I’ve seen them drop this early many times before. It is usually stress related, or just an early rut. But I doubt he was wounded. Probably just stressed from a lack of food and some really cold weather last few weeks (like near zero). Anyways thanks for watching!
Getting hung up on old, left behind, fishing line is one of my pet peeves too. I find those lines everywhere. Anyway, love the Elf outfit and the Fish-Mas episodes!!!
I get super aggravated when people break line and leave it. Sometimes half of my adventure is cleaning up line. I also do mainly spinners and pinns minnows. If I fly its home territory.
When I started out my line was ending up 20' up in tree branches above the river. I'm not climbing trees to retrieve line, I don't lose it like that anymore but ya be realistic.
I lost a big trout in fort Ashby reservoir this year because of someone who had cut their line at the reel instead of pulling and snapping it off. The line and lure was in a tree branch dangling all the way down to the water and obviously below water as well. When I was fighting the fish it got tangled in that line and the person must have been using 10 plus pound test . Caused my line to break and the fish to have to swim around with a lure and line hanging out of its mouth. Man I can’t even begin to describe how heated I was after that. 20 plus inch fish completely ruined by some absolute “Blank” of a human being. After losing it knowing how that fish had to suffer made me the most angry tbh ! Fish was either lassoed to the other line off my own line to end of lure or my lure and part of the line was dangling out its mouth until it succumbed from starvation and stress!
@@ScootLogixI hope you at least pulled to break it off because this same situation caused me to lose a huge trout in a lake . Because someone instead of breaking it off just cut it way far away from the tree so the line dangled all the way down from the branch into the water .
Awesome video, you never fail to provide the best fly fishing videos! I went to southish Tennessee yesterday and caught a 17inch brown, which was my PB!!! I will find that 20 plus one day!!!
That’s an absolute stud at the end. I’m looking forward to seeing what you wear for Valentine’s Day there Cupid! 💘 😅 j/k of course. Merry Merry Fishmas to you!
Nothing like a gorgeous 12" Native Brookie to change the attitude of a grumpy complaining elf into a beaming talkative fish catching green colored elf ! Merry Christmas and yah did good on your new pole and reel ... mighty purdy looking rig !
I sincerely believe that this Elf costume could become a Christmas bestseller (if promoted rightly). As a counterpart an Ork costume could be designed. 🙃
Merry Christmas First trout I ever caught when I was about eight was a Brook trout in a tiny creek. About 65 years ago. Now I’m getting off topic. I like to fish for steelhead. And there are no streamer fishing, steelhead videos, other than spay fishing. I would love to see a steelhead video using streamers with your style of fishing. I know you’re a brown trout guy. But if you’re fishing for steelhead , your average fish is 20 inches you’re looking for something 30 inches or better. Lots of fun. Have a great holiday season merry Christmas.😊
I 100% plan on doing that in the new year! And I can't wait to try it out. I'll definitely be using the same type of style I use to fish for trout in my area so we'll see what happens. Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas!
Ive personally made it my mission to recover as many of my snags as possible, there are some that are nearly impossible since id have to swim for it, or totally impossible like launched into a tree after a hookset. But i know ive gotten tangled into messes of line on some very popular streams, and now i typically look at low hanging limbs prior to casting to see if this is something that is common for people to get snagged in. Ive also considered building a sectional arm with a hook on it and in the summer visit these places and reclaim flys and lures in the trees.
I like most of the streamers they have, and I’m always messing around with new ones. But that curly tailed streamer is unique and cool, especially on what that gets mostly fly fished
Buddy the Elf, tired of the toy-making grind, swapped his hammer for a fly rod and wandered south from the North Pole. Using gum drops for flies he cast Christmas spirit to all the good fishes in the stream.
So I always do good going for natives in a small stream, however this is my first time trying in the winter and the struggle is real. What’s a top nymph you recommend? And do you like using indicators? PS: last video’s outfit is still the best so far lol
I personally use a lot of green for caddis larvae or cases caddis type things. That or a big / bright fly. Just something they can see and is worth their time. At least for small stream freestone brook trout
Hey there, just discovered your channel and I love your simplistic vids! Quick question, how much do you put between your nymphs and what line do you use?
Depends on how big the water is! But typically a foot to 18 inches, and I use cortland line. As far as size goes that varies A LOT. Glad you're enjoying the simple vids!
2:45 Yeah dude it’s like least they could do is pull to break off so it’s not 10-15 ft of line caught dangling in the hole huh let alone cleaning it up . Like be a normal human and pull and break off
I can see the 'slowness' in the action of the bamboo rod when you cast. The whole rod bends down to the butt, even on short casts. Perfect for throwing small dries. Not so great for tight line nymphing.

