      @@millomweb if it has benzalkonium chloride in it, the good thing is that stuff is/was used in mouthwash as antiseptic/antibacterial ingredient as well. Well if... and depending on the concentration I would be more worried about other undisclosed ingedients.
      Packaging of those "Lemonade bottles" is realy not what I would prefer and expect.

    I lately looked up fogging devices for disinfection of rooms and equipment as well as odor removal. Seems there are quite a few systems out there. Going after which advertising jumps out of google, Fog-It seems to be the number one and by far the cheapest. Other systems which indeed showed actual pictures of use in hospitals, ambulances, commercial kitchens or for example meat processing (or food in general) industries seem to use similar active ingredients from what I could tell. some of those products even are named fog it plus or fogit Q but those come from completely different companies (one from switzerland I think, the other I cannot tell) The picture of a fogging device I have seen for those applications looked more like a big plastic jar/drum of about 30 liters capacity and mounted on the lid was what actually looked more like a spray nozzle using pressurized air to atomize the disinfectant. I think they even call it cold fogging or cold atomizing.
    Other than the fruity, smelly, snake oily fog-it stuff you showed, for their products they have even data sheets available and they openly say that the main active ingredient is quaternary ammonium compunds, in which family benzalkonium chloride belongs among other substances.
    For the colory stuff the most I could find was a very vague description of the scent. So it may actually contain some kind of QAV, then it would have at least some disinfectant properties. But I wonder, how stable is this stuff when heated?
    Also color and scent in fruity variations seem to be a safety hazard and should be kept away from children, especially with undisclosed ingredients. Or is it really only a mixture of glycol and lemanade for looks and scent with no active disinfectant ingredient or at most ridiculously low concentrations?

    And.... yeah.... nothing about this feels right to me. 240c is quite hot, and I seriously doubt they've tested all their dyes, scents, and chemicals for decomposition products. I'd be willing to bet any antiseptic qualities would be rendered useless, so you end up with a car that's still not sanitized, but with the bonus of some toxic fumes.
    If I was tasked with coming up with a disinfecting fog device I would probably create something that uses ultrasonic foggers in a container deep enough to prevent splashing with a fan to blow the fog around the space. No heat, low power, and I don't think most chemicals break down when exposed to ultrasonics. 🤔

      The fact that the heating element is at 240 C doesn't mean most of the fogging agent reaches that temperature. Turn your stove on and drop water on it: the water will reach 100 C, its boiling point, change into gas and be expelled. From another comment, the main ingredient is isopropyl, so it's going to reach 80 C, vaporize, and carry the higher boiling point components out as an aerosol, hence the "fog".

    Any car sold in the EU and probably also in the UK and USA is required to have a gap between the door and the body of the car, so that in case someone's fingers are in-between the finger is not cut off. That's why there are these thick flexible door rubbers on every car. This also means that it is safe to route a cable through the door of the car and close the door.
    The official BMW software requires you to connect an ethernet cable and close the door to execute an update and teach in the windows afterwards. (The door needs to be closed to teach in the window and the cable can obviously not be routed through the window).

    • @theskett

      Good points, but what do you mean please by "teach in the window" ?

    • @tomvleeuwen
      @tomvleeuwen 4 роки тому +1

      @@theskett The position of the electric window is monitored using quadrature encoders on the actuator motor. When something other than the end position (e.g. your finger) causes the window to slow down, it immediately stops to prevent injury. After a software update, the absolute position is lost and need to be re-learned by opening and closing the window with this protection switched off. Earlier models use current monitoring but also required teaching in for setting the current limit.

    How hot do the chemicals get as they travel through that capillary tube? They will obviously hit over 100°C (boiling point of the water with whatever is devolved in it) but with the water rapidly turning to a steam and accelerating the remainder of the fluid down the tube, it makes me wonder if the majority of the fog produced isn’t much above that temperature.
    Perhaps the narrow tube is deliberate to reduce the time the fog is in the machine after the water boils.

      Probably, most coffee makers have such fuses in the 120-140C range from what I've seen. I've fixed a lot of these over the years. Those "thermal" fuses often seem to go out with brownout like voltage spikes in the system, too.

  • @TheRailroad99

    One thing I never understood: why are there metal devices, which claim to be double insulated (and therefore are not grounded). Particularly a lot of HiFi receivers, for example all my Onkyo receivers. Onkyo is a known brand, so its probably correct, I just don't know why it can be double insulated. The core of the transformer in these units is bolted directly to the chassis, so between life and (possibly) your hand there is only the plastic "winding insert" in the transformer and the enamel coating of the windings.

    • @straightpipediesel
      @straightpipediesel 4 роки тому

      No different from any other double insulated device. Take a laptop charger, you easily contact the outer barrel connector, or maybe you touch the outer shell of a USB cable when plugging it into a USB charger, or you plug a phone with metal chassis into said charger. The limiting, most dangerous, case on both is touching an exposed contact, so the safety standards are designed for that. It doesn't matter whether the exposed area is big or small.

    • @TheRailroad99
      @TheRailroad99 4 роки тому +1

      @@straightpipediesel ok thanks. The way I learnt it was that anything that has a metal case must be earthed. (Because if something fails the case could go live). This is what confuses me. In the reciever, a primary transformer wire could detach and make the case go live. Yet it says "double insulated" and only requires a two pin plug.
      Edit: the IEC rules state that this is possible, but anything live inside the case must be double (redundantly) isolated.
      It seems like device manufacturers (even established ones, not only cheap chinese ones)(and the certification places like CE) are not following this advice. As I said, I have seen many devices with a metal case which aren't earthed, however they never had more than e.g. a single heat shrink at the incoming cable (or socket). They all are from "good" manufaturers like Sony, Panasonic etc.

      But to state that 'CE is self-certified' is totally incorrect.
      Any company can add a CE mark to a product but unless it has been properly certified by an authorized body and supply a 'statement of conformity' with it so you can check who the testing company was, then they would be breaking the law.
