Very true and I think that's the case (minus the last part). It takes a little more effort to find the right recruits for ND. Freeman puts in that work and it shows in the results, it also shows rn that recruiting in Baton Rouge will always result in getting some great talent

Can you guys PLEASE have this guy back on the show??? As a ND fan, I can tell you that practically every ND beat writer and pundit bashed BK on the way out and cheer-leaded everything Freeman said or did in the offseason. I have nothing against Freeman, he seems like a really great guy and could have been a good coach if he had more experience. His experience consists of 1 year as a power 5 coordinator! This writer should have to face tough questions for his very strong takes! In my job, if I told my clients that it is a good thing that you are losing blue chip products because this new and improved product will be way better, and then it failed miserably, I would have to be held accountable. PLEASE hold his guy accountable! It would make good entertainment as well to see him try to deflect from his horrible predictions.

@ Freeman has more than exceeded all expectations. I have no problem saying I was wrong. His performance post NIU might be the biggest coaching turnaround I have ever seen. Freeman should be coach of the year especially when you consider the injuries. I still think Driskell’s BK takes are way over the top. BK was quite successful at ND, specifically post 2016. He never won the big one, but saved the program. Driskell admitted that it’s personal between him and BK. With that said, Driskell can take a victory lap and I was certainly wrong about Freeman.

The problem Driskell had with Kelly was his unwellness to look in the mirror and make the changes needed to win the big one or hell even an NY6 major bowl(which Kelly hasn't done in his FBS career). Kelly's ego was Driskell's biggest problem while treating former players and throwing current players under the bus while he was at Notre Dame. Kelly was a colossal prick, did he win the games he was suppose to, sure, but in his 12 years he only learn how to keep the big games close.

Lol... Bryan Driskell has been very critical of BK for many years now. Whether it was keeping BVG as ND's DC when everyone except BK knew that BVG was a terrible DC. You'll see he keeps assistant coaches for far too long even when they aren't getting the job done. He also criticized his handling of the QBs, just wait and see on that one. Just to name a few. He is talking about consistently beating those teams. What's LSU's record since 2019? Brian Kelly did a great job creating more with less. Notre Dame is not recruiting at the same level as teams in the SEC. Notre Dame was up and down at best for decades prior to Kelly. Brian Kelly brought Notre Dame back into the conversation as one of the best teams year in and year out. He did not win a title but he had them there. He created the platform for success just like Mark Richt did at Georgia. If Notre Dame goes on to win a title some of that goes back to the culture he brought back. Notre Dame fought like hell against Georgia even at home with more Georgia fans in the stands. Being unappreciative towards the one coach in decades that left Notre Dame better than he found them is so disrespectful. If this is the attitude of most Notre Dame fans then Brian Kelly should have left years ago.

Its coaching, all the great players from the south dont all go to Alabama or Clemson, it's a matter of acamedics also, not all the kids from the south or from anywhere else can handle the academics at Notre Dame or a school like Stanford

I think a good way of simplifying this is that BK could have recruited better at ND but he didn’t want to put in the work and if he thinks going to LSU means you don’t have to recruit then he is grossly misjudging. He will get better players but the competition is a lot higher so I think that is a push. Also another thing is BK was feared by beat writers so no one questioned him. IMO that won’t happen in Baton Rogue. So we’ll see how he likes being questioned. As a Notre Dame fan I was ready for him to move on because I think he did all he was willing to do. Anyone that denies BK got ND to a much better place is just a hater. The biggest thing for LSU fans is to realize is that BK will win 10 games a year no doubt but will he put in the work to get over Bama and UGA?
The thing you have to remember about ND recruiting is that they have a MUCH smaller talent pool to get players bc of the higher academic standards required. They are basically recruiting from the same pool as schools like Stanford and Northwestern. He doesnt have to deal with that high of academic standard at LSU so his recruiting pool is pretty endless.

It's hard to say if 10 games a year is a definite. You cannot sleep on any team in the SEC or even the Big 12. Teams like Texas A&M can also pounce (no pun intended) on you. Kelly is going to have to work a little bit harder.
You are exactly right. It is a push. Brian Kelly has a ceiling of 10-12 wins every season, then getting smoked in the postseason. He will recruit well enough to achieve that.

