    • @payt01
      @payt01 24 дні тому +13

Apparently getting sounds right is such a specialist area that not every dev team can get their hands on someone who can get it right. Especially for those big jets, even sourcing the sounds is quite the task. You hardly ever get to hear all the sounds you need in isolation, as these big planes are always at an airport where access to them is severely restricted, and even if you can get close to something like a 777, there's always some car beeping, a GPU blaring, other plenes in the vicinity, wind, etc. So you'd really need to make an effort to get to a plane in a controlled environment and then record all the sounds in several thrust settings, preferably without any hangars or other buildings nearby (which cause unwanted echos) etc, using expensive recording equipment from several locations around the and inside the aircraft.. It's just really hard!
Alternatively you can source sounds from youtube recordings, but then the problem is that no 2 videos sound the same, so you'll have to do a lot of mixingm EQ-ing etc to make it into a coherent sounding set.

@@showmefish While everything you said is technically correct, the true reason I'm using and showing the soundpack is simply because I want to achieve the best possible results for the community. And if a number of people complains about the sounds, and then a third party becomes available, I will *of course* look at that. Money doesn't even play a role, there's so much to cover around the 777, I could have done other content and got the same number of views. Just compare it to my other recent videos, just a normal "A ot B" flight would probably have gotten similar views (and longer watch time). And well, I *wish* the money was significant enough that it would matter. But as a matter of fact, after taxes and everything are paid I will probably end up making 15€ from a video like this. From a purely economical point of view, the time invested far outweights the financial gain. I could make much more, if I simply shut the channel down, went to my airline and told them to give me an additional trip per month, or maybe take on an additional role there. You don't run flight sim youtube channels because of money - you run them because of passion for the hobby.
I really don't get what all those "look, a beta tester is doing xyz" complaints are about as well. It just shows that those people - and the 73 people upvoting it - have no clue of beta testing, especially flight sim beta testing. Do they think I have a veto power and can stop a release? Heck, would it even make sense to stop a release for something like that? Sure the sounds aren't the best in business. Were any others when an addon first released? And most importantly: Do those people think I would publically say anything about what I might or might not have given as feedback for a product? Apart from any respect I would show towards PMDG by not disclosing any internals from testing, there's also an NDA in effect which would prevent me from doing so anyway. Whatever my feedback might have been, I will never disclose it. Decency and respect for the developers alone demand that.

I watched lots of reviews, and 9 out of 10 have never been in the flight deck of a 777 in flight. Obviously, the purpose of these reviews are not to review fidelity but instead are for exposure of the product for promotional reasons. Fair enough.

Missing those deep rumbling subsonic noises during startup is a big compromise.. those usually rattle all the windows on an airport, but they are sadly missing in the FTSim version (unless they depend on the angle you're listening to). As a sound engineer, I really DO HATE this soundpack. At least with the default sound you felt as being in a long powerful tube and taking off was a relief of the ground. This addon soundpack sounds as if it was a low-grade portable recorder used to record an indistinguishable ambience with ponctual key-elements to make you remember all those previous noises were coming from a plane.
The plane has basically no more life, no more dimension. The "quietness" you can feel in the different situations is probably because there is not sound material to make a believable sound, so making the sound louder would make the incoherence way more noticeable. Not a basic hater, I really loved what FTSim+ did with the CJ4 back in the days. That sounded like a rocking plane ! They really have set the threshold low with this new one.

Yhe PMDG stock soundset is really good, aside from the secondary engine sounds being far too loud, which are usually droned out by the trademark GE90 sounds we all know and love irl.
When you watch videos of engine tests where one engine is spooled up and down, the recording is so close that you can hear way more mechanical sounds which we never hear or ar least notice irl. It's really that simple.
The stock cabin soundset however, is absolutely perfect. The majority of these people complaining are either kids or adults who lack enough braincells to understand why it is the stock pmdg soundset sounds the way it does. They say the pmdg sound is trash when it is not.

Do you use Speakers or Headphones? I'm asking because the sounds have some sort of tunneling effect wich could be because your microphone picking up the sound of the speakers wich could lead to double sound. If this is not the case and you're using Headphones then the sounds in my opinion are not good. I'm actually not a big fan of FTSim+. Some soundpacks they made are better like the CRJ soundpack for the Aerosoft CRJ, but other ones like the one for the ATR are basically just a copy of the default King Air sounds, my experience of FTSim is quite mixed so far. When i someone trust in Sounds then it is Boris Audio Works. His CRJ sounds for the Aerosoft CRJ are night and day between the default and FTSim ones in my opinion.

I think PMDG did a good job with the sounds but they simply need to increase the volume of the scream so it overshadows the other engine sounds which we barely hear and notice IRL. Those secondary sounds are far too loud.

Sound quality while important doesn't factor in for me as a ground handler. No amount of sound via a headset or sound bar/sub can compare with standing a few hundred feet from a GE-90 during startup. I have never been on a 777 flight deck irl and likely never will so decent enough works for me.

As a sound engineer with 20 years' experience mixing live audio, and who's flown as a passenger on plenty of Boeings (and once had a jump seat landing in a 737-800), I personally I think the default PMDG 737 sounds are very poor. The default 777 sounds are an improvement on those, but still poor in comparison to, say, the Fenix. This sound pack definitely improves the spool up/take-off roll sounds vs PMDG's attempt, to a point where they're certainly passable (the pitch sounds a bit low to me, but I can live with it). Engine start, reverser and external sounds seem worse than the default. So, it's a bit of a wash for me. Personally, I am hoping that @borisaudioworks does some sound packs for both the 737 and 777, because his packs for the CRJ and the upcoming Bluebird 757 are stunning. In the meantime, I hope PMDG does some work on their sounds, because they're really not great considering the prices they charge. At this level, I really want to be impressed and sadly I'm not.

Personally I think it’s rather unnecessary to focus on the small “bad” things about the PMDG, when there’s so much positive to focus on. With this other mentality that we only focus on the negative, go fly an LVFR plane and keep complaining

100%. I feel like PMDG focused more on the system rather than the sound and they probably already knew they aren’t gonna get positive feedback for sounds, meaning they might focus that on future updates. Other than sounds, it’s still a amazing aircraft

I downloaded the FTSIM sound but now don't have any typical engine start sound at all. The rest of the set works and certainly is better then PMDG original sound file which hopefully gets an update asap....

I belive its ok PMDG not having as one of its main focus sound quality... But viewing so many bad reviews on how bad it actually is vs. how much they are charging really looks bad.
HOWEVER dispite the lack of realism said by others, i'd stick with PMDG's sound pack as even tho its less reallist ot sounds more entertaining.

People are acting like this never happens, expensive addons with lacking sounds... :D Fly the Maddog X MD80 is an amazing airplane, but also suffers from a below average sound pack which is greatly improved by installing a third party sound pack from FTSim... :)

This pack sounds kind of mid to me. I am an FTSim Patreon, and I don’t think I will pick this up. I don’t think it offers much more, I think FTSim rushed this one out. I am sure it will get better though. Honestly though, I don’t think the original is that bad. I guess I don’t care that much though. I swear people sit next to their computers with big JetTV on and just play takeoffs over and over again. Lol!
