    My dream is to one day have a farm where juvenile inmates can serve their sentance instead of jail. The farm would be an animal sanctuary. The kids and animals would heal eachother.

    I hope these young men can heal from this horrible ordeal. Jail is no place for children, no matter the crime. If a 16 yr old is commiting crimes, they need help, not prison. Teen brains are chemically imbalanced, science has shown that we cannot expect teens to be adult. Each of these kids is a unique and valued part of our family and I hope they can find the love for themselves that they deserve.

    This series really hit home for me. So many people take education for granted and don't try their best in order to make the best of what they are learning. When there are people who uses education as an outlet and as a way to better themselves in life. This really makes me wish, as a broke college student, I had the funds to donate to such a wonderful cause. Not only does it provide incarcerated youth the power of education but it allows them to make connections with mentors, friends and people they wouldn't have met otherwise.

    Beautiful video. The men in it are so courageously vulnerable and deserve so much better from society! I loved how incredible the interviewer was at holding space for them and being super compassionate and authentic. THAT is the energy that heals and you can see clearly how safe the men feel with her to share and be their authentic selves.

    I used to be that person who believed if someone got arrested they were guilty & deserved to be put in prison & forgotten. I also used to work in that same system. I will tell you this, before I worked there I was a sensitive, kind hearted compassionate person. Not only does the system give an unfair impression that the prisoners are trash & worthless, it also treats it's staff the same way. I've seen a lot of my co-workers change into miserable people as well. I'm so glad that I began to see that I had become someone I didn't like & I have been working hard to become that person I was before working there. I see these people as human beings deserving of love. I don't know their story & I don't have a right to judge. I believe the system needs to be overhauled & society needs to change its views about those who are incarcerated.
    There are those who are beyond help, but those are so few. We need to get to these people while they're young & help those of all ages stuck in the system. Help, not cater to.

    I think the way people look at me after they find out I have a a record is one of my most painful day to day struggles. I usually try and conceal that part of my life as much as I can. Past & present. I was in prison for 2 yrs and while there I met some of the most AMAZING ppl. The facility and the way the prison is set up (for the majority) sucks. What's crazy is my departure from prison was bitter sweet. I had bonds, friendships, and I had ppl there I now loved. I was sad to leave them. All I can say to ppl reading this is......People can change, and mistakes are not hard to make in this crazy world. Some of us just need that one person to give us a chance to prove ourselves. We just need a chance.

    I went to Green Hill School in chehalis Washington as a resident from June 14th 2017 to June 14th 2018. I was in cedar before they switched the name. I got out of there right as they finished Baker I helped name Baker. I believe that's the name anyways. Honestly being in there was the happiest days in my life. I got my GED in there almost got my high school diploma. They encouraged me to go at life at a different angle. I'm currently off parole haven't been in trouble in a long time. I miss it. I miss everyone in this video. There good people despite there charges. They helped me changed my life and they sat there with me on hard days in there and helped see life in a different veiw and I respect them all.

      I just finished watching a prison sentencing video before this video & some of the punishment for crimes seemed ridiculous. One man got life in prison for being present during but not being a part of a murder. Another young man got sentenced because just like these young guys, he grew up poor, was physically, mentally & emotionally abused, he was moved from foster home to foster home & he harmed people in those homes & in the comments everyone thought they deserved it. People think that prisoners are less than human & don't deserve to be a part of society. If it's something negative, people will glorify it on social media but the positive things get less attention.

    • @debbieomi
      @debbieomi 5 років тому

      @@mrmrsbaron5364 Yep, you are definitely right. I think we lose so much by putting people into neat little boxes. We need to open our minds to understand that there can be circumstances that makes someone do what they do. If a person has served their sentence, we need to move on, give them the chance to prove themselves and stop being so damn judgmental. To be honest here though, I would not be able to do this with someone who hurt children or for crimes of great violence. While I do believe that there still may have been circumstances leading to those behaviors, unless the prisoner received massive counseling and has a strong support system upon release, I'm a bit (a lot) hesitant to extend the same sympathies to them. I will call myself hypocritical because I know it is.

      Hi Moritz Runngger, a lot of people think the way you do about this, and unfortunately it's that kind of thinking that leads to recidivism. Young people do not commit crimes because they are "bad people," but because they are dealing with difficult life circumstances or because they learned negative behaviors from others. Most incarcerated people were dealing with poverty before they were arrested. Or maybe they grew up in an area with gang violence and that kind of life is what they were taught to mirror. Or, they have a lot of pain they're dealing with because of tough family situations, and they turn to drugs to cope. So if all our behaviors are learned, or develop because of certain circumstances, why shouldn't young people be given the chance to learn that it is possible for them to get an education, get a job, and change the way they've always viewed their life?
      Their charges are irrelevant because everyone should be given opportunities to rehabilitate themselves regardless of what mistakes they've made in the past. If you needed a second chance, wouldn't you hope that someone would be willing to give it to you?
