Have you seen the re3views on this company? The stuff they get up to is absolutely shocking. To entrust such a company with such a problematic car is total financial suicide. If it was a company that had some sort of integrity like Bamford Rose (Aston) seem to have, then I'd be all for it. But the forums are littered with bad stories .. too many for my liking.
Obviously this has no reflection on the channel, but I fear the original summation on McLaren's still holds true, and that Thorney will do little to nothing to change that, but they will change your bank account ... significantly!

What a pleasure to hear this talk sense about supercars!!! 4 wheels and a engine, classic.
It also shows that as good as McLaren are they cut costs in silly places.
I'd do business with this guy any day of the week.
Great video, awesome job !!! Your channel is straight forward and honest again this is refreshing. 😁😁😁

The only question I've got is; if they're so reliable, why are there soooo many videos highlighting so many issues from fairly genuine sources like superspeedrob and hoovie ... and not from the hoard of entitled brat channels! . Sure there are many people aiming for clickbait, then there seem to be some genuine customers having genuinely bad times with their cars. ua-cam.com/video/mYuH41qR9IU/v-deo.html

I met John many many years ago, not to mention watching him have a stab a BTCC!....top guy, extremely genuine and If was fortunate enough to be able to run one of these machines it is him who I'd go to.
Best independents will always knock a main dealer in to a 'cocked hat' in their ability to look after customers and their cars - I worked in the high end motor trade for 13years, so I've seen it with my own eyes! Good luck to Thorney Motorsport.

It's not hard at all, you in US have some of the best shops and tuners in the world. If it was me a proper tuner shop / race car shop will be more than able to help you and learn the tricks and tips. Thorney weren't really known before this, apparently they focused on bimmers and Opels. A shop like bbi or equivalent will learn and know how to develop solutions to any kind of problem in no time.

The most in-depth and honest insight to how these cars are built, and what are the strengths and weaknesses I have ever seen. Definitely without having to own a McLaren and finding out from McLaren that the cost of a gearbox is £17K. Thank you Jay & Thorney Motorsport.

Hang on. The Thorney warranty only covers up to £10,000 per claim. So if a serious engine or gearbox issue happens it's pretty useless compared to a Mclaren one. That's a pretty big omission isn't it?

  • @dair919
    @dair919 6 років тому +7

Ha funny to see that john in still in business. I wouldn't let him touch any of my cars.

  • @MrMightyytau

Exceptional Video James, and great to get some real insight into these cars, Sadly Australia is stuck with Mclaren only service, and gearbox issue alone is a show stopper.
Makes the Supercharger on you 400 look cheap.

If you're going to offer a straight through pipe surely you have to have the car remapped at that point. The stock map might actually make it worse.
I find if very frustrating that McLaren pretty much do not want anything to do with the second hand market and they still do not offer their diagnostic software to alternative specialist who are prepared to look after these customers who they don't want. Truly disappointing.

Great video. I’ve considered at 12c in the past but have been put off by stories of epic servicing, repair and warranty costs going directly with McLaren servicing. I have owned a 12C for 3 years and it has been fairly faultless and by far the best car I have owned. £5K in servicing and £7k in extended warranty that I won't be bothering with as it had £3K in bits in that time. Don't listen to the doom mongers, John is speaking from experience of multiple cars and not 1 bad one.

I seen a retro hybrid kit for 350z that adds 200bhp.Given McLaren are a good daily and all models have the same engine I think this would be perfect match.A 30 mile electric only range whilst taking daily stress off engine and gearbox.Ever consider developing this type of kit essentially turning a regular McLaren into a P1?
