- I was asked by some viewers to try out the new Gillette Sensor 3 Sensitive Razor and while looking to order one off the internet, I found they also have a new version of my favorite cartridge razor The Sensor Excel.
I want to see how this new version compares with the original.
Note, the new cartridges do fit in the original model. I had the cartridge upside down.

The Sensor was my razor in college. It's the razor that helped me realize how much i enjoyed shaving. Will definitely have to give it a go.

The Sensor was my first razor. I bought one out of nostalgia, and it's still great.
I actually use the Sensor or Atra quite often for getting around my ears as a head shaver. Personna sells Atra cartridges for less than their DE blades ($15/100). My '77 Atra is more sturdy than my '77 black beauty, and both are more sturdy than my '77 back, knees, and shoulders!

I missed you Ken, please enhance the frequency of your videos!!! You see how cheaper made are the newer products nowadays compare what they were in the past. For instance the car toys I was playing as a kid back in the 80s were robust with metal parts, now they're all plastic and cheap.
Like you I love proraso green my first decent soap when started, never had a bad shave using it. And as far the lather goes do as you like.

For my quick shave, it's the Gillette Mach 3. Good feel; and the blades do well. Plus, the Mach 3 was given to us in the Military. I got comfortable with the performance from the Mach 3 Razor. Against the grain? Well, my skin is too sensitive for that, but with a DE razor I can. For the quick, down and dirty, it's the Gillette Mach 3.

I have one of the original Sensor shavers, I liked it very much - but I grew tired of the cartridges ever increasing expense - so, back to the ol' reliable "D.E." for me. And, my usual sapone - the green Proraso. I've yet to try their Proraso after shave, but am eager to.

Great one, Ken! I still believe both handles are compatible with all the Sensor blades, no matter old or new. I think in some markets they sell Sensor Excel with the new handle, the same as in this video. Some even provide both 2 and 3 blades cartridges together.
I tried again, and you are right. The blades do fit new and old. I must have had the blade upside down
Great shave. My nearest Walgreens sells the Atra Plus and Sensor cartridges, though the handles have been discontinued for a while now. Have a good one!

These Gillettes are available in supermarkets in Australia for $7.99 with only one blade included I use mine now and again.

Hey Ken! Just a follow up, the blades are interchangeable! The new Sensor's blade fits the old handle, the vintage cartridges fit the new handle. You can use either cartridge on either handle! I agree, the new handle is too light! They need to add some weight.

@kensurfs Yes, I figured you did. The locking mechanisms are the same on both handles! Hang onto that old handle though, it's worth much nowadays!

Hey Ken! I still have both my original Sensor and Sensor Excel razor from 1989 and 1993 respectively. I also have both in unopened packaging. I also have several of each on those original handles. They are very pricey, even used ones, on ebay!! I purchased that new one. It's mostly plastic which reduces the weight significantly. I find that it shaves very good though. I haven't seen where I could purchase replacement blades. I am under the impression ebay or Amazon would have them. I'll have to do my research. Thanks for reviewing this new Sensor! JimG. P.s. The new Sensor fit my vintage cartridges just fine! Are you sure you didn't try to install an old cartridge upside down? Let me know.

I am most fond of the Gillette Skin Guard on a metal travel handle by Parker. This has only 2 blades and they are spaced so as to not have hysteresis. Parker also makes a short metal travel handle for Mach 3 carts that’s my 2nd choice for a carry-onable razor.

I just got this razor from eBay. I agree the handle is too light but it shaves well. I normally use a DE but this is good for a quick shave.

The Sensor Excel was the cartridge I used just before I went to SE and DE razors. I liked the Excel 3 cartridge blades way better than the Mach 3

It's a little different Ken I mean I prefer the New blades instead of the old. I have two of them because one I didn't open and kept it for display and one I use sometimes when I am in a hurry

Would be cool if, one of these days, you could make a video comparing the vintage Sensor Excel and the Astra. Recently I spent almost 90 dollars in a new-old stock Contour Plus (which I think is almost the same as the Astra with a full metallic handle) because my first ever razor was a beaten up Contour Plus I inherited from my father, then switched to Mach 3 (which is quite nice but blades are overly expensive and can't always get "aftermarket" cartridges on the supermarkets) and I would like to know if worths it to spend 60 dollars or more in a vintage Sensor Excel or not. I use safety razors too but most days you just don't have the time to do it properly - especially when it is 4 or 5 am and you have to go work - and cartridges are the way to go. Thank you very much.
I’ll try. This new model and old model take that new and old blades. The vintage handle is pretty cool though. Keep an eye out for a good price. They pop up sometimes on eBay

Yes, the Excel vintage handle is a beauty and I might buy one in the future just to have it, but first I think I will get a nice adjustable DE razor...just need to make my mind about which one to get, I want a "one and done" kind of deal, a Firefighter salary does not stretch to be collecting a lot of razors at this point of my life (I have about 13 of them already).
Still have my Excel since I was a kid wished I could get some carts to test it for the cart I've been using a atra plus from qtr 4 1990 birth year razor with some top care atra cart when I don't feel like using a one blade also do like my proraso green products

which razor gives you a closer shave Sensor 3 or MACH 3 ? and between excel and sensor 3 which one are closer? by the way I think that the Trac II give me closer shave more than Sensor Excel. Try the TRAC II

the old Gillette cartridges for sensor excel and mach 3 blades were sharper and smooth. the newer refills carts are blunter n rough idk if Gillette does it on purpose for their flag ship 5 blade to appear sharper and smoother
