Buck Showalter could do no wrong in my eyes - until Game 5 vs Seattle in 1995 when David Cone had thrown over 130 pitches, was obviously spent and couldn't throw strikes anymore, yet Buck inexplicably kept him in the game, handing the game and series to Seattle for no reason. He threw that series away. I was glad they canned him.
Sam Militello, number one prospect in baseball. Started off brilliantly and then hurt his arm, could never find the strike zone again. What a bummer that was, and Brien Taylor as well.
93 season was the year they finally started to turn things around after being terrible for four previous seasons. Missed out on Bonds and Maddux in FA but instead signed Boggs and Jimmy Key and traded for Paul O'Neil. This was really the turning point. I started watching Yankees games as a kid from the 1989 season, so 1993 season was really exciting for me as this was their first winning season as a Yankee fan.
I started watching the Yankees in 1978. What an incredible year to become a Yankee fan. I went to Game 5 of the World Series. The one-game playoff vs Boston was on Yom Kippur and we were driving to my grandparents' house with the game on the radio when Bucky Dent hit his home run...
41:32- "He [Derek Jeter] really has the chance to be above average Major Leaguer in all tools." Boy, was Jeter ever above average in all tools throughout his career.

When I think about the 93 Yankees, The Boss coming back from suspension and Jim Abbott's no hitter comes to mind.
Worked at the Stadium from 92 - 94. Birns security.

Where the revival began. Also if only Taylor hadn't gotten into that fight...
He could have been the left handed Dwight Gooden.
@@Joseph-lz5er wasnt it some bar fight ?
But Buck Showalter was let go from the Yankees after their 1995 ALCS loss to the Seattle Mariners.
"...Buck...a real rising star among managers..." you hear that and keep your bags packed.
Odd team...odd production.
Awful September.
1993 Yankees when things were running around won 88 games won’t 3 years later 1996
