Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture. With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

You mentioned that Onyx stayed home from school to help you - I fully respect that - a lot of money on the line when it’s go time and when you need help you need help - he’s a stand up young man
In the spring of 1985, I worked the farm fields for the last time. I just finished two 80 acre fields and was just going to stop at the next one but I wanted to do one last round. I'm not going to lie, it was emotional. I had a sense of pride, elation and a bit of sadness all at once. When I walked away from that tractor that last time, I knew in my heart it was going to be last time. I sure do miss it.
I worked at a well known auction company...I had a shoulder for crying on, at the end of many sales.
I know your feelings. I did that last year in March. Walked Way from a life time of going very active on farm and trucking. I miss it badly. I had to devote my remaining life to my wife's aliment who has lewy body dementia requiring 24 7 care. I am currently in the Philippines home caring her with live in caregiver have been at it 8 long years now. In it for the durations.
My brother just retired from farming...
He started buying farm land at 14 yrs old...thats all he ever wanted to do , farm.
It wasnt my thing , but we did lease river bottom for 5 yrs to grow corn..
It was very hard work..
No fancy tractors & planters back then...open cabs & mechanical planters ...
But they worked well...
After the 5 yrs lease my brother bought the 600 acres . I thought he was crazy !
But...he made it pay .
He really did well when he got into raising beef...he fed them from his land & sold excess corn & hay..
Anyway...he started selling his land back 5 yrs ago...
He sold his last 1200 acres this yr ...
Must say , he retired in comfort..
All those yrs of land & equipment payments seemed like an insane amount of debt ..
But he bought most of his land in the 80's & at todays prices he made out very well...
Both of his kids are lawyers & had no interest in farming...
He bought 80 acres in Montanna about 5 yrs ago & built a cabin on it ..
Thats where he retired & loves it...
He'll be 63 in August & he said he wanted just enough acres to not feel penned in...
Good luck to you sir...
I hear you when it comes to retirement !! I am a retired Facilities Manager and miss all the activities of the job. Repairs, forecasting, challenges, camaraderie, and believe it or not, some of the hum drum of taking care of facilities. From fuel depot's, to airlines, to large Shopping Centers - they ALL had their unique and varied peculiarities !! And you get to meet some of the nicest people !!
38 yrs ago did you retire or go to something else
It's nice seeing a planter work with zero issues. Last year planting was a mess!
That rain should get the corn started.
Your son is doing a great job.
I have been praying for all you farmer's, last year was bad for a lot of you guy's, especially those of you who had the storm damage. I like seeing onyx out there, and am really interested in seeing him drive that new rig for your other channel. I'm a generation older than you millenials, but as a kid i learned to drive while helping out on my grandpa's farm, by the time i was able to get my driving permit at 15 i already had several year's experience. Some people may not approve, but by the time onyx is ready to drive on the road with his license, he will be a much better driver than other kid's who will just be learning for the first time. You do a good job with him, because he will call you if he thinks there might be trouble where he's been driving the tractor, but drives like heck out on the track, and does well. Y'all are doing some good work raising your kid's. G-d bless.
Why are you putting apostrophes in plural words? Damn that is annoying!
@@chuckfinley4757 you must sit when you pee.

