It's really tricky to figure out, since a lot of the show really is a "magic trick" being performed for real ("we tricked stone into thinking by putting lightning in it"). There are the ocasional moments where I get a bit of a ventriloquist show vibe, but it might just be the performance style and not actually staged; Pinocchio really is on the way to becoming a real boy, but we never get to have a good enough look to tell how much strings have been cut so far.

The dad is not wrong. If the kid is actually getting into exercise he needs the protein. He just needs to communicate what is going on better. I would say for a teen you need a minimum of 100gs of protein a day. It is hard to get that without getting into supplements. If he really wants to help though. Get him some whey protein. Can easily add another 25-40 grams with a glass of milk and one scoop.
From my understanding the kid likes sports but not to the point of wanting to be an anthlete. So you are correct he needs some protein in his diet, but the father almost seems like he's giving him a Strongman diet. Him saying "you're interferring with my training" is to me obvious he's putting some unfulfilled dreams of his own on the kid. Like moms who send their daugthers to peagents.
