- Shubhangi Sakhalkar performs Raag Marwa and Raag Kalavati at the Ustad Amir Khan Music Festival on October 8th, 2022. Accompanied by Ravi Gutala and Vivek Datar. Tanpura by Arabhi Sundararajan and Ranjita Swamy.
Shubhangi Sakhalkar is one of the founders of the Ustad Amir Khan Music Festival.
Shubhangi brings a brilliant pedigree to her music from the early years of tutelage from Mrs. Kunda Vaishampayan, followed by the devoted learning from the renowned artists, Dr. Prabha Atre and her present guru Smt. Padma Talwalkar and years of ardent "riyaaz".
She has performed in several musical circles and events in India and has accompanied her guru in concerts all over the country, including the highly regarded Savai Gandharva music festival.
A gold medallist with an M.A. degree in Hindustani classical music, Shubhangi believes in sharing the knowledge and raising the awareness of Indian Classical music by teaching her students for whom she is an inspiring mentor. She hopes for the Ustad Amir Khan Music Festival to provide opportunities to young artists in North America and to promote Hindustani Classical music appreciation throughout the world.
Labor rules.
Great effort in spite of the handicap of not possessing a very suitable voice. Her efforts to keep Indian classical music thriving in the US are commendable, aided by her high theoretical knowledge of the art.
However, notwithstanding the commonality of voice constraint, comparing the performance with Ustad Amir Khan (as done in one of the comments here) will be unfair to the great maestro, & I am sure that, she will be foremost in agreeing with this.
Best wishes to her.
Also, can it be clarified who is who, on tabla/harmonium, out of Ravi Gutala & the other name mentioned here?
Kya baat! Serene Marwa followed by a delightful Kalavati. Vidushi Shubhangi Sakhalkar weaves magic once again.
This is a masterpiece!
What a rendition of Marwa !
No easy raga is Marwa. It has lot of bhava associated with it. The same has to be brought out by the singer. Another capable singer was Shanti Sharma in the Indore school, trained by Pandit AMarnath. Please look for her Marwa on UA-cam.
मनापासून धनयवाद 🙏🙏
This is one of the best renditions of Marwa that I have heard. Shubhangi Tai, you took the audience with you on an incredible journey with this one
This is the female version of ustad amir khan sahib. You have brought his music alive , Shubhangi to newer generations. Grounding and peaceful- a masterpiece. ❤
Btw , both of her gurus are almost unconnected with Ustad Amir Khan's gayaki & the gharana founded by him viz. Indore gharana. The only connection that appears here is that the institution, in which the performer is a founder, is named after Ustad Amir Khan!
Thank you for this. What an amazing gift 🙏
What a beautiful Marwa!! Such an immersive experience in aalaps and amazing laykari in the sargams. Its a masterpiece and so much to learn for a student , thanks so much Shubhangiji!!
Top class. The one bandish sung by Amir Khan Sahib himself has been honoured in equal terms.
The beginning feels like swimming in a deep dark ocean looking for light and land which eventually you find in the end. The truth of it all is beyond words or even music to express. The question is not when will I see the light and find the land. The question is - Am I sincere enough for it? Truly Tai you must have done great tapas to gain it 🙏