My Grandpa (born 1898) was a farmer, he always tells me stories about he's farming life, hov they plow the fields, how they harrow them, with just horses, how they planting seeds by hand (throwing them out) and how they harvest the crops using a scythe.... N seeing your equipment now, 2023..... Wow
Zack you’re up there near my Grandpa Mark Cihlar. God bless Minnesota farmers, from Georgia
“Yep that’s what I’ll do. I will farm”. Had me cracking up brother. Love the sense of humor.😂
Final day of planting corn? I feel like you just started. I remember the 471~ acre day from last year!
Where are you located
I think theyre planting less and less corn each year.
Hey Zack, nice of you to control the weather to add a bit of drama to the video, nice going!
Nothing better for any crop than a good rain an hour or two after planting, we can tell you're really happy as those droplets of life came tumbling down onto your fields, Hmmmm, most satisfying moisture of 2023. 😇🇬🇧
It’s really nice to see a planter work with zero issues, Good luck with your harvest
Id love to know you better, thats only if you dont mind cos you seems to be a nice and very cool person
Have a great time at the Grand Re-Opening of the shooting range. Wishing you all and those working with you all the best with this venture. God bless.
We called that black stick to anything and make it 10x's heavier mud, gumbo mud. My grandparents farm in SE AR was ripe with the stuff.... old Mississippi river flood plain.
Hey Zach, I've seen ALOT of your videos going back and watching 3+ years worth to get a sense of farming, since my family has 400 acres in IL. But I, nor anyone in my family farms it, or has any expirence farming, but it does get farmed. Could you make a video on what it takes to be a land owner and what to look for in a share-cropper or land renter or what it takes to make a solid profit on a farm?
Thanks!
Love the shirt. Testical Festival. Hilarious! Now I want one.
I think I speak for long time viewers, in that we seem to be cheated by the perfect operation of the planter! In years past, there was always the chance of massive drama around every bend!! Dang you Derre! Zach is now good old 'calm Zach' just keeping track of the rain. ...... The reality is, it is great to see expensive equipment operating efficiently and smoothly as expected. On to the beans!!
oh i can't begin to tell you just how cheated i feel ................... ;-)
He has also got rid of the anhydrous system that seemed to cause naught but stress.
I know I feel cheated.
Congrats on finishing the corn planting. Hope the rest of the season goes this smooth. 🚜🚜🚜
I can remember selling Golden Harvest Seed for $63 per bag. It's insane nowadays. Those were all bagged corn/bean deliveries, way before mini bulks!
I work for the company that makes those crop loan seed corn bags
2023 corn all planted in no time 🚜🌽🌽🌽🌽🌽Great job Zach 👍
Interesting, the "farmer's network" reporting the progress of the rain across the state!! More accurate than radar. Good timing on that rain too. The corn must have liked that.. I like seeing Onyx become a real member of the working men there. I think he is great. He must have some great leadership!!
Great video, I know has to be a good feeling to have all the corn in the ground. Nice to see Nate back in the game at 100% after his series of overhauls between the knees and the wrist! LOL
The corn in most fields down south here is a foot to 18 inches tall right now. If it keeps raining cats and dogs, it’s going to all be moldy though! 😂
Hell around me, we just started planting about a week ago.
Where ?...Ne Kansas is about 5"
Fuck here in NE Ohio we just started turning dirt
Yeah down here in south MS when need a couple of weeks of no rain
Here in extreme south Ga corn is from a foot too 5 foot tall about to tassel. Cotton and peanuts just out the ground.
One reason i made it Home. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS & FAMILY! Living the Dream. I was sworn to protect. Farmers are Whats right with America!❤❤❤
Back in the '60's when I was farming in Texas Panhandle with my dad our seed corn came in several "sizes/shapes" -- round, flat, etc. and we had to change the seed plates in our old John Deere 70 planters. I never did get the hang of the chain stitch release string.
What was the fun in that? You hardly had any problems at all!! No maddening frustrating problems? Congrats on finishing the corn! The is pretty awesome!
It’s really nice to see a planter work with zero issues, Good luck with your harvest
Id love to know you better Mark, thats only if you dont mind cos you seems to be a nice and very cool person
Throwing bags reminds you how nice that seed tender is
You And Becky Are very great stewards of being great parents in life ahead of them class ....... of 72
Testicle Festival T-Shirt on point. 2023 sure has been nuts! And I'm an Almond Farmer!

I don’t think there will be any issues even after this, Good luck with your harvest

Thanks for another great video. It was interesting and enjoyable.
Busy busy time trying to finish your corn planting in between the rains.
You got the corn done for 2023!!!!!! Congratulations!!!!!!!!
Now switch the planter over for soybeans and on to soybean planting. Go get em!!!!
Having Onyx for that extra hand is good. Lots of farm kids help at planting and harvest time versus school time.
Too muddy to get the dully out of the field. Should be able to move it in a couple of days. Little amount of rain makes a difference in a field.
Guess that is it for now. Take care and be safe. Thanks for everything Zach and Dad and Onyx.
Did we lose Jim!!!!
Bye.
The Iowa Farm Boy.
Steve.
Rain these days is so spotty. The difference in rain amounts can be huge over a small area.
Just you you know it took me a min to get the “get the truck outta here!” Joke 😂😂😂😂😂silly me
Congrats on getting corn done and seems like the planter is working great for you this year
am i the only one who already is excited for harvesting season just to see onyx drive the combine again
That's a special feeling when the last of a crop is planted!
My wife has raised a question. And I can’t answer. 14k for a pallet of seed how many acres will that plant. God bless you guys. Money management is the key.
About 118 acres!
Great to see the planter performing this season, good luck with the beans.
We've gotten about 2 inches of rain on our farm this week, but thankfully we haven't started planting yet so it didn't stop us at all, we plan on putting some milo in the ground this year.
I love Zach because he post good farming content and I like to farm and he’s funny. He’s the best.
Fantastic Job Johnson’s
It sure seems like it was much better than last season.
Thank you for all the hard work
Heck yeah! Planting and harvest are my favorite parts if the year!
Best part of the day right here thank you for posting quality content

