How to ride the Beijing subway

- Beijing has one of the largest subway network in the world. Despite this, it is very easy to navigate. As it takes you to most tourists attraction and because the traffic in Beijing is horrendous, this is the best way to get around Beijing.
This video will give an overview on how the subway works. The key to a stress-free trip in Beijing is a good map. There are many maps available online. We like this online subway map as it has a ton of information including the shortest route: explorebj.com/subway/ They also have an app for smartphone.
If you plan to use the subway regularly, you should get a Yikatong card. This transportation card can be bought at most subway stations. You will pay a 20RMB deposit plus whatever stored value you choose. You can add more value at any time. You need one card per person. You can use the card to pay for the Airport Express and buses. You get a discount on buses when using the card. At the end of your stay in Beijing, you can return the card and get back your deposit and whatever your balance is. Not all subway stations can refund you but it is possible at the airport.

is beijing mrt crazily packed during rush hour?should is avoid mrt during this hour if i am travelling with kid?
During our visit to Beijing in Oct 2017, we used the subway to visit all the tourist spots. It was great, fast and safe.
Beats being stuck in traffic.
@@ChinaDIYTravel is it possible to ride several lines (by transfer) with only one travel card? Or should i buy one on every transit station?
@@geraldokurniawan2665 You need a ticket for every leg of the trip. They will be different train numbers and different seats. Same for return trips, you need 2 tickets. But you should pick-up all your tickets at your first station to save time and aggravation.
@@ChinaDIYTravel Btw, i heard that all vending machines in the Beijing Subway Stations (including the ones on the airport express lines) already accept WeChat/AliPay app as payment method. Is that true?
@@geraldokurniawan2665 It is possible. I did not notice as I do not have these.
These subways are so clean compared to New York! Impressive!😏
This video is extremely comprehensive and helpful
China's public transport is super easy and cheap to use. Vending machines only take small notes so we would go to the ticket window and point on our map which station we needed to get to. We did China in 2016 and one of my favourite countries that I have been to
@Richard Yang Wow...Should have more office that can give refund for sure.
@Richard Yang why not keeping it?? I'd keep it as a souvenir and as a token for returning.
Thank you for posting. Well be in China soon and your video is very detailed. I really appreciate you showing the main attractions and how to get there. Thank you again for taking the time to help other travelers.
Thank you for this. Most helpful Beijing subway video I've seen so far! Kudos!!!

It's a very useful video, thanks for sharing!
Thank you for the fantastic video. This really helped me make some decisions with our trip planning.
Glad to hear this! Have a good trip.
China is quite impressive and the cities look very modern and well kept. The subway looks clean and easy to use. Safer than Toronto’s subway as they actually have barriers on the platforms so you cant fall (or jump) in front of the train.
And Toronto's subways are safer than the subways here in NYC, hahaha.
Great vid! Thanks for this
this was extremely helpful! thank you!

Very informative. We will ride line 1 and others.
How much money should we buy in one card for convenience - 20 rmb, and how much to refill each time? Where are easy counters to get refund? We only plan to stay in Beijing for 5 days or so. We plan to use Subway instead of Taxi.
Can you commend easy and cheap way to go to the Great Wall besides buses?
謝謝。

