    I just feel like Aron Beauregard thinks that SA is just a think to make stuff scarier, either he likes writing about it (which I don't want to think about) or he's just adding it for shock value to be edgy, Is there a single book (Including sequels) he's written without SA???

    • @CT-se8vn

    • @SariniyaKiyu
      @SariniyaKiyu 2 дні тому +29

      Tbh many authors think that SA is the "ultimate sad thing" that can happen to a woman. To see him use it every chance he gets, I am not surprised.
      (Not to say SA isn't terrible, but to use it like that over and over again with no actual consequences to the characters besides a "big sad" is distasteful.)

    • @kirbystarsaga
      @kirbystarsaga 2 дні тому +18

      I feel like this goes for a lot of extreme horror authors. Genuinely, I don’t think I’ve seen an extreme horror book that doesn’t contain sexual violence in at least some capacity, which is honestly kind of frustrating to me. Adding trauma of any kind in a horror book is not inherently bad, but it really seems like these authors add it in for extra shock value. Extreme horror/Splatterpunk is a genre I’m interested in due to the concept being really interesting to me, so it’s sad seeing authors just repeat the same few things to try and shock/gross out the audience

    • @L1ncore
      @L1ncore 2 дні тому +7

      I think he probably just uses it for lazy shock value honestly. Its pretty much always framed as a thing that Evil People do in his books, even if it is cartoony and gratuitous at times. And while i cant remember if hes said anything about SA specifically, he Has done fundraisers for charities that help people experiencing domestic violence. So take from that what you will 🤷🏻‍♀️

    Ranking these:
    1. Lasting Impressions - definitely the best one here, though I just like possession horror so maybe I'm biased
    2. Seeds of Tomorrow - not a lot to say about this one but i like the idea, plus feels like there's actually something to the hyperviolence here
    3. Pizza Face- not great but I can totally see it as a fun campy horror/dark comedy short film, feel like everything with the arcade game shouldve either been removed or built on though
    4. Perfect on The Surface - agree with you on there being potential here if the pacing was improved but rn it doesn't do a lot for me
    5. Sunday Brunch Gone Awry- if it wasn't for the random SA scene and if they did more with the whole "ignoring danger" theme itd be fun but it didn't do much for me as is
    Also the one piece gifs r good taste

    Pro tip about acne the best thing to do is usually just leave it and not touch it and eventually go away by itself if it's really deep acne then yeah I'll probably take a month or two but it eventually just disappear but if you try to mess with it it will usually leave scars or spots

    • @ohno4930
      @ohno4930 2 дні тому +10

      not always true about cystic acne specifically, (which is what's mentioned in the story) at least not for me or anyone else I've met with it. it can be caused by hormonal stuff that needs to be treated accordingly. cystic or not though, if you're having persistent acne that alters your self esteem and quality of life, the best thing you can do, if you have access to it, is seek professional help. (sadly i know that not everyone can do this, it's a privilege)
      leaving it alone might work for some people but i don't think it's really good to label it a pro tip for everyone! if i left my cystic acne alone with no routine and never used my meds, it'd get out of control. i know this because that's what i did for a long time, and the only thing that stopped it from being unbearable was getting a routine with dermatologist-prescribed medication. it's not GONE but it's a lot better now
      ur definitely right about not touching it unless necessary though! ive picked at mine a lot and it's definitely made the scarring like, noticeably worse

      that’s just not entirely true. does touching it and messing with it cause irritation and inflammation? Yes! It is best to leave your face alone in that regard, especially with the risk of spreading bacteria with your hands. However, that’s not a magic cure-all that’s going to fix the underlying issue with is the hormones that cause it, and the bacteria it produces. Unless you’re some magical unicorn - sure I’ll give you that. But this isn’t all fact, friend

    Just saw this, and thoughts:
    1. Yeah, same as everyone else, that's a Junji Ito story, and I remember that one being so horrifying that I needed to step away.
    2. No thoughts. Just shrugging. I mean, sure, I guess? I don't care. I'm not really caring about it at all.
    3. There's a way better version of this one that I know of, with the idea of "A wonderful woman comes back from the dead to torment the husband who essentially killed her." It's called Leave Luanne, it's a wonderful song, go play that one. Just the line "And loyal Luanna remains and remains and *remains and remains."* sticks with you, especially with how it's an echo from earlier on. Man, it's so good. Totally recommend it. Go for Leave Luanne, look up any of the animatics, any of the covers... That's just my thoughts.
    4. And another one that's making me think of Junji Ito at first-- There's a story about an alleyway, where the one rooming in a nearby place went into the alley to look for the source of the noise only to find out that the girl living nearby killed those kids. She kills the guy who found out, but gets stuck in the alley and is implied to be killed by the shadows.
    5. The moment that the jam was brought up, I was 90% sure it's people as the secret ingredient. The fact I was right... welp. But I do love the idea of that couple doing that together. That's genuinely so cool. I do want to see people taking revenge and being fused with plants and the earth. I don't want bad jam. Just feed them to the plants. Make them fertilizer for the strawberry and rhubarb. Ta-da, still leads back to the jam but it's so much more sensible, and they can keep selling the jam despite being dead!
    My overall thoughts? Go read Junji Ito, go listen to Leave Luanne, and have a nice day :3

    To be honest I've read an old fairy tale (might have been hans christian Andersen) where a shadow comes to life, becomes more human than it's previous owner, and then comes back and hires the guy to be it's shadow. I also remember watching a horror movie where people's reflections were taking control and offing them in some pretty sick ways, like the one girl where it grabbed her upper and lower jaw and ripped them apart. Maybe one of those?

    I lost all hope for Beauregard after I read his "pulp revenge thriller" Yellow. That is a genre that feels like it should fit perfectly with his... "style", yeah that's what we'll call it. But good lord, it's just too much, it's like he's trying to play into straight-up satire while also demanding the reader take everything 100% seriously all the time. So it just becomes this weird mix of edge-lord melodrama and over-the-top... fucking everything!

    Lol why does extreme horror always gotta fuck with rabbits?? You'd think using harm towards dogs and cats would be more shocking since they're more common pets, but i guess I gotta be the one person that has rabbits and is still interested in extreme horror sometimes, lol

    The shadow story reminds me of the X Files episode with the guy who accidentally ended up with a killer black hole shadow

    Somebody probably already thought of this, but the closest I can come up with for the dog thing is the mutant bunnies gave him… bunny “energy”? I still feel like that’s giving Mr. Beauregard a little more credit to his process than there actually is. He strikes me as a guy who comes up with a gross or shocking scene and writes elements around that. That process can work if you put effort into the “How did we get here?” payoff rather than “Lol gross”

    I think you might enjoy Maeve fly
    By Cj Leede. It’s not splatter but still pretty unhinged, especially towards the end. Idk, it was the book that came to mind when you said you liked the revenge story.

    I’m a fan of Aron but What you said about the video game reminds me of something that drives me up a wall with him. He really loves putting in references to his other works, but not in a way that is like a cute Easter egg, but more so like he’s making the damn MCU. His favorite book of mine has an epilogue that could almost be cut entirely but listening to his afterward, you find out that character was the star of one of his shorts. Like what the fuck am I supposed to do with this information? You ground this story to a halt to tease some of your other shit.

      Same lol. The tie-ins he attempts never really feel meaningful. More like they just exist as a tactic to get you to read more of his books.