At the moment I'm treating cancer, but when I get better I want to go to the US to develop agricultural machinery. I study Mechanical Engineering, I think it's great that you have access to all this machinery that here in Brazil is IMPOSSIBLE for a farmer to have. Only big producers have.
That's an expensive Pallet I'm really glad you finished Corn and are on to Soybeans. Nicely done!
Ngl, you’re working me over with simply safe over the past few years because you’re a no nonsense guy and I’m actually considering checking them out
Hey I was just wondering is Jim ok I haven't seen him helping much this spring I hope everything is ok with him
Zach answered another posting and said "He's good! He had to take some time off for a minor surgery"
🎆Congratulations Zach. I know its not much of a fireworks show but its the only emoji I could find.. Nice job on Corn. Love to see the fields being planted. Thanks for sharing.
you should hang a carbon monoxide meter/alarm lower, as its heavier than air, its useless where you did hang it up. Greets!
Thanks for your service in your community, I know you give back.
It’s really nice to see a planter work with zero issues, Good luck with your harvest
Id love to know you better Justin, thats only if you dont mind cos you seems to be a nice and very cool person
Thank you for sharing your life with us. J.Au-en
I'm from Brazil, comparing your agriculture with ours, I think it's amazing how wet your soil is. Tractors have to have tracks to be able to work, otherwise they get stuck. Here our soil is much drier, the tractors on the tire can handle any soil, even just 1 day after a rain.
Not to mention the difference in equipment, the difference in currency and purchasing power always screwing us over. For example, my father, he has a 2016 massey ferguson 4292 tractor with a manual transmission, which cost R$200,000.00 reais (Brazilian currency). Today it costs R$316,000.00. If we compare 1 real to 1 dollar, you would pay 316 thousand dollars for an intermediate tractor. This difference is ridiculous.
Good to see corn planting done. Hope bean planting goes well.
That was one of the smoothest sponsorship segways and ad roll i've seen in any video. Awesome work!
So much for getting the new structure dry. Wow 😯 instant mud pie special!
🎆🎆🎆 Congrats on a mostly problem free corn planting!
Couldn't help but notice the Round The Bend steakhouse shirt! Thanks for the Cornhusker state shoutout there Zach!
Worst part of getting the dually stuck in mud is now it's packed between the tires and you have to dig it out. LOL
If you get the dually out of the field before the mud dries.....
and drive at 60mph....
the mud flings itself out....
Show us the trick too opening the bags by pulling the right strings
Nice round the bend steakhouse shirt Zach. From that area of Nebraska. Go cow balls
The best videos have Onyx helping out! No offense to the girls as I've watched all of them grow up over the years. Thanks for sharing them with us. From an ole ex farmer in South Carolina.
The other farm channels I watch are always trying the finger snap thing but it seldom works very well for them, you should offer lessons for a small phenomenal fee!
Just to plant some standing corn for our deer fields in Southern Indiana, a 50 lb bag of roundup ready seed corn was $385/bag.
Did he say $14,000 for a pallet of corn seed?
@@pmccoy8924
Yes he did
@@JohnSmith-yv6eq Guess you're right. $300 give or take 50 bags give or take. 50lb bag does anywhere from 2-6 acres depending on spacing. Pallet would do 100-300 acres roughly.
A pallet/box does 120 acres for us with the population we plant
Figure the number of kernals and multiply by maybe 400 when trucked to the elevator...sounds like a money making deal.
That is some impressive rain, we have the same craggy soil, but rarely get rain like that.
It’s really nice to see a planter work with zero issues, Good luck with your harvest
Id love to know you better, thats only if you dont mind cos you seems to be a nice and very cool person
Hi Zach I think you should a podcast on off the Husk with someone who shows cattle competitively cause I think it would blow you away the things people do for cattle
Hooray for corn 🌽 😋 🤗
Just finished up corn and beans both yesterday on our farm in Indiana
Glad you are done with corn hopefully you will be done with beans soon!!!
It’s really nice to see a planter work with zero issues, Good luck with your harvest
Id love to know you better Mark, thats only if you dont mind cos you seems to be a nice and very cool person
The farmers up in North Dakota are just going with planting. So much more snow up there and lots of water standing in the fields
If you put a repeater up on top of the grain bin you would be able to hear the handhelds further away
It’s really nice to see a planter work with zero issues, Good luck with your harvest
Id love to know you better Jacob, thats only if you dont mind cos you seems to be a nice and very cool person
I giggled at the "Testicle Festival" shirt. Im such a child
Here in Texas Panhandle, Planted corn on Tuesday. 3.5 inches of rain on Thursday. Complete washout 🤦🏼♂️
Now all we need is some rain sometime in the spring or summer. Any rain at all would be nice. We don't need a repeat of last year.
Glad to see thing went pretty smooth with the planter so far. Lets hope it works as well with the beans!!
It’s really nice yo see a planter work with zero issues, Good luck with your harvest
Id love to know you better, thats only if you dont mind cos you seems to be a nice and very cool person
Good choice of getting some Croplan corn! Don’t know the variety you use but down in South Georgia 5678vt2p is king
Please keep Sharing...
Unfortunatly it is not available in Australia. Would loved to have the setup from simplisafe. Keep up the great work Zac and Rebecca, love your channel.
Thanks for the Video Zach nice to see the planter working as it should!!👍👍
Will you be at the park as Zach Johnson or as the actor who plays Zach Johnson? Cause rumor is they are very different people lol
Glad to see you planting, just wondering where has jim been
It’s really nice to see a planter work with zero issues, Good luck with your harvest
Id love to know you better, thats only if you dont mind cos you seems to be a nice and very cool person
I'll remember you Zach when I'm filling up on that government 10% ethanol go juice here in Texas, lol
Really nice that you had a good corn planting season.
Areas of South Dakota not so much.
Well, there was that nasty rain holdup with 80 acres left.
But, next day it's in the ground and another corn planting season in the books.
Cat Dog is like my cat I had Cheech.
He actually did act like and think he was a dog.
He would do every trick a dog would do no training on my part and didn't want anything to do with other cats but liked dogs as long as they didn't try to mess with him.
He liked to use my nieghbors Golden Lab Barney for one huge pillow.
They were best Buds.
When I went to move from the Keys back to Miami he said no way Jose and ran away till days after I'd left so the neighbor adopted him.

