Gojo literally chose his own demise by letting sukuna get 19 fingers talk about suicidal bro could have annihalated sukuna but igg they have to detroy himm totollay so his curse wojt spread again.
They would've had to wait for Sukuna to switch vessels, because Yuji had the capability to suppress him, so executing Sukuna would mean losing Yuji. But if Sukuna was in a vessel that couldn't suppress him (like Megumi) then they could, since the vessel (Megumi) would already technically be dead But by the time Sukuna switched vessels, he was already too strong, as well as everything being busy with the culling games and Gojo being sealed ect.
