My dad and I ran a wildcat BBS when I was in high school and we were just starting to make a profit when AOL came out and ended things for us. Good memories!
Fantastic. I have been bumping my head for days to do what you accomplished in 5 minutes. Followed your video and was old-time surfing in no time. Much appreciated.
Excellent! Like you, I spent endless hours calling BBS's and downloading warez. I'd like to see more of this type of content, and looking forward to seeing something like the Ultimate II+ for the C64MINI/MAXI.
Thanks, Tom! I sub’d as well. I am awaiting my 1541 Ultimate II+ as well, so will follow your guide here. I had been using my SD2IEC to do this, so your tutorial will come in handy. Thanks again sir...looking forward to checking out your additional videos.
I received the U2+ and got it up, running and configured. It seems to work alongside my tape drive and real 1541s no problem. I was able to get on the BBSs following your video...works great! Thanks again for this video!
@@Craigs-corner Congrats on the U2+. As you know I love mine. Thanks for sharing that the video helped you, that makes doing this so worth it! Enjoy it!
Nice video. Ultimate Term works really well. I think the modem settings is totally irrelevant when you use Ultimate Term. Ultimate Term use the Ultimate Lib and do socket communication directly. The modem settings in the U2+ is for the modem emulation layer that make it possible to use all terminal programs available for the C64.
I've had this on my to do list for a while. It's not as easy as back as in the 80’s so I'll have to do my homework but hope to make a full video one day. I want to run one on my C64 again.
Can the Ultimate II+ be used for receiving calls? I'm in the process of setting up a BBS and was wondering if this could be used to receive callers to your BBS Board? Thanks for your time! Great informative video!
I bought a Grandstream 802 ATA to try to use my old external modems since my phone line is now Coax, I have a VOIP box but trying to bypass through the Grandstream. Can't figure out the SIP address setup info Page... any help or is there an easier way to use external modems dialup to get the nostalgic feeling, experience of calling 📞 out ?
Hello mule1991. I’m don’t have any experience with a Grandstream so I’m not going to be much help there. I think it’s awesome you dialing out the old school way.
Never get this to work with my Ultimate II+ - with any of the firmware I tested, not with Ultimate Term or CCGMS. Even system shows Link Up, I get Connect failed: 84, unresolved host - tested same BBS with WifiModem and it works, so it has to be some settings with UII+ which I’m missing.
Did you try the exact firmware and Ultimate term version I used in the video? I had that exact same issue until I used the correct Ultimate term version. I show my setup and setting exactly in the video. Just match that. Thanks!

Glad I could help my retro friend. Nothing like getting on BBS’s again! Thanks for watching
i was sooooo happy when the modem emulation was implemented into the 1541 u2+... felt like a kid again =)
Agree! Love my U2+

I LOVE C64❤❤❤ FOREVER ❤❤❤
Thanks for Watching!
Congrats on the subs Tom, hope there is many more to come! The floppy noise does the cartridge emulate the drive noise?
Thanks! Yes the cartridge emulates the 1541 drive noise.
Now "Retrocampus BBS" has also ChatGPT functionality
Wow, I didn't know this. That would be cool.
Great video! In 2023 what device would you now recommend for a first timer dialling in to BBS using a c64, I am in Australia.
Ultimate II+ is still my choice.
Are you able or willing to do a video on how to setup your own BBS? I ran one in 83-84 but lord knows I can't remember all that now LOL. Thanks

Thanks for watching. I’ve never used it to receive so I’m not sure. There is a Facebook group for Ultimate II+ and they could help you there.
Love the days downloading a zipped shareware game took like 20min wow
Sometimes hours! Let it run all night!

Please do try the "CHAT" on retrocampus BBS ;)
Need to get back on the BBS.
Is there any multiplayer action games that you can plan on the C64 through a BBS, or just internet IP?
I haven’t come across any but I’m not sure.
Speakers look like they’re from the fifth element
Cool

What do you mean call? Don't you mean "connect"? hehe LOL ;-)
Lol! Truth
