I was 12 and I remeber this and This Week In Baseball every Saturday morning. I dont feel bad for kids. I feel bad for us. they have the world at their fingertips now! ha ha
It's pretty incredible to look back and see how Oakland assembled a team with a bunch of over-the-hill pitchers, transformed them into all-star-level pitchers, and built the best team in baseball for the next 3 seasons. Major credit to Tony La Russa and Dave Duncan.
The music that's used beginning at the 22:44 mark is "Money 59" by John Devereaux and Andy Clark. In 1988, ABC Sports used "Money 59" in its opening for their Monday Night Baseball telecasts.
I was ten in 88. I remember for the Los Angeles area it was a big sports scene with the Lakers defending their title and then the Dodgers, a clear under dog against the Mets and A's, prevailing.
Fans could hardly wait for 1989. #1 Draft Pick Ken Griffey Jr.'s debut season & Upper Deck, which ushered in the modern era of sports cards, with Jr. its leadoff.
The worst ever actually. That team had Cal Ripken, Eddie Murray, and Fred Lynn and still went 0-21. They were bad, no question. But 0-21? The chance of a team with a .355 winning percentage (their final mark) losing their first 21 is about 1 out of 10,000. Some of it was just a sad fluke. I know because I watched the whole depressing thing.
Amen - The reigning MVP, the rookie of the year AND the game's most dominate closer. Did anyone ever break McGwire's rookie record of 49 bombs in 87' ?
Especially in 1988, which is now the Hall of Fame nub as today's game committee this is also the the rise of some serious outcomes. The birth of the steroid era
Jealous of the bash brothers?? 😁 And in fact they did win, the very next year 1989 champs - reclaiming the series they were favorited to win 4-1 in 1988.
I love this, I was 14 in 88. Plus, Mel Allen, I feel bad kids today don't have the old school broadcasting.

I have been binge watching these videos for days now. Man I loved the 1980's. Good baseball and colorful characters.
Mel Allens voice brings back Soo much nostalgia.
I miss these so much :(

same
had this video over 20 years. Greatest postseason ever. GO DODGERS!
Mets fan different reaction still great time for baseball
I’m grateful to live in a time with expanded playoffs, how many good team was out in that season.

The "Baseball in the 80s" video is AMAZING.
The year I became a baseball fan.
This is so awesome

Dumb
@@edreed5571 Clearly you weren't paying attention back in 1989. A key year in the sports card industry. How soon we forget.
R.I.P.: Tommy Lasorda 😢
Only One Word can sum up The 1988 Baseball Season:
IMPOSSIBLE!
38:04 1988 was the year of the no hitters and perfect games broken up in the 9th inning
There were more Balks called in 1988 than any other Baseball Season!
Barry Bonilla...classic
27:24 Jose with the look that only a mother would love
@10:52
Mel. Who is Barry Bonilla? 😂
Sounds like an all-star to me because Mel said so
Lmao. I thought I was the only one who heard that
I came here to see if anyone else wrote that. A Ralph Kiner type flub
IMO, funniest part of the whole damn video 😂
We have Bobby and Barry Bonds. Why can’t we have Bobby and Barry Bonilla?
This is such a well done video
28:21 Mel Allen is sitting at the right hand of the baseball lord and for good reason
👍👍👍👍
4:44 as bob uecker once said "that's 1 thing I didn't want to be an MVP just for moments like that"
I'll be posting The Year In Baseball 1986 soon!!
Chili Davis now the batting coach of the mets.
Frank Viola was such a badass during this time period.
2:07 "Dodger Stadium" sure looks a lot like the Oakland Coliseum.
How so?
10:52 Barry Bonilla?
6:10 how bad is Baltimore's start to the 1988 season

Joe Szymanski Their pitching was dog shit.
5:52 the 1st managerial casualty of '88
StFidjnr I think Atlanta’s Chuck Tanner was 2nd one on May 22, 1988
@@eltravo2112 5:15 at least Chuck tanner was lucky to last the 1st month of the 1988 baseball season
4:59 another CG job for bulldog hershiser himself
In other news, Darryl strawberry led the majors in cocaine consumption in 1988....
1980's, one of the Decades that didn't produce a 50 Homer guy. With the exception of Mark McGwire who held a rookie record 49 in 1987
even though they lost the world series to the dodgers, I believe the "88 A's were possibly the most fun team ever to watch.
Amen - The reigning MVP, the rookie of the year AND the game's most dominate closer. Did anyone ever break McGwire's rookie record of 49 bombs in 87' ?
28:55 this prove that Mel allen's baseball narrative is gospel
3:29 since the twins won the 1987 world series the MLB have been thru the winter and have a crackdown on balk
10:52...." Barry Bonilla"..... lol
Barry Bonilla?
In a year that was so Improbable, THE IMPOSSIBLE HAS HAPPENED!
7:17 the duck egg has broken
8:02 Pete just lost 50K.
And a month holiday to boot
My god I HAD SEEN THE BEST PITCHERS IN baseball,l FERNANDO, OREL AND KERSHAW
Kershaw was born in 1988
Im Chili Davis, I WILL NEVER RETIRE!!! LOL
51:26 watch this one.
1988: The Year of the Balk.
6:38 I bet he watched T.W.I.B
Notice in 1988, you see mostly Caucasian & Black Players and rarely see Latin Players??
I smashed my game so many times that the red lights are sunk below the board. Game is such bullshit.
Feel like this was the last era of real baseball. Home runs, situational pitching, and shifts have killed the game. Too long and too one dimensional.
Then get rid of home runs, OK??
@@ckendall67 of course not. Bring back base hitting though.
5:25 oilers over the falcons
Let's go mets
Barry Bonilla…
Especially in 1988, which is now the Hall of Fame nub as today's game committee this is also the the rise of some serious outcomes. The birth of the steroid era
I gotta remember Dave Conception the next time I get asked about crazy overrated sports figures. He might have the title.
If I misspelled it, deal with it.
WS 1988 in a nutshell: Cheaters (Canseco, McGwire) never win
Jealous of the bash brothers?? 😁 And in fact they did win, the very next year 1989 champs - reclaiming the series they were favorited to win 4-1 in 1988.
But they won the World Series in 1989 😆
A's were robbed!!!
Evidence please
@@nala3038 Well sure, they lost 😋😋. And don't get me started on the absurd homerun from a guy who could hardly walk. Oh the pain....
