It's nice to be able to hear someone like Kirkhope talk more in depth about composing, it's not often you see much beyond surface level in composer interviews.
Just found this via Grant sharing it on socials and it's excellent! Looking forward to digging through more of your interviews, keep doing the good work
This was super cool. Great questions that opened him up to expose "rare" (lol) bits of info. Didn't know joining rare was one of his one of his first career jumps while just playing in bands.
Very legendary composer, who has produced some of my favorite video game tracks of all time. It's a bit of a shame to hear that he's so intent on putting his talent toward film instead of just focusing on games. The mainstream film industry is a really ugly place and the hiring is all about nepotism. Just my personal take, but Kirkhope's best blows any film composer out of the water.
Hey Matt! I was thinking of maybe featuring a clip from this podcast in an upcoming music theory video, but I can't find the clip I was looking for. You were talking with someone about key changes and how when you change key in section B and then the art of doing some fancy tricky maneuver to get back to the original key when the song loops.... If that rings a bell, maybe you recall the episode it was from?
@@composercode Haha no worries! Yeah it was a while ago I listened to it and I heard a bunch of episodes so I can't really recall specific details but, now I have a reason to re-listen to a bunch of episodes! Thanks for getting back to me! Great podcast...is it on hiatus or?
@@AlexYardZone Yessss I suppose so lol (said with shame). Life got busy, but there are definitely composers I want to talk to that will probably inspire me to record a few more episodes :) I love your content, btw!
Awesome interview. It would be awesome if you were to get Chris Tilton on someday. Fantastic orchestral composer who wrote the music for Mercenaries 1 and 2, Assassins creed Unity, Sim City, The Incredibles video game (adapted themes from the movie) 1 and 2, and more

Why doesn't this guy have more views? This is crazy.
I came here expecting amazing backstage stories from Grant...
*I was not disappointed*
He brought it.
Thank you :) That was such a heartfelt interview, I smiled the whole time.
Grant Kirkhope for the -president- phantasy film composer!
I'm so glad you liked it!!
Grant's music is perfect for animated shows and films.
Great interview! He's such a lovely bloke
Yes, he is!

Thank you, I hope the talks are helpful for you! :)
To think he was working on Banjo music around the time of this interview.
This chap is brilliant. I don’t think he quite realises how good he is. I like his straight laced style :)

Hey dude, I’m honored. I honestly don’t remember!! 😭 I’m sorry. Do you remember anything else about the guest that may narrow it down?

@@composercode thank you Matt!
And yeah, I'll be on the lookout for future episodes! Even if you did just a couple per year or something
@@composercode omg turns out it was in this Grant Kirkhope video lol. Good thing you have those episode descriptions on the RSS!

Hey, thanks for the tip! I will look him up. And glad you enjoyed the interview!
Very nice interview, and some useful insights - and it's always a plus to hear another former Yorkshire-dweller!