Beijing subway is the second longest subway system in the world(the longest system is Shanghai)
Yes, both keep expanding every year.
Yes I hv seem London subway even Paris no one can be equal
you may use your mobile phone with nfc or QR code now.
Android too? Pls explain how ;)
Deynos yes android is ok
@@Deynos QR codes app: "亿通行" (not sure if it support English, it's now sell 1/2/5/7 day tickets too). For NFC, ask your mobile phone's customer support.
Best way for foreign tourists is still buy tickets at ticket machines.
we are arriving at Beijing West from Hong Kong on the G80. Which is the best way to travel to our hotel Park Plaza Wangfujing, subway or taxi?
The nearest station to your hotel it's Dengshikou exit A. Like 15 minutes walk. I don't know much about taxi. It's up to your budget and adventurer spirit!
I am going in 2 weeks time for 5days on my own.. I just going to do all the stops you recommended but no stop advice for The Great Wall.. 🤔
Search for the videos on how to take the bus to Badaling. There is also one for Mutianyu.
For the Great Wall, you need to switch to a bus. We have a video about Badaling: ua-cam.com/video/8ylZO7tC4sw/v-deo.html and one for Mutianyu: ua-cam.com/video/tN9IDZDZnbw/v-deo.html
Can i buy the card already on the airport in Terminal 3 instead of special ticket for Airport Express?
Yes you can. The same card works for the Airport Express and the subway.
just to confirm ticket for 25 RMB is only for one way ?
Correct.
is it possible to buy the tickets with debit card? is there any atm in the airport?
No, you need to pay cash unless you have a Chinese card. Yes there are many ATMs at the airport. Check our video about the Beijing airport: ua-cam.com/video/NvCNDlhUvZA/v-deo.html
Does the metro take you to the great Wall or do you have to take a taxi or a train to this?
There is no subway stop going to the Great Wall as such, you need to transfer to a bus. Badaling is more easily reached by bus but more busy. Mutianyu is not as busy but requires two buses. Watch our videos about going to the Great Wall by bus. This is Badaling: ua-cam.com/video/8ylZO7tC4sw/v-deo.html and this is Mutianyu: ua-cam.com/video/tN9IDZDZnbw/v-deo.html
You can go to the Beijingbei Railway Station, take the train go to Ba Da Ling and Ju Yong Guan great wall.
Jodi Warthen you can take the high speed train
Where can I return IC cards at PEK terminal 3 Leaving Beijing? Thanks
Right.
Hai... Is there any storage space available in subway area? In case we want to keep our bag...
Unfortunately no such thing. Your options are the train stations or your hotel.

Can I pay in the vending machines with Alipay?
How late do they operate?
Not super late. On this map, if you click on a station name, you see the times of the first and last train for the station.
hello everybody can you help me? what is the best outles in beijing and how can arrive it?? thanks
What is an outles?
Jajajaja sorry bro “outlet” for shopping!!! Tks
First understand that shopping in Beijing is not cheap at all. One of the most expensive cities in the world. I once went to Yansha outlets. Very expensive.@@hugoalexandertorres1778
China DIY Travel - China Train Ticket Booking ok, thanks for your information!!!
They could have just filmed this in the HK MTR and it would be the same lol
Just a question .. Can I use the subway to get to the great wall ?
Not possible. Some sections are closer but still require a bus. Go to our channel and check our 2 videos about going to the Great Wall by bus.
Actually, their is a S train called S2 from HuangTuDian railway station/HuoYing subway station can reach Greatwall "BaDaLing". But not recommend using this line. Just go to JiShuiTan station and take Bus 877 to BaDaLing Greatwall. All Beijing buses poorly support English!
Well, bus to Badaling described in this video only has one stop. Impossible to go wrong.
@@ChinaDIYTravel I take the bus 🚌 yesterday .. Was so cheap and easy .. Stopped at the great wall gate… thank you very much.
@@ChinaDIYTravel Yes, but actually in travel seasons, there are lots of news about fake 877 bus every year.... Though current signs is already very clear (new signs outside subway station will guide you to 877), and they may not cheat foreigners because of poor English....
Really I m missing Beijing
やっと、ノルマが終わりました。
Excellent every country and city need clear videos like this. The easier and faster, the more tourist and money for the country. China modern transportation infrastructure is already way ahead of USA (where idiots and crooks in USA governments only invest huge budget in wars/military/so-called defense of what, and social subsidy/tax breaks to superich)and most so called developed countries. Keep it up and keep exporting train technology and improvement. Infrastructure investments is crucial to develop country to enrich people.
I think loop subway system is probably the best for big cities like Beijing, Los Angeles, that can hit most tourist and main attraction spots for local and tourists, very modern and efficient, better than cars and buses in most cases.
这个视频的字幕好大!! 看的画面不舒服