Love this time of year for many reasons, but number 1 is the videos just keep coming!!
Hard work pays off Zach
It’s really nice to see a planter work with zero issues, Good luck with your harvest
Id love to know you better, thats only if you dont mind cos you seems to be a nice and very cool person
All Farmhands to the pickup before the storm. Get it in the ground. I can always drive home in the rain and "Get the trucl out a here!" No cussin! LOL Smart move.
electrical tape and iron thread is a farmers best friend🤠😁
Wow you guys got that corn planted fast I would be excited to go farming instead of school I want to drive the big the horse so cool
To fix the flappy flasher arm take them apart and wrap tape around the shaft that they mount on
not sponsored by simply safe, but been a user for like 3 years now.. i can say, theyre best security system ive owned and had to work with in the last 10 years. customer service is a bit hit or miss. but installation is simple. app works well. soo if youre on the edge of getting simply safe. heres a non sponsored person telling you to get it. especially in todays age. having a home security system is a must sadly.
Congrats on finishing the corn after the winter that wouldn't end.
Ever used the rest room in the front where the heat from the engine keeps you warm if have to take a #2
We’re Jim been. Great video. I grew up on farm years ago
awesome video. Thank you guys
Oh the planter works..... Well well.
Glad you got your corn in!

Id love to know you better Charlie, thats only if you dont mind cos you seems to be a nice and very cool person
I can tell how you interact with your son you are a good father. My question is, what do farmers do while waiting for the crops to grow.
We spend a lot of time spraying and hauling grain. I also personally have 2 other businesses which keep me swamped, along with 3 young active kids!
That don’t work down here in the cities.
You leave your house unlocked, on the way home you can wave at it going bye on the flatbed.
Has to be a good feeling having the corn all planted. Now on to the soybeans. It blew my socks off when you said what that pallet of corn cost. That's outrageous!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I may have missed it, but where’s Jim? He still stuck in that field from a couple years ago? Lol
As much you are a technical farmer it would have been cool to see how the planner shut off the road as you came into that curved end that would have been phenomenal
Best day when Zach posts
