Man… the second verse on here particularly is pure brilliance. Funny enough I never paid much attention to this song and probably haven’t listened to it since this album came out in 2017. I think what happened to me and probably many others is that I was so shocked and disappointed with the album not being what expected/hoped for that the selective focus had me totally ignore anything from the album that was actually good. Not feeling the new album either but I’m trying to let it marinate cuz 7 years later I’ve found some songs on Revival that I really like
Selective focus is a MF… I love the original song by The Cranberries, but despite being so disappointed with the album I wasn’t able to let this song land. Was very caught up in expectations at the time and let things that bothered me about the album and some songs in particular ruin anything else that I actually would have liked. Second verse here is incredible. The way he paces and places the internal and external rhyme schemes thruout the whole verse is so well done. This song along with Framed, Heat, Castle and Arose are all really really good and there’s some other tracks with upside as well but back in 2017 I was convinced there wasn’t anything good about it at all lol
