    It’s a very beautiful country, can’t wait to go there in the summer

      The countryside might be okay but can't say the same for Riga, knowbody ever smiles, knowbody ever says please or thank you or the Latvian equivalent. Knowbody ever hold a door open for the person behind. Venture out of the old town and you soon realise your in the fourth poorest country in Europe.

      Stephen Fowley Don’t worry I don’t need advice on how Latvia is like, I speak it fluently and know plenty of relatives living there.
      You forget that plenty of Nordic countries are more distant and it’s not that they’re not lovely, but the fact that it’s just culture shock.
      Latvia might not financially be the best country, but I don’t rank my favourite holidays based off their GDP :)

      @@---fo2og I wasn't giving you advice I was commenting on my experience. It certainly is a culture shock. Universally accepted common decency like holding a swinging door open for the person behind or saying please and thank you is lacking in Rigar and being a poor country is no excuse. It's not that their reserved there just pig ignorant. Outside the old town there's a palpable air of utter despair amongst the population. Very depressing place. I was told the actual Latvians are quite friendly but the high Russian population makes Rigar seem like a gulag. My father in law was Latvian but came to the UK as a displaced person after the war when he was 21 couldn't wish to meet a nicer friendly bloke, I can only assume something happend to the country over the last 70 years probably joining the EU. Needless to say I won't be going back.

      Stephen Fowley I can’t comment on your experience and it really is a shame if it wasn’t welcoming or a nice place to be.
      However, I’ve had a completely different time and can’t wait to return

    Brāļu kapi (Cemetery of the Brethren) is a Military cemetery ensemble between Raiņa cemetery and Meža (Forest) cemetery. Unfortunately you showed Meža cemetery in this video.

    18:25 -- Līvu Square. 22:50 -- Jūrmala. A pity that the producers didn't think to employ a voice-over artist who knew (or could be bothered to find out) how to pronounce the names of the places in this video.

    That was only a half of "Cats house" story - they were first placed with tail end to the guild, and switched to current, more appropriate stance after the merchant was accepted into the great guild.

    One thing I remember when there ,a Gentleman told us of the History, then said, to move Forward ,we Must Forgive..... Such a Lesson the rest of the world needs. More so The Middle East. with their Hatred for each other. Will they ever come to Peace?

    How can I get latvia 🇱🇻 on the map?

    • @starvid1310
      @starvid1310 6 років тому +3

      Well, a strange question, of course...just google on the world map...I don`t know if you can find Sweden and across the Baltic Sea, Latvia is on the other side.

      For us latvians it's strange that people from even neighbouring countries like Germany , Sweden or any other european country knows very little or nothing at all about this small country on the Baltivc coast . Perhaps it's just an education . We learned geography at school thoroughly and it doesn't make a big effort to show any country of the world on the map , including even small places like Vanuatu , Maldives or Kribati . Welcome to Latvia and explore it by yourselves !

    Is latvia really dull?

  • @Temerator1
    @Temerator1 3 роки тому

    This video conveniently forgets that Latvia was totally conquered by Hitler, developing largest death concentration camps for children, liberated by the red Army and the Soviet Union, which consequently build railroads, Universities with advance science, famous VEF producing best radio players and RAF producing very popular minivans known across all ex-USSR as Рафик.
    Latvia benefited the most from the USSR and has direct, deep and meaningful connection with the Slavic people just to the East.
    The EU is suffocating Latvia, it has already cut down fishing industry by 75%, eliminated all major universities that were known across ex-USSR and unable to replace anything, because they live by capitalistic and individualistic regime, where the Russians try to have the best of the best in their government, building everything that folks use etc.
    However, nobody was ever stopping folks there from starting their business, ex-USSR distributed income across all members to provide unity, discipline, family values protection, infrastructure development, life expectancy increase, universal healthcare, universal education, no unemployment and no 800% APR cash loans.
    If it wasn't better, then it left much to learn and ponder from.

      Great, another ussr propagandist... all these points about the former industry are so frikin silly, and the propagandists just keep using them even though they are so invalid it's hilarious. Keep dreaming dude. If you want your "communist paradise" then go reestablish it in Russia.
      + "liberated" lol, funny joke