No. Because it's the same idea that ohh you have a 5-10 recruiting class shouldn't you beat the top 5. Well if you were 7th in recruiting last year you were l, points wise, how they score the rankings, you were closer to 23rd in the country than 2nd.
So the guy brought up two very good points. 1. That sometimes high talent players are high academic guys. 2. Notre Dame did have a lot of talent for the past decade. He then completely forgets LSU doesn't have to go outside of its own state to find elite talent. Notre Dame meanwhile hasn't been "THE" Notre Dame since the 80s... Nick Saban left LSU for the NFL though. He also left there to go to an SEC opponent in our division. Kelly left for greener college pastures in a completely different part of the country. Nick Saban was also Croatian-Catholic background, Kelly from an Irish-Catholic background. South Louisiana is geographically South but culturally, it is quite Catholic given its French heritage and large numbers of Irish, Italians and Bavarian Germans who are traditional Catholic ethnic groups. Saban culturally fit in Baton Rouge quite well and Kelly will as well.

LSU should pass up ND in the recruiting rankings when all is said and done. LSU has more meat left on the bone for big recruits leaning their way. ND really doesn't have many more big recruits to pad their ranking. Of course this is assuming there's no big decommits or anything like that which can happen. ND's recruiting ranking will probably end up 6-7 and LSU should be 3-5.
I disagree. The entire staff, outside of 1 person (Tommy Rees), is filled with relentless recruiters. That wasn't the case when Kelly was at ND. Additionally, the 2024 class should be much better than the 2023 class. CJ Carr, the 5* QB commit, is close with several blue chip prospects, including Ryan Wingo, the #1 WR. Additionally, ND has several tie-ins with bluechip prospects. Quite a few of them have had family and close friends/HS teammates play for/recently commit to ND. They lead for at least 3 5* players (Ryan Wingo, Justin Scott, and Peyton Woodyard), and might even be the favorite for Elijah Rushing. Guerby Lambert, the #1 OT, is also a ND lean. The top 3 kids in Indiana (all top 150 recruits) are all likely to end up at ND, including Ian Moore, who despite having a Ohio State offer, is a ND fan and is waiting for a ND offer which he should get during/after the season.
@@mattmccarthy9067 leans and being the front runner mean nothing until NSD happens. It takes 3-4 years consecutive of top 5 classes to be competing for national championships. If it were as easy as getting one great class anyone could do it. ND puts massive restrictions on themselves and aside from the school there’s really nothing in south bend. We shall see where the chips fall but my money is they will be in the same position they are now for the long term. Maybe one day you guys can join the rest of the conference world and play a truly difficult schedule. A lot easier to think you’re great when you have a an easy schedule and don’t play conference champ games.

0:30- disagree with gameday coaching as an overrated aspect. I get what he's saying- and certainly preparation is as if not more important. But I don't like minimizing gameday coaching. Urban Meyer was great on Saturday. John Cooper, not so much. I never saw this guy before but right away I can tell he's true blue Irish fan(1:20). Lose a game or don't win by enough and the fanbase is ready to bench the QB, fire the coach, and hang the leprechuan. But he really showed his colors when discussing the Michigan rivalry (3:57). Kelly was an outstanding coach as was Jeff Quinn. However Kelly hired some lousy assistants who were former players that were lazy recruiters such as Autry Denson and Todd Light and these guys recruited NOBODY so how can you win a championship

Very true and I think that's the case (minus the last part). It takes a little more effort to find the right recruits for ND. Freeman puts in that work and it shows in the results, it also shows rn that recruiting in Baton Rouge will always result in getting some great talent

Can you guys PLEASE have this guy back on the show??? As a ND fan, I can tell you that practically every ND beat writer and pundit bashed BK on the way out and cheer-leaded everything Freeman said or did in the offseason. I have nothing against Freeman, he seems like a really great guy and could have been a good coach if he had more experience. His experience consists of 1 year as a power 5 coordinator! This writer should have to face tough questions for his very strong takes! In my job, if I told my clients that it is a good thing that you are losing blue chip products because this new and improved product will be way better, and then it failed miserably, I would have to be held accountable. PLEASE hold his guy accountable! It would make good entertainment as well to see him try to deflect from his horrible predictions.

@ Freeman has more than exceeded all expectations. I have no problem saying I was wrong. His performance post NIU might be the biggest coaching turnaround I have ever seen. Freeman should be coach of the year especially when you consider the injuries.
I still think Driskell’s BK takes are way over the top. BK was quite successful at ND, specifically post 2016. He never won the big one, but saved the program. Driskell admitted that it’s personal between him and BK.
With that said, Driskell can take a victory lap and I was certainly wrong about Freeman.

The problem Driskell had with Kelly was his unwellness to look in the mirror and make the changes needed to win the big one or hell even an NY6 major bowl(which Kelly hasn't done in his FBS career). Kelly was a colossal prick, did he win the games he was suppose to, sure, but in his 12 years he only learn how to keep the big games close.

The jury is still out on Freeman. He is a better recruiter so far, but we will see if he can prepare ND for the big games better than Kelly did. We will see if he can get his coaches to develop the players as well. The hope is, he is similar to Kirby Smart for Georgia. They had plateaued under Richt and Kirby took the program to the next level.

