Richard's face when Trix says her health is failing ; that's the face of a devoted son: the mix of fear and concern in his voice:the cause his father's death was never esbilshed;but between this and the closeness between them it must have been something tragic
I absolutely love Emily in this scene but you know what really bugs me? Why in Earth does Richard let his mother speak to his wife like she does? Why does he let her be so passive aggressive and condescending? That is so disrespectful and if my husband just sat back or laughed it off while his mom treated me like that we wouldn't be married much longer
If you think about it. he chose Emily to marry, I'm positive that his mother made it clear that she didn't approved of that at the time and he did it anyway. So he put his foot down then, be it verbally or just by going through with the marriage so he feels like it's been made clear that Emily had the victory, and the mom can really only make her snide little petty comments seeing as deep down she knows she has lost. It's too bad a lot of daughters in law don't get the power they actually have :)
@lisquidsnake There is payoff if you know the characters and the nature of the relationship between Lorelai and Emily. It is one of the few areas that Lorelai empathizes with her mother, ironically (not sure if I'm using the word correctly) it's a "mother"-daughter dysfunction she relates to. In the same way the expression was of understated approval in "Babe", Lorelai is emphasizing the understatement by using the same line. It's really brilliant writing.
Love how Emily keeps on digging so much that Lorelai has to tell her to stop before becoming a bit of a pig dictator. I think Emily appreciated Lorelai taking on a much smaller role.
Why is the course timed to 12 minutes?!!! What if you talked excessively or everyone was asking you questions during that course and you didn’t get to eat during that 12 minutes?
I love how devious Emily is. She can turn eating into revenge.
emily was a lot like lorelai in this scene lol
That was the point haha Lorelai told her how to handle it. So she gives in and acts like that.
Probably because she was following Lorelai's advice?
amazing how they took the mother(in law)-daughter-issues of this show on another level with this scene.
Intentional.

@@jiyabedi1731 Full freakin' circle
@@jiyabedi1731 Dean wasn't approved either
He is like that when Emily goes off on Lorelai too.
A big hint into Melissa’s gift for physical comedy.
Uggh, I want the scene before this.. where Lorelai tells Emily how to survive annoying mothers :P
Sookie’s explanation always makes me laugh
