    I recently bought the Gearit. Frankly surprised by its quality. No finish issues, quite a lot of accessories, no chance of fret sprout and the frets are smooth and all properly levelled. Intonation was right on, although I had to raise the high strings. The sound is ok and as you say very much like older strats. The tone controls actually work. It’s short coming is the tuners for sure. Locking ones on order. Really a great body and neck for modding one that can be modded in an unhurried way.

    Hi Joe. I’ve bought guitars from both companies recently but different than the two that you are featuring today. I agree that the customer servi ce is very good with Monoprice. The guitars I bought were also blow-out prices. I thank you for the heads up about them. At blowout prices they can’t be beat and whatever problems are easily tolerated. The prices were so good, I bought guitars I didn’t need and since, I ‘ve had to turn down a couple blowout offers because I have more guitars than I can actually use at my age and expertise level. When the time comes, I will donate them to charity. In the meantime, I enjoy making the choices about the deals that you throw our way. They are usually priced so low the companies are just raising revenue to get new stock. It’s fun to be able to make the decision. The rounded frets are a new feature which makes the deals even better. See you next time!😎

    Yes, Monoprice is solid in CS, I only had to return one (dropped) T-style and they shipped the replacement before they had a 'shipped' notice from my end.
    The Helix line was in 3 colors: purple, blue, black...all with the burst. I had the blue one but traded it in to GC for something they had on the wall.

      @@thebluesrockersJust thinning the herd, I had 3 cheaper S-style and kept one to practice/learn taking it apart and back together before attempting anything on my $$$ axes...the Helix lost out to a '95 MIM Fender that Sam Ash sent by mistake - and told me to keep. I got the Helix on sale for 140ish and thought it was a good buy almost 3 years ago.

    crazy values nowadays! Of course, with setup skills (I lack), that opens up what is worthwhile. Monoprice blowouts are are rather insane! I think they found a batch of the Helix's they forgot about and sold them out to clear out the inventory.

    You got me again, Joe. I ordered a GST-200. Was a bit surprised there were any left for sale. With the 10% it was $88 with free shipping from Amazon. I wonder if people who are not Amazon Prime members get free shipping. My wife is wise to you, and grumbles a bit when she sees me watching you. May have to start waiting until she's gone to bed!😀

    I do lots of bends and like jumbo or xjumbo frets. Unfortunately, budget guitars don't offer them, so I'm forced to pay more.

  • @GWBridge
    @GWBridge 4 місяці тому +1

    Joe, can you check the exact nut width on the GearIt compared to a Boardwalk or other "Gibson" type guitar? I have a Affinity Strat, and the strings are too close together for comfortable playing (for me). I have the GearIt LP and it's fine. The Indio Boardwalk is fine. There can't be much difference, but I wonder if the Fender clones also have a narrower fretboard.

    • @AJgeartalk
      @AJgeartalk  4 місяці тому

      I'm getting 1.65 inches.

    • @GWBridge
      @GWBridge 4 місяці тому +1

      @@AJgeartalkInteresting. The Squier Strat measures 1.60. That's narrower but doesn't account for the different feel. Perhaps string spacing is more to the point. I have a Samick 335-type from the 90's with original nut that measures 1.60 and is perfectly comfortable to play. Other Gibson-style guitars with original or replacement nuts measure mostly 1.65 plus change up to 1.70 and feel wider. Must just be me fingers!

    Good informative video Joe. I know it's subjective to individual, but I'm looking to buy either a S or T type guitar for $250 or less. Mostly concerned about comfort and ease of playing. I'm open to replacing the pickups if necessary. What would you buy? Thanks.

      Buy a censtar and don't look back. Right now they are 199$. I have the S style and the t style. There is no comparison to these 2 he's comparing. Stainless ball end frets. Roasted neck and roasted mahogany body. Very good tuners. Setup was perfect on both. Low action. They sound great especially the T style with 2 humbuckers with coil split. The S style is hss with coil split on the humbucker. They are as good as a mim fender if not better.

    • @AJgeartalk
      @AJgeartalk  4 місяці тому +1

      I am assuming you've had all 3 of these guitars. The GearIT has ball fret ends. Weakpoint is pickups. From the reviews I see on YT- Censtar's weak point are their pickups as well....@@spookshilljoe7376

      I have no gearit. I've been watching all the videos on these but never pulled the trigger. The censtars I have the tele with humbuckers and there is absolutely nothing wrong with the pups. You can everything from country to hard rock or metal. I won't change them. Then I have the strat hss. They may need an upgrade but they are descent for the price. The tele is amazingly good. I'm going to try the LP next.

    I just tried the step down on the Gearit strat style with the HSS split coil switch, the neck was nice, but it was not a responsive tone style body, it felt dead. The Ash one looks great, and you can't beat a nice piece of ash

    • @bluwng
      @bluwng 4 місяці тому

      The body doesn't produce tone. Swap a loaded pick guard or change pickups.

    • @thebluesrockers

      Wood tones only apply to hollow body, instruments. Plywood will sound just as good as any other wood on a solid body guitar. It's been a market strategy for decades. The pickups are the heart of any guitar, and they're electric. That's the truth. You may not want to believe me but it's 100% the truth. But in the words of the late Mark Twain "It's easier for a person to continue believing a lie than it is for that same person to believe that they've been lied to." Please look into what I've said before smacking me with a nasty comment. I'm sure if actually research this you'll discover that I'm correct. I fell for that "Tone Wood" shit a long time ago. It does however apply to acoustic electrics, and probably semi hollow body guitars.

    The Gearit in my opinion is a way better made guitar Right out of the box..I had both Indio guitars...the blue and the charcoal ones...One was really back bowed and the other had too much forward bow that could Not be adjusted with the truss rod and frets that could shred paper!.. That's probably why they were selling for $30..They were sent back...Count your frets again it looks like there are 22 frets...