Brian Kelly did a great job creating more with less. Notre Dame is not recruiting at the same level as teams in the SEC. Notre Dame was up and down at best for decades prior to Kelly. Brian Kelly brought Notre Dame back into the conversation as one of the best teams year in and year out. He did not win a title but he had them there. He created the platform for success just like Mark Richt did at Georgia. If Notre Dame goes on to win a title some of that goes back to the culture he brought back. Notre Dame fought like hell against Georgia even at home with more Georgia fans in the stands. Being unappreciative towards the one coach in decades that left Notre Dame better than he found them is so disrespectful. If this is the attitude of most Notre Dame fans then Brian Kelly should have left years ago.

I think a good way of simplifying this is that BK could have recruited better at ND but he didn’t want to put in the work and if he thinks going to LSU means you don’t have to recruit then he is grossly misjudging. He will get better players but the competition is a lot higher so I think that is a push.
Also another thing is BK was feared by beat writers so no one questioned him. IMO that won’t happen in Baton Rogue. So we’ll see how he likes being questioned.
As a Notre Dame fan I was ready for him to move on because I think he did all he was willing to do. Anyone that denies BK got ND to a much better place is just a hater.

The thing you have to remember about ND recruiting is that they have a MUCH smaller talent pool to get players bc of the higher academic standards required. They are basically recruiting from the same pool as schools like Stanford and Northwestern. He doesnt have to deal with that high of academic standard at LSU so his recruiting pool is pretty endless.

It's hard to say if 10 games a year is a definite. You cannot sleep on any team in the SEC or even the Big 12. Teams like Texas A&M can also pounce (no pun intended) on you. Kelly is going to have to work a little bit harder.
You are exactly right. It is a push. Brian Kelly has a ceiling of 10-12 wins every season, then getting smoked in the postseason. He will recruit well enough to achieve that.

Nick Saban was also Croatian-Catholic background, Kelly from an Irish-Catholic background. South Louisiana is geographically South but culturally, it is quite Catholic given its French heritage and large numbers of Irish, Italians and Bavarian Germans who are traditional Catholic ethnic groups. Saban culturally fit in Baton Rouge quite well and Kelly will as well.
Saban is from west Virginia. Brian Kelly is from Massachusetts. Saban doesn't have to fake an accent.

LSU should pass up ND in the recruiting rankings when all is said and done. LSU has more meat left on the bone for big recruits leaning their way. ND really doesn't have many more big recruits to pad their ranking. Of course this is assuming there's no big decommits or anything like that which can happen. ND's recruiting ranking will probably end up 6-7 and LSU should be 3-5.
I disagree. The entire staff, outside of 1 person (Tommy Rees), is filled with relentless recruiters. That wasn't the case when Kelly was at ND. Additionally, the 2024 class should be much better than the 2023 class. CJ Carr, the 5* QB commit, is close with several blue chip prospects, including Ryan Wingo, the #1 WR. Additionally, ND has several tie-ins with bluechip prospects. Quite a few of them have had family and close friends/HS teammates play for/recently commit to ND. They lead for at least 3 5* players (Ryan Wingo, Justin Scott, and Peyton Woodyard), and might even be the favorite for Elijah Rushing. Guerby Lambert, the #1 OT, is also a ND lean. The top 3 kids in Indiana (all top 150 recruits) are all likely to end up at ND, including Ian Moore, who despite having a Ohio State offer, is a ND fan and is waiting for a ND offer which he should get during/after the season.

If it were as easy as getting one great class anyone could do it. ND puts massive restrictions on themselves and aside from the school there’s really nothing in south bend. We shall see where the chips fall but my money is they will be in the same position they are now for the long term. Maybe one day you guys can join the rest of the conference world and play a truly difficult schedule. A lot easier to think you’re great when you have a an easy schedule and don’t play conference champ games.

0:30- disagree with gameday coaching as an overrated aspect. I get what he's saying- and certainly preparation is as if not more important. But I don't like minimizing gameday coaching. Urban Meyer was great on Saturday. John Cooper, not so much. I never saw this guy before but right away I can tell he's true blue Irish fan(1:20). Lose a game or don't win by enough and the fanbase is ready to bench the QB, fire the coach, and hang the leprechuan. But he really showed his colors when discussing the Michigan rivalry (3:57). Before he even got around to saying it I was thinking how breaking the annual matchups with MSU and Purdue is the bigger travesty. I miss and appreciate the Michigan series and like he said, there were some epic games, especially when it was Bo vs Lou. But Purdue, no matter their record, always gave ND fits.
