Doesn’t mention that these upper class newcomers displace locals, especially disabled people. Who are pushed to use MAiD so upper class newcomers have housing.
Also doesn’t mention how immigration is the main cause of these issues either. Housing crises, low wages, lack of “skilled” jobs even though we supposedly have a severe skilled labour shortage and that’s why we need to flood the markets with newcomers we can’t support.

I escaped Canada in Autumn 2022 to my native post-Soviet country (Kazakhstan). I have already bought a house here (w/o any mortgage) made of bricks and concrete with the hot water heating system including wall-mount radiators and a radiant heat floor, it is so much better than the typical Canadian flimsy wooden framed house. My winter utility bills, including natural gas for heating (the outside temperature was up to -30 Celsius) were CAD 55.
For some dental care, fixing three teeth, I paid CAD 150. Opening a bank account with issuing a Master Card took 15 minutes in total and I do not have any fees or transactional limits for the account itself, only 8 CAD for the card annually. If you are not absolutely lazy, the average monthly income is about CAD 800-1000 (at least in my city). This money is nothing in Canada, but if to compare it with the cost of living, it is like 5k-7k after taxes.
The son of my wife`s friend had appendicitis, and she called for the ambulance at 6 pm, at 8 pm he was already on the surgery table with all required tests done (by 10 am next morning the tests results were uploaded to her online account for future reference). She paid nothing.
Public transit is incomparably better and 10 times cheaper. Food is also cheap and also way better because big corporate chains like Costco or Walmart weren`t able to suppress small shops and markets, moreover you can buy everything including dairy and meat directly from farmers.
I can set up a tent or swim wherever I want. Nature is wonderful here: high mountains, lakes, prairies, whatever.
Cars are expensive here though. And I had to buy older ones, its a drawback, that`s for sure, but not a big deal. On the other hand, in general, car maintenance is affordable here. For example, I bent a lower control arm and two frame cross members. Most likely the car would be totaled in Canada, here I paid CAD 450 for fixing, done deal. By the way, the obligatory liability-only insurance is CAD 50 per year. Insurance companies are more or less toothless here and don`t have the same level of authority over people like in Canada (even in the case of an awful insurance history they will insure you w/o any questions and you will pay about CAD 10 more 😀), they cannot change the active status of your vehicle title.
The property tax for my house and another piece of land with a hobby workshop on it is about CAD 30 😂.
Btw, my phone plan is CAD 17 monthly and includes three phone numbers, 200 min. of speaking time and unlimited 4G internet access, I can share these resources among all numbers, topping up the speaking minutes is always possible if needed (2.5 cents per minute). No contract.
I drove across Canada 2.5 times and was shocked by the desperate poverty in many areas, we also have a lot of poor people here but their poverty is not hopeless, they are not walking dead like the crowd of drug-addicted zombies which I observed in Thunder Bay.
Now I understand why westerners, permanently living here, were ironically looking at me when I shared my plan to move to Canada 5 years ago...
P.S. I don`t want to say anything negative against Canadians as people, they are, like all of us on this planet, just people: good, bad or something in between. However, I do have to mention some nuances of Canadian education system (my two kids attended schools in NS and AB, therefore I have some impression about it), namely the appealing lack of world history and geography in the school program and as the result the total ignorance of the society beyond the scope of professional interests. On the other hand, it is very convenient for people in power to easily form the collective conscious in the desired direction.

I've been watching videos like this by immigrants who've, unfortunately, moved to Canada only to discover what a sham it is, and by native-born Canadians who have either already left the country or are planning to.
There are a lot of people angry and disillusioned who have been speaking up. And I'm glad to see it. I hate seeing people being duped into losing their life savings on a scam like the one the Canadian government has set up.

It’s disingenuous . This way immigrants choose Canada over America thinking they’re getting the better deal because it’s “safer” .

    How to succeed in Canada:
    1. Go on social programs
    2. Get social housing , This will lock in at 30% of your income.
    3. Find an underground economy side hustle. because the social programs just pay enough to keep your breathing.
    4. Keep your declared income low. DO NOT WORK whatever you do, it will cost you so much more.
    5. Bonus points if you can do the above with children and keep the expenses down.

Canada is not good for immigration. Here is my story. I came to Canada 20 years ago as a legal immigrant with my wife and 2 small kids and with $28000. I had my university degree in Robotics in Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering. My wife was quite smart and promising scientist with degrees in University of Physics. We were told by the already arrived immigrants from my country that this is a great place to live, just 2 steps before the Heaven... So much not true. Nobody in Canada cared about our professional experience and our Universities degrees and even for my wife's scientific achievements in Physics. Nobody cared about our driver's experience either. The so called 'professional and business gates keepers' + $ traps + $ sharks were everywhere down the Canadian road sucking our money, our energy and our will to establish deep roots in this country. The famous health care was not good at all. Criminal activities and drug addictions were steadily growing every year. Imagine - 20 years ago it was hard. Really hard. It took me over 1 decade to step on my feet and to put my children through universities, to build some $ credit, to borrow money from the banks and to obtain some properties.
Now - 20 years later, it is hundred times more difficult for the new legal immigrants to grow roots in this country. Do not waste your time, your talents and your energy. Do not come to Canada. Please go somewhere else - to the Middle East, to some of the countries in Africa, in South America, in Asia. Their countries governments will appreciate law-abiding, willing to work immigrants with degrees, with experience and with some money.
The currently existing in Canada Liberal government is greedy, corrupt, unprofessional, dishonest, lousy and careless 'political mafia'.
It wants to knock all citizens down and to financially enslave them with skyrocketed taxes and high bank interest rates. There is no point to become a financial slave in this country ruled by new era tyrants.

