The best PSB song to date (2017) just in case! This song makes me so emotional! It reminds me of my childhood, when I could walk, run, play football and everything was great, superb, it was a altogether nicer place. The computer was a BBC micro at school and a mobile was in a big red box with a illuminated Telephone sign! I miss those days and did not realise just how precious the times were, if only I could have that time again, but there are so many that would agree!
I'm on the backbone of all comment left. Its 2023 and yeah its difficult for me to argue. Robbie Williams once was a part of PSB documentary where the discussion was The Behaviour Album. I can't quote him but he expressed feeling that The Pet Shops Boys were in the vintage wine stage of music making and he's right to an extent. Songs like To Face The Truth and October Symphony are undeniable masterpieces in their own right but Kings Cross taps into a gorgeous haunting sorrow and yeah I'll jump on the Train with you guys on this one. I found guys earlier tonight a 1984 version of One More Chance try to even get what I said there🤦♂Disco came out in 1986 and the release of Actually was 1987 and Please also came out in 1986 that was technically their first album, but 2 full years before please and disco low and behold One More Chance off the 87 album was made in 1984. And here my dear fellas is the link .. ua-cam.com/video/kRpukbmkhYw/v-deo.html
I have been to London quite a few times. And always when I am at Kings Cross I have this wonderful song in my ears. The PSB are with me now nearly my whole life. And I am 50 now...❤❤
This is the version I saw on MTV's Most Wanted some time in the 90s, had no idea where it came from because the only video I had known was a scene from the 1988 movie. Apparently it's here since 2009 but it took me 15 years to find it!
Always played this song as the last track driving back from Germany to see my girlfriend now wife of 31years.....it just does it for me everytime ..brilliant
Another classic from the Pet Shop Boys. Should have been a single imo. It's from their 'Actually' album, which is from 1987 .....not 1989. Writing this in 2024.......and you realise just how good pop music from the 1980's was, and still is. No other decade beats the 80's for great pop. This song really sticks in the mind. What a melody.
A hauntingly magnificent song, one of the Pet Shop Boys best. Not a lot of people realised that the autumn this song was ro be released, there was a horrific fire at Kings Cross Station that November. 31 people died and hundreds were injured terribly. If you've ever seen the original video, it featured a burning man on his way to Kings Cross. Out of respect for the families, Neil and Chris did not release the video until many, many years later. They've always been good lads, doing the decent thing.
@@DuyPham-tp7tu on the album, yes, but when it came time to release the single, they held of because of the accident. They didn't want to seem callous.
@@tonyjones1560 it is a beautiful song. One of my favourite PSB songs. You should read up on the 1987 King's Cross fire. It is absolutely horrific! One of the many reasons I'm glad that smoking is banned in public places.(yes, the fire was started by a smoker.)
While the song itself was released before the incident, the 'original' video is a scene from a movie released in 1988. I wonder if the scene was shot after the incident and what they were thinking connecting the visuals of a burning man to this particular song...
Fantastic to see this again - Saw it on the the '89 tour they did - the whole crowd simultaneously cheered at 2:04 when Chris walks through Kings Cross... RIP Derek Jarman.
Derek Jarman’s beautiful film contains multiple clues as to the meaning of this song - the canal, the gas tanks, the bullring in KX tube station, the station forecourt…
Two things that spring to mind if anyone is so fussed… At 0:34…the Class 317 Electric Train that appears was still in revenue earning service on the MainLine in Summer 2022 just before being retired from frontline service. Unit 317343…one of the last to go! Secondly…the background music has a Sonic Game vibe about it…it reminds me somewhat of Sonic 3’s Ice Cap Zone. Oh…and I cannot remember, someone told me Monday…or did they tell me Saturday?
What this song is about? it is not about Kings Cross fire. I think it's a social commentary on low life or economical depression. Chris Lowe in the video symbolizing a "lost man" - an unemployed or tramp, coming to London in hope for better life
The fire happened a significant time after the album was released, there is no connection Young people coming from poverty and unemployment in the North East headed to London Kings Cross is the station they arrived at The tramps, homeless, hanging round begging were a reminder that you might not make it and could end up like then, worse than you had it The Streets Paved With Gold myth about London goes back to Dick Whittigton This song is a stark welcome to reality to those arriving
God made a man perfect! Jesus! It made perfect athletes, Pele in football and Ayrton Senna in Formula-1! Did Neil and Chris meet and create the perfect band! The Pet Shop Boys! And they created the perfect song, by God! Hors Concours a song! She is KING'S CROSS!! Indeed, King's Cross is not just a song, he is a true anthem! A hymn of GOD!!
This will be the main theme song of a film coming up in a few years, which hopefully will encompass all the feelings everyone is sharing here when they listen to it
Hello Damnnat1onArmy. I'm glad my words manisfestrem what my soul feels, and I'm even happier that you have seen it through my message. Thank you. I love King's Cross as if it were mine, as part of me! A big hug
I never knew until tonight (after watching the 'Pandemonium' live DVD) that "King's Cross" had a video directed by Derek Jarman. Why was this never released? (It wasn't to my knowledge, anyway.) Brilliant filmmaking. Actually, I just did some research and discovered it was released on the 'Projections' tape. Wish that would come out on DVD (plus It Couldn't Happen Here, Closer to Heaven, Battleship Potemkin with their score, and other PSB videography).

This reminds me of a time when I was at a train station in London. Cricklewood Thameslink I think
I lived in London 1992 to 1996 used to connect loads at Kings cross onto the Northern Line having come up from Green park on the Victoria Line