Yep that would drive me insane too. We just had something similar happen in Tennessee in one of my last videos. It’s become one of my biggest pet peeves
That bamboo rod is sweet. Cool of the guy to send you one.
I agree! Couldn’t be more grateful. Thanks for watching!
Nice rod for sure. Also a nice shed. However, it’s a bit early. Hope he’s not wounded and dropped from stress. Thanks for taking us along

Don’t tell my wife that’s 8”
😂😂😂😂
That last fish was a king, the colors were so vibrant. Great catch. Merry Fishmas bud!
Yes, a blessing. That last brookie was certainly worth the price of admission. Merry Christmas.
No doubt! Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas
Loving this Fishmas series, John. Thanks so much for taking us along!
Heck yeah glad you're enjoying it!
Fishmas is my favorite! Fishmas and some brookies. Please do it again next year
I’ve already thought about next year’s videos!! It’ll definitely happen again. Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed
My #1 pet peeve as well, picking up other fishermen’s trash/getting caught on their line
Shots of you traversing the banks dressed like an elf reminds me so much of Buddy’s journey from the North Pole to NYC
HAHA🤣 if I had planned this more I would’ve done some skits like buddy the elf
Ok um Afternoon 😄🧲🏴🤠🎣 the fishing 🎣🎣🐟👀
Great video! I fish in western NC near Robbinsville. I'm 71 in a few days and don't do well wading anymore. Your videos are a blessing.
Glad you like the videos and thanks for the kind words. I've got another one coming out today!
Getting hung up on old, left behind, fishing line is one of my pet peeves too. I find those lines everywhere. Anyway, love the Elf outfit and the Fish-Mas episodes!!!
It’s so annoying! Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed my elf costume!😄
The Lord does create some gorgeous fish. For that tiny creek that is a king for sure! God bless brother, and merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you too! And thanks for watching

Fishmas is amazing! Been loving these videos!
Heck yeah!! Glad you’re enjoying them
Loving the fishmas videos! Great work
Glad you’re enjoying them! Thank you
Merry Fishmas! What a trout in that last section.
Thank you!
Another great fishmas video, Merry Christmas again to you and Andrew
Merry Christmas! Thanks for watching

One angry elf 😂
Great video matey! Stunning fish!👍
Thank you!
Those brookies clearly liked your elf outfit. Good episode! Hope you didn’t get too soaked. Merry Fish-Mas!
That’s what I’m saying! Thanks for watching and merry fishmas!
Thank you for the 4K. It makes a big difference.
Glad you enjoyed it! It takes a lot more time to deal with it but I think it’s worth it
As always another great video. Thank you Jon,!
Glad you enjoyed it!

I’m a spin fisherman but I always pick up my broken off bits of line and try and keep the creeks clean
Heck yeah! As everyone should. Thanks for watching and picking up trash!
Merry Christmas

Vermont posts on their site areas they stock, and that's where I find lots of garbage left behind. (Sad) Awesome Fly Rod 👍🎣
That rod is beautiful! I picked up an antique bamboo rod this summer, but I'm scared to try it out. Good going man
Thank you! I love the rod and can’t wait to use it more this upcoming year… but yeah it’s tough because I really don’t want to break it…

Is the season open in December?
How did you like the fly rod
I loved it!
@hardmanfishing thank you for all of your videos and your hard work that you put into it
Very nice rod.
What a great Elf costume! I was wondering if you wear these costumes in public? Great video series and I love those creeks.
I mean I’m fishing on public land 😂 and I may go through a drive through or something. But that’s it
The secret of bamboo is that it never dies………
Wow first time, first comment.
Heck yeah!
How long is that rod?
Great work! I noticed a clip on your net that you use to attach it to your waist. What clip do you use and do you recommend it?
Great video! I was wondering what your favorite Redd's streamers are. Fishmas is awesome!
I like most of the streamers they have, and I’m always messing around with new ones. But that curly tailed streamer is unique and cool, especially on what that gets mostly fly fished
@@hardmanfishing Thanks so much!

Loved this comment!! Haha thanks for watching!
I think the elf costume or equivalent should be mandatory for fishing from Dec 1 - 25. Happy Fishmas! 🐟🎅
I like it!! Would be a lot funnier running into people LOL
what state is this?

Have you ever fished for grayling? its my fav fish and i would love to see a video like that
Rainbow here in the Wedt won't bite if they can see you like this. I have to crawl up to the hole.
Liking the Fishmas costumes! Haha! Great content.
What sort of socks are you wearing for winter wading? Heated? Wool?
Nope, just regular ole socks. My feet don’t get cold honestly, at least not in waders
@hardmanfishing 😯🤯

How bout wearing a Santa suit fishing I think it would be hilarious 😂😂
I have one but I opted for a different character for the next video 😂

That’s what I’m saying! It’s ridiculous. And the creek isn’t large, you can hop across it. There’s not really an excuse
I can see the 'slowness' in the action of the bamboo rod when you cast. The whole rod bends down to the butt, even on short casts. Perfect for throwing small dries. Not so great for tight line nymphing.
Yep 100%! I realized that but was committed to the video idea😂
@hardmanfishing I would LOVE to own a fine split cane rod....wonder if I can 'sell' it to the wife....!
Hail Hail the Celtic and the Celtic women are well Hail Hail 🫶🇮🇳🥳🏆🙌🙌👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏😁👍👌
try to catch a fish on a red and green Christmas colored streamer!!
Eliteist much??

I hope you get one too!!
Better be careful getting too close to most spin fishers dressed like that
Wow,that elf is pissed off, right out the gate.
