I like the planner you've designed for 2024. When I was still working I did something similar with a Moleskine notebook and just used the extra pages for to-do lists and random notes. Your Field Notes planner is just what I need now that I'm retired.
I used to do a Moleskine Reporter. Did a single page in the front for each month. Then I would set up a page for each week. Worked pretty well as I had an overview, with room for details on th week page. I had some pages for finances and some in the back for reference. I don't know what I'm using this year. Planning when retired is a lot different.
Hey Louis, Thanks for another Notebook/Planner book for Men !! 1:24 ...I like the 1900's Notebook designs. 2:20 ...One issue, is the small writing estate space in these books. 8:12 ...The Field Notes 3.5" x 5.5" (8.9 cm x 13.9 cm) are the perfect size for a pocket notebook..my new favorites. I find the Field Notes Notebook is better paper, it doesn't bleed, ghost , or nib dent like Moleskine Cahier Pocket notebooks.
I used Jake Parker’s Planner this year and its quarterly focus view is a great resource to plan and reduce some anxiety regarding having too many things to work on
Just discovered and binged watched your videos, and I'm going to try the field notes. it make sense for me too to have smaller notebook. looking forward on how you've been using the 2024 notebook planner, if at all 😅
Lukas, the end of the year is upon us, it would be nice to see a follow up video on the planner and especially on your FN planner that you created for 2024
I have been able to buy calendar stickers, for each month of the year. They are perfect for using in small notebooks. I haven't checked online but I'm sure someone carries them.
Hi, there. I also like simple monthly planners. My favourite brand is Hightide, they make an A5 monthly planner with spare pages for writing. They also have a set of 3 small and thin notebooks and because the planner has a pvc cover I stick one of those notebooks at the end of the planner. I think I’ve achieved a perfect setup. Thanks for your videos 😊
I've used a week view Passion Planner the past two years, and while I enjoyed having the large size and being able to time block, I came to the realization that I wasn't using the planner to it's fullest potential. My schedule is pretty constant M-F because of being at work, so many weeks my planner looked exactly the same. I actually ended up filling out the planner at the beginning of the week, putting a few to do items on it, and then forgetting to check back in on it until I was ready to fill it out for the next week. Now I would always do the weekly reviews and month recaps and fill in stuff AFTER the fact, but I was not doing great at habit tracking or getting things done. This year I've switched to a Field Notes as my monthly/weekly planner. I use a two page span to draw out my month, then I use the next two page span to draw out my week, then the next two page span will be used for to do items for that week and a spot to write down any notes. Then each week I would repeat that. So basically a month should take up roughly 22 pages of a Field Notes, giving me 2 months per notebook. Best part about it all, is I carry it with me wherever I go and am constantly looking at it along side my other "thoughts and ideas" pocket notebook. Looking forward to seeing how it works for me this year.
So so good to have you back. Thank you for the video. For the last year and a bit I’ve also been carrying a Field Notes as my planner but with a different design to yours. Really hope it works for you
Of course. Each FN covers 4 months. My setup is similar to the Hobonichi weeks. I leave the first page blank (I’ve learnt from the Master 😊) The left hand page is a week to view which gives me 4 lines per day for appointments which works fine. The right hand page is blank and I use it for to-dos and notes. This leaves me a few pages at the end of the book for a future log - any dates I need to note which fall further ahead than the current book - and any other notes. I draw the lines in pencil on the left hand page to divide it up into days and write the dates in etc in a small margin. Whole thing takes about 45 mins for me to set up, which is a bit tedious but I actually don’t mind. So I have a practical diary - no journaling or memory keeping - which works perfectly for me, is cheap to produce, and fits into my trouser pocket 🎉
Many of us are saddled with digital work calendars in MS Exchange or other group/service offering, with little opportunity to truly customize them to our liking or to our actual needs. The best feature of them is reminders of recurring personal events that one shouldn't miss like birthdays and anniversaries. Even so, I find technology in this regard to be a double-edged sword. Looking forward to finding a better solution. Thanks for presenting these options.
Love your channel Lukas!!! I bought 18 new fields notes cause of you and have been thinking about what I’m gonna do for my planner next year…this video answered my question! I’m gonna copy yours… thanks so much uploading and the work you do… also please upload more, and it would be insane if you did a whole notebook collection video or even a field notes collection video. One for used and one for unused. That would be insaaaane 🤯 thanks again for everything you do…your obsession has leaked out and now I’m also obsessed!!! 🤩 hahaha
Thanks for your comment and thanks of course for watching! I am working on as much new content as possible :) I've also got a special 2-part video coming up that I'm sure you'll like :) Glad the obsession is spreading!
Thank you for q very insightful video. The Hobonichi Weeks (my choice) is much closer to what you need than the Cousin. The one Cousin I bought is now serving to record what inks I have in what pens, with small swatches.
We have the same Meisterstuck :) I got a Moleskine Pro Planner for work. It comes undated and I get some black separators and organize based on subject.
Before I watched your video, I was surprised that you didn’t give the Field Notes planner a chance. 😊 Now that I have seen your video, I realize that it would not work for your system. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and ideas about planners. Cheers!
Could you create an update video on how you got on with your 2024 field notes? Did you like it - enough to make a 2025 one? Did it wear in the way you hoped it would?
I've just found your channel and I think I've devoured 90% of your videos in the last two days 😂 I'm a keen journaller, but I don't carry a pocket notebook with me everywhere. You have convinced me to buy my first set of Field Notes and an EDC pen. I can't wait for them to arrive! One question; I have seen some nice looking leather cases for Field Notes and they have a holder for credit cards and a pen. I'm thinking a Field Notes in this holder with a couple of cards could replace my wallet. Do you prefer to keep your Field Notes unprotected because you like them to wear as you use them, or is there any other reason? I'm just curious, as you have such detail in your videos I'm sure you have a good reason for your choice ☺️🙏
Thanks for your comment! I like to keep the Field Notes separate because it does wear, and that's a big part of the enjoyment for me. I also like the look of the notebook by itself, and I feel a leather cover would hide that - although I've been tempted by the beautiful leather covers myself! I think it's a great option to get a cover with space for cards and a pen if you want to combine everything. It could be a good way to make sure you've always got your notebook with you. So glad my videos have made you want to try the pocket notebook life, thanks for watching!
Have you used the Traveler Company (Midori) Passport system? I have not but use a Smythson Panama $$$ with a Leuchtturm ball pen -. Drehgriffel Nr. 1, Red. It is the size of a Field Notes book but with 128 pages of patented watermarked paper which handles all inks perfectly. Bound in leather it lasts forever.
I have not tried the Traveler Co notebooks, although have always been tempted because they look so good! Never heard of the Smythson Panama so thanks very much for the tip and thanks for watching!
Monthly views and week at a glance is where I found my system, I use hobonichi weeks and on the pages with typical hobonichi content at the end I create my own layouts, for me is functionality over making it pretty there are things I record because I have a bad memory: events, health, last time I paid for a something specific - collections bujo style - is portable but not as field notes is 😅 but I like having the whole year view at my fingertips, for work nolty b6 notebook is a rare beauty... I love the size, the paper and the 3.5 mm grid so much real state! pages are numbered it's slim, it opens flat so elegant and not expensive. I use gantt charts and the Alastair method for tasks and project mgmt mostly, but 90% of what I do is digital, only need one book per year (176 pages)
Nice! Thanks for sharing. I had considered the hobonichi weeks as well, but I never was in time to get a plain black one. Definitely agree with function over pretty!
nice video! have you tried the hobonichi weeks? there's also the hobonichi a6 day free. just the month and memo pages. i'm considering it for next year!
My wife bought me a 2025 Muji planner from Japan, so it has all the Japanese national holidays on it - not useful but cool! It shows a weekly view of the days on the left of a double-page spread and then a lined page on the other. It also has extra pages of lined pages after the weekly views have finished for free notes. I think this format is a nice compromise and it will be a useful companion to my everyday Field Notes.
I have been able to buy calendar stickers, for each month of the year. They are perfect for using in small notebooks. I haven't checked online but I'm sure someone carries them.

