Great to see Terry Booth in there. Legend and a lovely chap to boot. He once treated Dawn and me to dinner at the Squirrel Inn near Godalming on our engagement.
Ah have been there at least once I think. I now remembered you were "down South" for a bit. Terry's dedication to training and indeed racing is an example to us all. He averages not far short of a marathon a day.
Mate I been hiding in the gym training not a fan of the heat, Done a 5k at the weekend killed me lool Nice you brought the Mrs she done a great job. Nice upload as always.
Quality race, quality runners and quality interviews. Well done Tim. Was a pleasure meeting you yesterday. Enjoy your next race on Wed! I don't know how you can do so many so close together. I'm aiming for a sub 40 too but need to find the right race with the right conditions. At least we both beat Rob ;)
Good to see you and yes - always good to beat some of my team mates if not my viewers LOL! Well done on your PB - tough day for it so you can't be far off a sub 40 before long. I actually haven't raced much at all of late. Getting Covid about 2 months ago did not help one bit and still think I am playing catch up as was doing 37 for 10K in Jan not now a 41 !
Great commentary from Sue (good camera work too), there were certainly some people leaving it all on the track, I think you handled it well, Sue is spot on, you will bounce back quickly, one or two over 50's will be suffering for at least a week after what they did, one guy has wobbly legs at the end of 6 miles. naa you have the rest of the year ahead of you .. good race in hot conditions.
Thank you very much for your kind words John ! My camera skills must be improving ! ( I always tell Tim he can ‘edit out ‘ my quirky take on things - given I know nothing about running ! But I have watched Tim run so often I can spit the ‘lack lustre ‘ or ‘bag of spanner’s ‘ type races ! ( I d kit however know - or wish to know - anything about shoes ! ) over to Tim for such matters !
I was out at the same time of day on my long run along the Thames towpath and yes, it was hot and actually quite a stiff breeze southbound. I noticed most who did the race slowed down a lot in the first few k. I wonder what the SSS of the course was…
The towpath seemed a struggle too. In hindsight I hadn't rested up or had enough sleep of late so the heat just made that worse. Turns out this is actually a multi terrain race as you can only have about 10% of the course "off road" to still count. As such have changed them to 10KMT on Power of 10 although my fastest "10K" in recent years was here in 2019 although was only a few seconds slower in Jan when did 37:42 at the Speedway 10K. Not sure on the SSS as yet but doubt will be high to make my 41:06 "flattering" :)
Yes, these summer road races can be a real grind in the heat. Last year I did a 10k in 27C and that is still to date the highest heart rate I' ve ever recorded
It was "only" 22 deg C but at 9am it seemed hotter than it was and was also getting warmer. Making excuses I had not rested up for it all and kind of showed when even doing the warm up was a struggle.
I’ve got a flat 10k soon. I am 56, currently running about 55 miles a week. Recent 10k time was 39:11. I tend to run 7 days a week and although I do ‘easy’ runs I probably need a bit more recovery and don’t tend to prepare for races unless marathon distance. What would you recommend for the week before my 10k race so I have more chance of a PB?
I think generally for a "target" race getting to the line fresh and ready to race. I wasn't really targeting this one so had not really backed off the training much in the week and the relative warmth made it harder still. So practically reducing the volume and maybe a rest day if not the day before the race but say on the Friday before a Sunday race can work well.
Go on Sue! Have her more on the vids, Tim! She's a breath of fresh air
Thank you for your lovely words of encouragement ! …. Flattery will get you everywhere !

Haha love Sue's analysis of both your race and the grunting going on, absolute gold 😂 Good running there Tim, especially in the heat
Yeah always get a few good observations from Sue!
Love the commenting from Sue 🤟
Yeah it was good to get her "observations" !
Thank you Bo ! I am normally like Mrs Manwarring in Dads Army ( referred to but not actually performing in the script ! )
Sue is gold.
She is !

Thanks. Compared to this last week it wasn't "that warm" but then again I didn't try and race in it !
@@TimGrose Last week oh god lool was too much. Might sound stupid but I find 5k harder then 10k half marthon ect.

Very good Tim. That’s a great time for most people.
Thanks. Yeah it is all relative I guess. The best runners in my age group were doing 35 mins in this race so I kind of feel I should be nearer them.

Thanks. One of those days when knew it was going to be tough almost from the start. Got two more races this week so a chance indeed to bounce back.

I think Mrs.G should be your coach. Solid advice there.
She usually tells me to rest! Some days she probably has a point :)
"The grunting seems to increase with age...." 🤣😂 It will be very loud on Wednesday evening at Wimbledon.
Ha ha yes!
