.....no need to be a dick.
I've always hated this track. IIRL should remove this track from the schedule and replace it with Chicaqgoland.
BigSleepyOx go back to milwaukee
this is why IndyCar on 1.5 mile tracks is stupid...
Too fast with no chance to react. You'd think they would learn after Wheldon.

killer32095 Vegas was too narrow for that many cars...
the Indy car race have to be ban from the sports , what is different this car race & NASCAR , it's same less safety ,,,
Sarcasm.
Now you know why none of these drivers in Indycar drive in F1....amautre driving skills at best, looking at this crash.....
This track should be removed for next year. Too dangerous.