You're a very good teacher in explaining simple, easy, practical methods of organizing thoughts without the stress. Excellent videos!
Thank you for watching!
Hey Lucas, I always look forward to your videos (especially all your field notes ideas!). Keep the content coming! appreciate all of them!
Thank you for your comment and thanks for watching! Will keep working on it!
This is the push I needed to stop printing inserts and return to simpler systems.
Simple is best! Thanks for watching!
Welcome back! I’ve missed your videos.
Thank you!

Agreed on all counts! Thanks for watching!
Thankyou, this video helped. I write a lot in my book. Gets me through about 20 days. Maybe I need to start using a bigger one also. Have a good day.
Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching!
I used Jake Parker’s Planner this year and its quarterly focus view is a great resource to plan and reduce some anxiety regarding having too many things to work on
Just looked this up - thanks for telling me about it, great setup!

Thank you for watching! I have a video planned in 2025 going over exactly that topic, stay tuned!
Came across your page and love the way you inform and present all this stationary. Glad I found your page. Cheers.
Thanks so much, I’m glad you are enjoying it!
There's something about used and filled up field notes , it's just beautiful
I couldn’t agree more. Thanks for watching!
Man I really love this whole year month view field notes. (That’s my prefer calendar set up). Thank you for this. Great video!
Thank you for watching!
Great job!

Pocket notebook to the rescue! Just the fact you can carry it around with you makes sure it gets used so much more. Thanks for sharing!
So so good to have you back. Thank you for the video. For the last year and a bit I’ve also been carrying a Field Notes as my planner but with a different design to yours. Really hope it works for you

🙏 love this! With the added benefit that you get to change the notebook 3 times a year. I’ll have to try it out. Thanks for sharing!

Can't ever get away from MS calendars at work, but there's still a balance that can be found! Thanks for watching.
I’d be interested in seeing a year-long recap of how this calendar layout worked for you in 2024.
I will do that!
I got that Standard Memorandum! Was a cool notebook
It was!

Great video. I do appreciate the undated versions so I don't feel like I'm wasting empty space on pages.

Other than numbering each notebook, how do you track or catalog months, or years? Enjoyed this video on planning.
It starts and ends with the numbering, that’s all I do! Thanks for watching!
where can i get the Almdudler notebook?
That is just a Field Notes that I've glued an Almdudler bottle label onto :)
Hi - The DIY Field Notes diary looks like the Midori/Travelers Company “Passport size” “Monthly” dated diary insert?
Thanks! I’m not familiar with the Traveler’s Co inserts, it’s a good tip!
