I grew up in Hull, with my father working at the British Cocoa Mills, and these videos remind me so much of what I experienced as a kid going into work with my Dad. Really enjoying the content, thanks for sharing with us 👍

@@Geterbrewed unfortunately not. The British Cocoa Mills in Hull was taken over by ADM Cocoa around the turn of the century. It was finally closed completely about 10 years ago, and made way for a Biomass Powerplant. Four generations of my family worked at the mill. No wonder I ended up a bit of a chocoholic ;-)

I am a coffee roaster / QA guy and thought the roasting was very cool. Do people use color reading machines like Agtron? Also what was the sample cutting thing? that was interesting.

Hey Tommy, thanks for engaging, The colours vary due to the method of analysis.
IOB, you either boil the patents for one hour, and Crystals mix with white malt and put in a water bath at 65c for two hours. The colour is then read on a Lovibond colour reader.
EBC, Colours show as being higher than IOB as they have been analysed differently, they have longer in the mashing bath and therefore show a higher colour reading, even though the malt is the same. I'll have to find out the name of that tool again. Is the coffee roasting process similar?

@@Geterbrewed sort of. Coffee roasting is 7-15 min. one degree or seconds have big impact on taste and color. Color is read on a machine after grinding the coffee. but brew is done for sensory check tho.Would love to learn more about that tool if you find out.