    • @BikeHelmetMk2
      @BikeHelmetMk2 Рік тому +3

Triple your downpayment and you'll be closer. I had to put $240k down to seal the deal on a place. HCOL areas are crazy.
Edit: By the way, we have a Shareholder and Landlord based economy. I have never seen people struggling affect what the official GDP and job numbers do, but if retired people (own homes) or shareholders (own stocks) take a hit, then spending instantly falls. If you want to get your foot through the good, you probably shouldn't be incinerating your downpayment's value in a bank. Instead, dump it in a diversified tech fund like the QQQ and let it ride. That way your downpayment at least keeps up with inflation. And ignore everyone that says the market is risky and to never use it for money that you *need* - what you actually NEED is a home, and you only get that by retaining purchasing power, which stocks and real estate do. Real Estate can be purchased by the $1,000,000 or so, and stocks by the $50-500, so go after what you can actually afford. Banks are always lower than posted inflation by 2-5%, and real inflation by 10-14%, so it's like incinerating up to 14% of your buying power per year, if you're not investing.
      Good luck!

If you have always dreamed of burning your life's savings then come on up to Canada! It's expensive here because there are way too many middle-men in Canada. Everyone wants to have their hand in your pocket for some good old daylight robbery, ie. 'There's a tax for this and a charge for that'. Been here for ten years and still waiting for a family doctor. Canadians I work with are the same and unless you are pregnant you will be ignored. Medical staff once told me that I would most likely die waiting for treatment if I get cancer👍. Most millennials I have met here are in support of Socialism/Communism and they feel that they can never afford their own home so why try harder - just waiting with their hand out for some universal basic income. You will be told that Canadians are polite only to learn otherwise when they steal from you, push in front of you and lie to you. People are the same in EVERY country so don't expect any different. If you had a truck licence in your old country, they will cut it up when you get your Canadian licence and make you start from the beginning which will cost you thousands. The government has become a fascist dictatorship and is pushing their woke agenda on the population. If you are gay or queer you will probably have the time of your life up here as it seems every second person is now waving the alphabet flag from their homes and expect you to be in support of them. High percentage of jabbed people too who are now clogging up the hospitals with mental illness, heart attacks and strokes. The local funeral home has a newly built crematorium after not needing one for 50 years as business is now really booming for some reason.

This is pure truth. Canadian here, born and raised. Victoria, BC. These issues don’t only affect immigrants; they also affect us natives. I’m a dual citizen of US and Canada. I left for the US and will never return. Taxes are comparable in the US but where I live - Washington state - there is no state income tax. There is a sales tax - 7% - but no harmonized sales tax. So while the federal income tax is about the same as Canada’s, let’s just look at the difference between BC and Washington state. Washington : no state income tax. BC : 7 - 12 % provincial income tax. Washington: sales tax 7%. BC: sales tax 12%.
I could go on and on but I don’t want to make this too big, but in short: real estate, houses and condos, gasoline, and food are also cheaper. There is competition in the auto insurance industry and so I pay $60/month for car insurance.
I’ll save the best for last. Salaries are almost double for the comparable position. I’m a seaman in the US merchant marine, and make $72,000/ year (US) for six months of work. An unlicensed seaman such as myself working for the Canadian coast guard makes exactly half of that - about $36,000/year (US) for six months of work.
Oh and let’s not forget Americans have a constitutional right to freedom of speech and assembly.
Good God, the state of Canada is sickening

Now that the country is no longer low crime and toeing third world standard of living nor a place where you can save your money, there is no incentive to stay here. I did design about 30 large projects as an experienced European architectural enginner, in employment, and I was permitted to sign my name as a drafter only, and permit an old guy with license to sign as an architect, who had to hold his two hands to make a signature on my plans he did know nothing about. Sadly the Canadian system works only for people who have the ability and courage to start their own business and not let be sucked into the employment market by the parasites who live on taking advantage of migrant professionals by various laws which justify this slavery, probably as part of the British-colonialist tradition..I left the country to the US after 15 years and back to Europe, although I like Canada otherwise..and real estate was cheaper back than than now it is priced beyond reality..

Great comment. Just thinking how hard immigrants worked to get here and to make ends meet and yet they are called parasites. I'm glad you pointed out that the slave drivers in the workplace are indeed the real parasites replicating (neo)- colonialism.

I said to my self that if didn’t get CLB 9 on the first try for the IELTS, I will look for other possibilities. Thank God I dodged that bullet.

Here in Halifax NS. are people (and families) who are sleeping in tents set up on recreation ball parks, this was not the case back in 2020, but is now the the case in 2023..... these are the visable homeless, there are ...other people living on the streets........

To be fair, you moved here in 2019: the last "normal" year for Canada. In 2016 I went through a brutal divorce where I lost everything, then saved enough for a down payment and bought a new house for 400k @ 2.69% interest rate at the end of 2019. My house is not in a big city with jobs though, that's for sure. :) Loving your content!

Well that's not fair at all. Now that same house is 700K at 6%.

@@katierose1893 I'm not saying it's fair, I'm just saying that there was a time not too long ago when most people could afford a house (at least 1999-2019), and if he and his family moved here two years earlier he'd be one of the people whose house went up by 40%.

@@nschone7492 what's fair is to look at today's salaries and today's housing prices. Not looking backwards.
