This game is a direct sequel to Shining Force 1 (Legacy of Great Intention) and bridges the story between SF1 and SF2. SF2 can technically be thought of as the cronological 3rd of this series even though if I remember correctly Final Conflict was released after SF2.
I bought a Sega Saturn and SF3 recently. Some people sell reproduction discs of part 2 and 3 and there are things you can buy to allow a Saturn to play repros but I tried this and it didn’t work, so I only played scenario 1, which is still great. 40 plus hours of gameplay. Amazing game. Probably the best in the series. But 2 does kinda rival it in some ways. If you never get a chance to play 3 then don’t beat yourself up, 2 is probably the best game ever made.
I beat this like...shoot, 28 years ago on an emulator. had no idea of the story. but could identify max, adam, darksol, mischaela, odd-eye. And by the end, deduced the infant odd0-eye had wa s Dark Sol of Shining in the Darkness, as well as that the hero was Max's nephew, thus, Kane's son. I wish I learnt japanese.
While some of it's original, some of it's adapted from Shining Force II (on a 16-bit system with better sound hardware) to an 8-bit system. Of course it's not going to sound as good.
