Fun fact: Wolverine was implanted with an adamantium skeleton in a project called "Weapon X" and after he escaped they wanted another subject just like him, but more controllable, so they poached Wade. Deadpool's project was "Weapon XI." Three things to know about Deadpool, Ashleigh.
    1) In the comic books, Deadpool repeatedly breaks the fourth wall. It's one of the character traits that set him apart from everyone else in the Marvel universe. He was super aware that he was in a comic book.
    2) In the comic book, he does have the healing ability, but it's not that fast. Deadpool's story is actually very tragic and sad. His cancer actually kills him over and over again, but his healing ability brings him back to life. He's not nihilistic because he always heals, he's nihilistic because he always dies and comes back.
    3) It was actually mentioned in the comic Cable and Deadpool #2, when asked what Deadpool looks like, he said a cross between Shar-Pei and Ryan Reynolds. Reynolds saw that and knew he had to be the one to play Deadpool on the big screen.

A couple notes on some of the cast. Hugh Jackman has agreed to reprise his role as Wolverine for the next Deadpool movie. The entire Deadpool franchise has been Ryan's dream for years and he's pushed it forwards largely based on his own work from finding funding to "anonymously" leaking previews when the studio almost scrapped the whole project. As such he pestered his friend Hugh until he agreed to do the film.

Even better when you realize that things like Deadpool just not having guns for most of it was because the studio actually put a limit on the number of shots that he was allowed to fire. Did that stop them from making the movie? Not at all! They took what the studio did to them and made their own, huge joke with it. Btw: the fight scene at the end was on one of the crashed heli-carriers from the MCUs previous movies (I lost track which one it was). You can see the outlines if you watch closely. So just from the X-Men Colossus cross-over you can see they used Deadpool to check the waters for an eventual linkup of all the Marvel cartoons into one canonic universe.
Previously the studios holding the licenses for the respective characters were all separated and unwilling to cooperate. In Deadpool the hints of cooperative action were clear, but still offered the studios an exit strategy (because Deadpool the character is known as clinically insane) as Deadpool could simply have imagined/hallucinated everything in his insanity.

This movie has so many inside references that Ashleigh might not get, the biggest being that the same actor (Ryan Reynolds) played a very different Deadpool before AND played Green Lantern in a notorious mess of a superhero movie (the costume was an all-CGI emerald eyesore). Ryan played Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, where he had his mouth closed up and all-different powers...but everyone thought he was perfect for Deadpool if only they'd done it right. ALL of this is referenced from the very beginning of this film.

You know, Green Lantern was a bad movie. But it DID make sense for his suit to be cgi if it was being made with his ring. In an alternate universe I think the idea of everything created with his ring looking "cgi in real life" to everyone in the movie world could have worked.

Having a basic knowledge of pop culture is definitely helpful to get the references that are thrown out in dialogue.
There was also a new movie of Are You There God, It's Me, Margaret that came out this year that was really good. The bulk of the book is about a girl getting her first period, which is why it's referenced during the bloody scene. 127 hours is based on a true event where a guy got stuck in between some boulders and cut his arm off to escape.

On a side note, Colossus is my favorite X-man. In his introduction, he immediately became my favorite character. He’s just a good guy. Plus, Angel Dust is played by Gina Corano, a former MMA fighter. She also played a prominent role in The Mandalorian for two seasons.

Until she started posting and sharing really stupid shit online. Like her saying being a Republican now is like being a Jew during the Holocaust. Stupid, vile bitch. And if Ted Cruz goes to bat for you, you aren't a good person, lol.

    1. The thing that made this movie so special at the time is the fact that people had been dreaming of a R rated Deadpool movie like this for *years* , with Ryan Reynolds in particular fighting tooth and nail to play the character.
Hell, you could argue that if he wasn't pusbing as hard as he was and if the test footage hadn't been leaked, we might not have gotten this or the sequel
    2. One of the main things these movies got right js the fact that Deadpool isn't *just* " LMAO I'm so random."
He's a deeppy flawed, tragic and empathetic character that hides his sadness with jokes and 4th wall breaks

Yes. The test footage was "leaked". Nobody knows WHO could have possibly done that! (read the foregoing in Deadpool's voice)

I'm up to 17:31, "I don't know, it might further the plot," and I have to pause for a while but I'm _delighted_ at how blind you went in. This is so right up your alley, and I'm with you. The jokes and dialogue in this movie are so good. It's such a great combination of the mainstream concept of the anti-hero with edgy, almost indie humor for that genre.

Another of the many Easter eggs in this film. The scene with the bathrobe at the end is a nod to Ferris Bueller's Day Off that has the exact same scene at the end of it as well where the main character breaks the 4th wall & tells the audience its over, go home.

Fun fact, the first introduction Ryan ever had to the character was someone telling him he'd love the it and giving him one of the comics to read. He opened to a random page to see someone asking Deadpool what he looked like under the mask, to which DP answered "I look like Ryan Reynolds f*cked a Shar Pei."
Apparently it was love at first sight and Ryan immediately became obsessed with one day playing Deadpool.

I hate it when Ashleigh doesn't like a movie. I doesn't happen very often, but I hate it. It's not that I am disappointed by her reaction, I hate the sadness in her eyes when she realizes that a movie that was recommended to her didn't work out. But, movies like this one totally make up for it. Ashleigh's eyes when she is happy about a film is so totally worth it! Also, I am old and, therefore, rarely get so excited about anything. Then, I watch Ashleigh watch Deadpool, and I can feel my own excitement grow inside of me. Thank you, Ashleigh. You made my day with your infectious enthusiasm.

How appropriate that I get a Mint Mobile ad (Ryan's company) while watching this. Also the line "Vanessa's already working plan A, B through Z. Me? I'm memorizing the details of her face" never ceases to pull at my heart.
